Subject: Help Needed Female Human Model Choosing

erviin ( ) posted Wed, 21 May 2003 at 3:53 PM · edited Wed, 26 February 2025 at 6:46 AM

Hi every one. I hope this is the right forum for this message. I have Maya and Poser 5.0, never used them yet, never installed them yet. I've never done any kind of 2D or 3D art. I want to choose a base female human model. I don't know which are the possibilities, nor how to choose them. I've came across some models here and in other places, models like Victoria, Stephanie, Arizona, Daelyn, Judy, and a long list of etceteras. However most of the stuff seems to be something that requires either Victoria, Stephanie or Judy. How do I choose between the three? What makes one better than the other? Why there are so many character texture packs and is not enough with the models them selves? Well, for now that's enough questions... but I really have a lot more. Thanks a lot and best regards. erviin@argentina.com

Judy comes with Poser 5 from what I understand. Victoria and Stephanie are different models from Daz3d. Arizona and Daelyn I don't know about but I bet they are a character morph for Victoria , Stephanie or Judy. Victoria comes in 3 flavors. Vicky 1,2& 3. I have Vicky 1&2 and they are great models. I here lots of good things about Vicky 3 though. If you really want to get some opinions on these models ask in the Poser Forum. I have never used Maya but it is a profesional level piece of software. Also, I here the learning curve is kind of high on it. The movie FINAL FANTASY: THE SPIRT WITHIN was made with Maya. Thay have a Maya forum here if you have any specific questions. I'm sure they would be glad to help. Good luck and have fun. :)

For Poser the female model of choice is Victoria. She's currently on Version 3. For more information on her, check out her manufacturers website (Daz3d) I believe Judy is the name of the new female character in Poser 5 (but I could be wrong, I've got Poser 4) so if I'm right, you've already got her. Why so many character texture packs? Because people don't neccessarily want to make their own, but they don't want all their female characters to look identical. You're lucky to have Maya and Poser 5, hope you have lots of fun with them :-) If I were you, I'd load them up and start playing. You could also try checking out the relevant art galleries if you want to see what you can do with the programs, or the Poser and Maya forums which deal almost exclusively with their programs. Shanna :-) Hope that helps a little.

I'd also reccomend starting a new trend. :) Why not use Maya to produce quality products for models other than Victoria and Mike? I'm sure there are tons of folks who would welcome them. Once you get more familiar with Maya, you may also want to try making your own character models instead of using the pre-made ones.

Teyon is right. You could start by making your own unique morphs for the figures that come with poser 5. i think many of us do get modelling apps and try and learn them because we want more than the premade models. good luck.

Well, thanks a lot guys. I have not loaded the producrts yet for one main reason... My machine got burnt, blasted, usless. So I'm waiting till I get the bucks for a new one. However, I use my time on rentals to find out what will I'll be able to do once I can load thos two softwares. Mi intentions are: give life to the characters I design in my mind for role playing games (table top games that is, not computer games) no commercial ends to it. Just the fun of it. I want to create vampires, werewolves, wraiths, and a large lists of etceteras, and I was thinking that if there is already a start model I could use, that would save me a lot of time and head ackes cause I'm a terrible artist. XD Once again thanks a lot for your time and answers they've been pretty helpful.
