3ddave, We(I) feel your pain. Perhaps it will help to treat V2 as a lower-res stand-in for V3 or a different character altogether. (This is easy as their bodies don't ressemble each other too much.) But it does bite to lose all of V2 glorious wardrobe...alas! Progress doesn't always move forward. --lb
Not even close to dead... I own V3 and readilly admit she's more realistic and an excellent improvement on V2, but one V3 is about all my old PC can handle, if I want a second character, or more than rudimentary scenery etc., I'm forced to resort to V2 and Mike, (or for a more crowded scene, Dork and Posette - which are also still very usable with the right textures). I think V2 will still be in heavy use for awhile... at least until a good many of us can afford to upgrade our machines. :)
I use Vicky 2 for the same reason as Gort. I don't think she's dead at all. I don't see any reason to discard her at this point. I haven't been able to do anything with the clothes using Tailor or any of the other stuff, but I'm not going to dump my collection just because someone new is in town. Look at it this way, I doubt if anyone got rid of V3 just because Koshini arrived on the scene. You can have them all, in my mind, if you have storage space and money enough.
I can certainly see why Daz doesn't want to put out any new Vicky 2 stuff, the quicker she dies the quicker they can get us to buy all the same stuff for Vicky 3. But I still find it hard to fathom why merchants here or in other sites would only put out an outfit for Vicky 3 (or Vicky 2 for that matter) when making versions for both isn't that hard and would only make them more money with minimal effort. Why limit your market if you don't have to like Daz? Just seems stupid to me.
well in response to some; I'll certainly still use V2 (especially as she's all the Vicky I have) but what I meant to say which I didn't fully was that there seems to be no new "stuff" for V2; and/or no V2 versions of things made for V3. For example, the lovely Morphing Fantasy Dress and all it's nice add-on products would be great to have - but it's just for V3. Or the nice Collar and the Dazzle hair and on and on. (I know, poor me... ) And I know I could use some of the V3 items with minor tweaking (like the hair for instance), I'm just a little lamentful that everything's all things V3 now... even Mike suffers because the male side of things are also V3 these days... sigh...
Nearly everything we make for V3 gets made for V2 as well and visa versa, the only time it doesn't is when a body morph makes it tricky to refit, as for mike hes far from dead we put up 3 things for him in the last 12 days and about to add another any time now, your just not looking hard enough :o).......Steve
I don't think the male side of V3 has much at all. If it wasn't for PoserWorld, he'd be stuck in dresses pretending to be robes, leggings, and body stockings, which is not something I see a lot in my world. I think Daz has an emphasis on sci fi and fantasy with a little fetish thrown in for good measure, but for a well rounded waredrobe, I depend on Steve and outside sources. I prefer Vicky 2 for ease of use and low memory demands. I don't know what I'll do when Mike 3 comes out...but if he doesn't come with some real life clothes, I may just skip past him. I don't care if I never see another body glove (yes, that's just me, I know...everyone else loves the things).
Now that I'm back to doing multiperson renders, V2 is not only not dead, she's centerstage. I have a high-end computer--2.4G 2gmemory. I also have Poser 5. Can't use three V3's in a scene, heck can't use 2 millenium figs in a scene if they are completely togged up-- have to add the rest in low res. Rdna is like PoserWorld, very even handed in clothes for both V2 and V3. Emily
She's only dead if you deem her dead! Vicky and the stuff you bought are on your harddrive.....use them until you're tired of them. I think a lot of people are still using Posette! :) Personally, I'm not that big a fan of V3, so I pretty much only use V2. Plus I love Roxanne and all of her interesting charactization possibilities.....so there you go! :)
dialyn: It is "definitely" not just you! :) And Queri, I find myself in the same boat. I have only a 1.7 ghz PIV with 512 mb ram, so you know I'm not doing a lot of V3 stuff! Plus I only have P5 to boot! Makes me really appreciate Vue d'Esprit and Byrce which you can load with tons of stuff and it doesn't even "grunt"! :) Poser was definitely not designed for creating "epic images" :) If DAZ can accomplish nothing else with DAZ studio but making it possible to do multi-characters and scenes without blowing a memory gasket, it will have accomplished a lot.
v2 is soooooo not dead lol I have v3 and the morphing dress etc....{love them but still working on them} but the thing is by the time my puter gets to rendering v3 and clothing {do NOT mention a scene just the figure} I have to restarts then start the prossess again just to get a render that I can work with.{it just takes too much time out of the day to keep doing that for a really complicated scene... apiece I did spring friends....took me aweek or more just because it kept crashing my puter} with v2 it is allot easier...she is easier for me to "mold" { I guess because I am use to her} and she takes less from my old war horse of a puter. as for the v2 v3 thing with cloths...I actually use alot of v2 things for v3 just tweek them out.

I don't think she's dead at all.....DAZ seems to be catering to V3 while the other Stores seem to be catering more to V2 still, with the exception of PW. Dialyn, you're definitely not alone, but I must confess, there are a few times I've used the body suit when I was in a hurry so I wouldn't have to mess with getting clothes to fit to my pose.
Hi Apart from the lores versions of V1 and the lores mike/steph freebee from last year V3 (getting glowers from Dork and Posey) is the only mil human I have. can't afford v2 or mike2 . Anyway I may be wrong but doesn't V3 come with a version that can wear v2 clothes? now I have a question anyone tried V3 with the mil dragon? Dave
It depends on what you do with poser.I dont do extreme close ups so I don't thing I need V3. Now about the clothes,if you 'play' with all the clothes you have you can create so many compinations.Play with textures, treansparencies , adding new material zones to the object. I thing V2 has everything anyone wants I dont see much differense in V3 stuff... Now a V2 with V3 UV mapping yes that would be good... And for the bending I thing that postwork takes less time then loading huge V3 just to have perfect knees... However for someone that looks for extreme realilism I thing that V3 is the best model till now. I don't have Dina but I thing she is very realistic too... And even Judy looks realy nice to me. But my real love this time is Natalia totaly different and still very easy to use...
An interesting thread. When Vicky was released, the demand for P4 Female practically died. Not, with V3, the demand for V2 stuff has died. Look in the Marketplace... almost every new item is for V3 (or Koshini). And the stuff that's made for only V2 is either on sale or not a "best seller". Will this happen again when V4 comes out in 2 years? Of course it will. And we'll be forced to trash our V3 stuff and buy all-new V4 stuff. So, then, is DAZ in the business of making their own models obsolete? Or do they have the same mentality of computer makers: dump your model every 2 years for the next better thing... which requires you to purchase all-new peripherals to work with it (can anyone say "Windows XP"?).
Oh, Vic 2 isn't dead. A little bruised and battered maybe, but surely not dead. Daz models are all the rage and the latest, greatest one is always going to get the bulk of the attention. Merchants are concentrating on V3 now because, well, she needs a wardrobe now - Vic 2's is already quite extensive. When Mike 3 is released, he'll be all the rage for awhile as well. If I could get her into a P4 texture, I'd probably use the P2 female on occasion as a background figure too. They're all good. As you note, ditching V2 would result in quite a financial hit (sort of settlement-wise so to speak) and then there's the kids to think of. Just put V3 up in a nice apartment somewhere and visit her on weekends.

I mean, V3 does look great and she's got all those morphs and polygons and she's ambi-sexual but... How do I justify just throwing away Vic2 all my Vic2 stuff? And that pretty much seems like what you have to do. The V2 clothes apparently aren't easily usable, nor are the textures; and I can understand why technically. But I'm still not able to get over just abandoning it all and having to invest in a whole new lot of items... Hell, V3's nearly making Michael obsolete as well... I don't know. And all the sites and merchant's mostly cater to V3 now so it's like having to start all over. I wish there had been a way to make V3 more of a true upgrade to V2 rather than a whole new wheel...
