Subject: 215 folders in pose library.....Help!!!!

V3 with the DAZ head, body, and male morphs, plus textures is over 35 folders. I guess there is nothing I can do about that. Schlabbers poses alone are an easy 35 or so folders. Can I combine poses into a larger catagory? For instance, Dagger, sword, two handed sword, spear gun, bow & arrow etc, into a folder called weapons? Can I combine Schlabber, DNA, DAZ, poses into one weapons folder? I'm also trying to delete everything I'm not using (in all libraries), such as default character/animation stuff. I was told this would not harm any thing. I notice that I had a long list of items, and when I checked how many (215), I realized I was reaching the crash point. I'm at the point where I have problems finding things, and remembering what "MD345t77yi8", is/was. There has to be a better way. I'm not a techie, so figuring workarounds is a problem for me. This forum has been a tremendous help. :OP

P3DO has a Pattern Renamer, in the Tools menu, which lets you add prefixes or suffixes to all the files in a Pose folder (so you could add Dgr, Sw, 2HSw to your various Schlabber folders before consolidating them). As long as you have updated you can combine or remove any of the Pose!V3 folders - all references should now be to the Libraries!DAZ folder (you may need to edit third party INJ files made pre-update, either by hand or by temporarily restoring the old structure, loading the pose, then saving as a CR2 and running it through InjectionPoseBuilder to get an INJ PZ2 which isn't fussy about the Pose library structure).

Eowyn ( ) posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 8:05 AM

Many Poser users have also moved for example MAT Poses somewhere else. I have clothing MATs in Faces and skin MATs in Cameras... they work fine if you just change the extension :)

hauksdottir ( ) posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 8:06 AM

THIS is the primary reason why I don't like MAT files masquerading as everything else. If they also have morphs (such as the hawks) then they justify their space. However, we don't really need to click on 40 shades of eyeshadow and 26 painted nail jobs. ;^) So files which shape Vicky into an anime fighter and the corresponding poses should logically all go together; the same applies to files which make her into a male and all those relevant pose files. Can you move the textures into face or hands? (And change teh extensions!) It would seem much more logical if you are looking for a particular makeup flavor to find it under faces. Carolly

c1rcle ( ) posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 8:16 AM

pssst you could buy PBooost & split the v3 stuff into a bank all on it's own.

Dizzie ( ) posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 8:35 AM

I guess I don't understand PBooost...why do I need it to split the V3 stuff up?

c1rcle ( ) posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 8:47 AM

sorry I meant you can put all the V3 stuff into a seperate bank from everything else, it would make it easier to navigate & for the occasions you don't want to use her you wouldn't have to wade through 210 folders to get to what you really want to use.

PeterWahoo ( ) posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 9:03 AM

Yes!!!! PBooost is a godsend. It would be far less work just to create Banks for different things. Gosh, I tried moving Pose stuff into the camera library and such. What a lot of work, and what a mess!!! PBooost is in the Marketplace, for $20. It's the most useful thing I have in my Poser toolkit. While you're at it, get CorrectReference from Free Stuff. It will fix any problems you may have with textures. You may have bad texture references and not even know it.

JVRenderer ( ) posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 10:19 AM

I use PBooost! I have 5 different Pose folders, One for V3, one for V2 and Steph, one for mike, one for misc, and one for animals. I stopped counted my pose files after it hit 256. JV

I started doing something that is odd but works very nicely for me as I was so far past the point of poser not opening the things at the bottom of the pose list. I created a folder that holds libraries of pose file sets. such as -vicky clothing- then in that are all the pose folders that pertain to her clothing. -mikes clothing- again all the folders that pertain to that {be them mat or morph file/folders like all the mats for outfits} and so on {you get the idea} when I am working on a piece and I know I will need to set the mats and such for a dress or what ever I load that set of folders to the pose library and remove the set I am not using. this way I dont have the problem of not being able to get to the bottom of the pose list. and I also know exactly what is in the pose library {hate not knowing what a file is when the name has nothing to do with what it is} this way I know have cloths mats loaded...or make-up mats and it is a lot easier to browse through them. I dont think I explained that well...I make smaller "pose"library folders keep them seperate and load each "pose"library as needed...I think that describes it better. it is not as hard to do as it would sound and it is easier then it sounds as you know when you have all your cloth mats and where ...all make-up mats and where..etc

Dizzie ( ) posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 10:50 AM

what do you mean, you "load that set of folders to the pose library" ? Do you mean you move it into the Pose folder and move it out of the Pose folder when you're not going to use it?

Philywebrider ( ) posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 10:56 AM

P3DO?, Pbooost?, do they do the same thing?, or are they different? Should I get both? Plus CorrectReference? It gets more complicated all the the. :O( The DAZ INJ & REM files I think I'll leave alone, I can see see myself screwing things up. "P3DO has a Pattern Renamer, in the Tools menu, which lets you add prefixes or suffixes to all the files in a Pose folder (so you could add Dgr, Sw, 2HSw to your various Schlabber folders before consolidating them)." Sounds like a good idea (if I can figure out the suggested programs). I got a lot to digest. Thanks everyone I do appreicate your help.

DarkElegance ( ) posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 11:02 AM

@Dizzie, yup that is what I mean. I make mini pose libraries that way I dont have to try and locate them all. and move them there when I need them.that way I know exactly what I have at hand. I keep the mini pose libraries in a seperate location {in my doc} that way no confusion for the program. if it is a charecter set I group all those together in one mini pose library that way I know where all the make-up and cloth mats are. if it is clothing I keep all the MATs for that in another. hiar...same thing. that way if I am working on something and I know I will need {lets say{ V2 charecter MATS and the MATS for the adventurers outfit and using the DAZ changing ponytail...I can load only those folders and dont worry about it crashing or not finding just the pose file I am looking for.

Attached Link: http://www.senosoft.com/

P3DO is in Freestuf, under utilities, or at the above link. It's basically an Explorer-like file manager which groups files with their RSR/PNG thumbnail, so you can rename them and so on as a unit, extracts the texture and geometry references to a side window so that you can see what the item calls for and where it should go, and other stuff. It's very useful.

rockets ( ) posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 12:09 PM

I recommend PBooost...it's great and Howard (the creator) is such a sweetie to respond promptly to all my screw ups and questions. :-)

My idea of rebooting is kicking somebody in the butt twice!

hogwarden ( ) posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 1:08 PM

LOL! I've never been called a sweetie before!! Thanks hunnyflower! LOL! The idea with PBooost is to allow you to split each library (characters, poses etc...) into as many seperate 'banks' of content as you like. Poser will look into only one of these banks at a time, and you can switch between them with PBooost while Poser is running. PBooost allows you to split off these banks in whatever way you like to suit your own workflow... and make it one hell of an easier job to find the content you're looking for! I'd recommended that those of us with V3 keep all the v3 stuff in one bank... so the INJ files are always there when they're needed. Howard:)

c1rcle ( ) posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 1:14 PM

PBooost does something very similar to what DarkElegance does, but it takes all the hard work out of moving the folders around. CorrectReference fixes the texture references in all the files that have them (pz2, cr2, hr2, etc) so that when you load up your item or use a Mat pose you don't get the very slow loading or dialog box asking you to find the texture 3 dozen times, or in poser5's case the crash & burn. I would suggest if your runtime is over about 1Gb in size you use CorrectReference in stages cause it can take hours on the really large runtimes.

c1rcle ( ) posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 1:15 PM

& yes Howard is a sweety ;) in a butch manly sort of way of course hehehe

Um, Howard is a great friend, and he owes me a few beers, if I can ever make it over to the UK!

JVRenderer ( ) posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 1:50 PM

Um, Howard "Poser will look into only one of these banks at a time, and you can switch between them with PBooost while Poser is running." That's not entirely true. I have to exit Poser to switch banks. If I don't, 90% of the time Poser would just get stuck there looking for the switched folder. I have PBooost 1.3 NTSF Partition on Win2K Any remedies, Howard? Thanks JV

From version 1.3, PBooost can work fully on XP/2000 with Poser installed in an NTFS file system. (Thanks to the new Deep File Editor!) Artists with NT/2000 and FAT32 Poser drive should have downloaded the free PBooost NT Compatibility Tester available from Renderosity or 3dCommune freestuff. This will determine whether PBooost will be fully functional while Poser is running. Artists using Win98 or ME will always have full control with PBooost. This means you do not always have "full control" on other OS's (I have XP)? :O(

Philywebrider ( ) posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 2:23 PM

"From version 1.3, PBooost can work fully on XP/2000 with Poser installed in an NTFS file system." I haven't the remotest idea how to go about doing that. It gets more complicated all the time.

c1rcle ( ) posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 2:26 PM

I have XP-Home with NTFS & I get none of the problems of folders being locked unless I install something & forget to check for bad texture references. The tester did originally tell me I would have problems but thanks to CorrectReference it hardly ever happens :)

c1rcle ( ) posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 2:29 PM

go into My Computer, right click on the main system drive (C: usually) click properties & it'll tell you what file system you have (Fat32/NTFS). Converting from Fat32 is not too much of a hassle if you follow the instructions to the letter, if you do it wrong tho you could lose everything (make backups first).

Philywebrider ( ) posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 2:31 PM

The information in line #22 is from the PBooost "Read Me". What happens when your PBooost is not full operational? Do you get your money back?

melanie ( ) posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 8:35 PM

I didn't bother to count my folders in the Poses Library, but just the other day, I tried to click into one of the pose folders and it kept opening the wrong folder, to I figured it was getting too crowded in there. I decided it was time to clean house, so I created a folder on my C drive, called Poses, and moved the folders that I either never or hardly ever use over there. That way, if I should suddenly need one of them, I can just move it back into the Pose library. I sure wish the titles weren't truncated, though. It's hard to tell what they are when only part of the names are there. Maybe I need to see if there's anything else I can move out. Melanie

hogwarden ( ) posted Fri, 30 May 2003 at 6:02 AM

Hi again! Nice and fresh after having breakfast and walking the dog... Right... first, JVRenderer... OK when you've switched banks with PBooost, immediately select the #switchBanks folder in Poser. Then the next time you click on the drop-down it will have the new content in. The #SwitchBanks folder is a safe place to park Poser after switching so it can reset and clear the library tab. Otherwise Poser gives you half a million shrugging guys... this is all in the tutorials! Re: NTFS FAT32, the tester and PBooost... 1st FAT32... on some FAT32 XP/2000 machines, something nasty in the OS locks up the Poser folders*(see below) as soon as Poser is launched. The compatability tester in freestuff can help you to ascertain this. Perhaps my wording in the blurb is not too good there... The only factor affected by the OS is the ability to switch banks while Poser is running. *'FOLDER LOCKS' My definition of a folder lock is when PBooost gives a nice error message when you try to switch banks while Poser is running. Let's explode a myth here. A folder lock does NOT mean that PBooost is a no-go. Many users on FAT32 no-go systems get along perfectly fine with PBooost by careful organistation of the banks or even moving content into a working bank on the fly rather than switching banks at all. The product feedback and my mail inbox testifies this. NTFS: Folder locks only happen on NTFS drives if Poser loads a file with an incorrect reference pointer path. Poser will instantiate a search, find the file, then leave the search object open on ther folders. This locks the folders but not their content until Poser is re-started. Using CR or the DFE will clean up the references and stop the folder locks. PBooost 1.4 will help with fixing obj references too... I've found a couple of bad ones already! Kayjay... Linda I thought everything was fine over there! You never write! You naver call! LOL! Re: Re: refunds (I'm shaking!)... Yes, of course 'Rosity has a careful refund policy if you find a product defective. I gave a refund once... But it was a ZPad Beta-tester who bought PBooost although I wanted to give it to him as a gift... are you there, Netherworks? LOL! That was a funny day. Due to the change in working methods, some people do run into problems at first, but I'm always here to explain things and help sort out problems... ... we generally get everything clear and cool after a couple of mails and screenshots. Philly there's an interesting thread on NTFS a few up from this... just to thicken the broth. Right I'd better post this before I lose it again!!! #back to furious hair pulling# Oh... the update to PBooost 1.4 will be up soon... but I have been sending the tested early beta out to people wishing to use PBooost with Poser 5. Howard:)

hogwarden ( ) posted Fri, 30 May 2003 at 6:07 AM

Oh... there's more! 1.4 behaves the same as 1.3 with respect to the causes of locked folders. This problem is caused by Poser and/or Windoze... Notwithstanding it is much more stable, secure and feature packed. Blimey... I've never used the word notwithstanding before! God I feel old! Howard:)

Spit ( ) posted Fri, 30 May 2003 at 8:56 AM

Folder locks can also occur on NTFS XP whether Poser is running or not unfortunately. XP does it and I can't predict when it will happen. The only consistent solution is a reboot when PBoost can't switch. This is a separate thing from Poser creating a lock if it can't find a texture.

I've rarely experienced any lockups with PBooost and XP with NTFS since I used CorrectReference to fix my entire Poser installation. It's also necessary to use CorrectReference on any new stuff that you install or save! That's the part that catches me, since I get lazy sometimes.

Philywebrider ( ) posted Fri, 30 May 2003 at 10:48 AM

PeterWahoo "I've rarely experienced any lockups with PBooost and XP with NTFS since I used CorrectReference to fix my entire Poser installation." "Rarely" That means after useing CorrectReference you still get lockups after fixing all your stuff?

I think PeterWahoo means he gets locks when he forgets to correctReference new material! H:)

(Poser4) I need a program that can (get around) the file limitation (PBooost) I need a program to "fix" the files (CorrectReference), for program that "gets around" the file limitations (PBooost), of my program (Poser4) I need a program that has a Pattern Renamer(P3DO), which lets you add prefixes or suffixes to all the files in a Pose folder before consolidating them (PBooost), after running them through (CorrectReference), to get around (Poser4) file limitations. Do I have that correct? :OP

Spit ( ) posted Sat, 31 May 2003 at 11:04 PM

Just proceed anyway. That's the file that caches thumbnail picture data in Explorer. If you delete them, XP just recreates them. They can be pesky little nuisances but they make viewing in thumbnail view quicker. I think there's an option in XP to turn off thumbnail caching but I haven't a clue where.
