What is this hidden function-- "treemaker" about I read in Masa's fur-fur tutorial about. How to I access this function it's not clear in the tutorial. Has enyone used this and Masa's fur-fur download?

Open Poser 4 and type "hair" (no quotes)

...and I don't believe anyone ever found much practical to do with the function. If I recall correctly, the polys will not render and/or will not export. (is that right folks?)

That's what Masa's FurFur utility is for ... it converts the line geometry into polygons that Poser and other applications can render. I had hopes that FurFur could do the same for Poser 5's dynamic hair, but apparently not.

I just got Poser4, WHAT a difference from my Poser3!! I don't understand anything much yet. When I want to parent something in Poser3 I know how to do it, but there are 3 option to do it in 4, including the "conform" thing. Does anyone want to explain it to me, and how do you unparent something? I do want to thank all for the help on Poser 3, now a new one for me (poser4) and I know many more questions, and trials are ahead.I hacked my poser3 character files up by changing the geometries to the poser3 woman from the original 4 female to work in Poser3, now I have to go and rechange them all back, and put all in Poser4 folder!! hum-bug!! I finally joined the majority of owners with Poser4!!

Thanks for cluing me in re Masa's FurFur LD. (I grabbed it long ago but never got around to checking out what it did and had forgotten about it -DUH!) So have people been using them together? Might I have seen some props that were made using TreeMaker and FurFur and just not realized it?

FurFur does what it says - converts the 'treemaker' objects to obj files. The problem is, the files tend to be HUGE. If you want 10 meg hair objects, fair enough. Not that it's Masa's fault. There are just so many polygons in a 'hair' object that it'll always be huge. Second point. You can't render treemaker hair, but you CAN export images. Just go to Menu/File/Export/Image and choose the format you want. The image will show everything you see in the document window (including lights, magnets, et al). dyan To parent a prop to a figure. Say you want to parent a comb to vicki's hand. Double-click the comb or go to properties (crtl-i) and select 'set parent'. In the list that appears, scroll down to find the body part you want (hand) and click it. This will make the prop a 'smart-prop'. If you resave it to the library, poser will ask if you want to make it a smart-prop. Click 'yes'. Every time you open it now, (with vicki already in the scene), the comb will go straight to her hand and follow it wherever you move the hand. The prop can still be moved if you select it, but it will always follow the hand. To UNPARENT a prop, do the same thing, but select 'universe' as the parent. Conform - The conform command is ONLY used for clothing figures. You have vicki and a dress figure. Select the dress, go to 'conform to..' and select vicki as the target. The dress will drape itself over her in position. mac

I happened to be on a site and D/L a "swamp monster" that had "hair and slime",and the credits were given to all including Masa, that's how I heard of it, So I went to the site,(been there before but didn't know what it was so never D/L it. Now I just might. But is this "treemaker" and fur-fur one in the same? or do I have to get this "treemaker" ? is it a all togeather different program? P.S.- mac- thank you for the parent help- understand now. Wish I had someone near me for a friend to show me Poser4, now I got read and it takes so long that way! ha!

They are different. TreeMaker is contained in Poser4 and activated simply by typing the word: hair

FurFur is available as a free download on Masa's site:
