Subject: Poser tut on conforming, but still nothing!

I have followed an apparantly good tut for making clothes and conforming, but I still don't get it?! (Poser 4)

I have made a simple gown for both P4 man and woman just to see if I could make it. I have used the male/female overcoat.cr2 file for reference, which I believe is sufficient parameters for both gowns. I followed the tut to the end where I conformed, and then... zjoing! It looked like it exploded.

My gown, I see, has the same parameters now as the overcoat. But I see this, that when I load the gown it is placed higher than the overcoat. I believe that this has something to do with the scale of the obj file. After model I put it in UV mapper Pro and slice it, export it to import it in Carrara. Here I scale and fit the gown on a native Poser obj. After exporting it from here, it has the right size, but as I said it don't import to the right place in Poser. And I get distorted clothes.

I tried once before to make it around with PHI builder, with no luck. That was two years ago. I just abondoned the whole thing, but it is very anoying that I can not make this.

Please, some Poser guru, share your cleverness?

I have Amapi, Poser 4, Carrara, Strata, Bryce and UVMPro.

No Poser gurus available at the moment, so I'll try - you might find these links useful : http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=347959 http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=348598 - and if you buy PhilC's CD, you'll get all the guru advice you need (and no, I don't work for him ;o) )

What is it that make the clothes conform, the basic that makes it look similar to a conform? Should all the center points align, and then you tweek the others?

I have done PhilC's and some of yours, thip, but nothing comes right. With altering a cr2 file, something really weird happens. But I have gone over and made PHI file, and it at least looks like the same thing almost when I try to pose. I have done this before, but never managed to make it conform.

Could you post an image of "something really weird" - makes it easier to guess what might be the problem.

If it is better and you want to look at the files, they are at attached link

I have tried to tweak the center points, hours and hours are just flying and I getting nowhere. Or as a clever man said:" I have learned what does not work."

It seems that the obj is not placed over the P4man obj. I'd try to import the gown obj and the p4 man, carefully place the gown obj over the P4 man, then export it as a new obj, from Poser, giving it the same name as the original cown obj (so that the references in the cr2 stay the same).

Fine work - can't guess what's wrong with the joints, but I can tell you how to outflank the problem. Details in the links suggested above, but briefly, I did this : - Loaded your model - Loaded the OBJ model for the P4 male tuxedo - Moved/fitted your model to the tuxedo - ...by basically moving it -0.020 on the z axis - Re-saved your model under a new name. - Copied and opened the tuxedo CR2 - Changed the figureres lines to point at your new model - Saved, but didn't call it the same as the one that didn't work (to avoid having to delete the "big" RSR) - Restarted Poser, loaded your new figure, loaded P4 man, conformed No, it won't conform perfectly, for several reasons, most importantly - Your model's sleeves don't quite follow the intended wearer's arms (should be slightly bent, easy to modify in your modeling app) - The hip that goes all the way to the ankles (and the absence of shins) will inevitably look a bit funny when responding to poses that "expect" normally sized and placed hip and thighs Precisely because they are not "bipeds", dresses/gowns are the most difficult clothing items of all. There are many solutions (use welded thighs and shins, use only one leg, use morphs, etc.), which one you choose is up to you, of course. And we have all learned what does not work. That's why we all hi-jack CR2's from existing figures, by re-pointing the figureres line in a text editor. The Setup Room in Poser Pro Pack is just a graphic version of the same process ;o)

After done your points, the model is not visible. Have I not managed to edit the cr.2 file properly do you think?

thip ( ) posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 12:20 PM

"Disappearing" models are very often caused by an incorrect figureres line. In my case, the figureres lines (always make sure to correct both of them) were : figureResFile :Runtime:Geometries:Gown:P4mangown2.obj (...P4mangown2 being the newly-saved gown OBJ). Also be sure to check that you've saved your model with the "Include existing groups" option on. Otherwise, Poser will find the model, but not the groups needed for the body parts, and simply not use any part of the model = you'll see nothing of it. To check for this, open the model in UVmapper and try a select-by-group - if there are no groups to choose, there are no groups in the OBJ.
