Corel has sold it's WHOLE company to Vector Capitol. I could be very wrong, but by reading all the press releases, and such it SEEMS (seems, mind you) that Vector is going to just run Corel, and now do what THEY think is best to make a profitable company. Seems like the name Corel will not being going away, just being run by a different set of heads. Still says nothing about our Bryce, though. Just reading between the lines AS

Unfortunately, Vector Capital will probably just allow corel management run the company as they have this past year. That means they will continue to put Bryce on the back burner and concentrtate on draw and the office suite. Let's hope they decide to sell Bryce to Vue or Pandromeda to raise capital.
They might, who knows? But/also..I know If I spent 80 million on anything...I would be the boss, period, lol. This is basically what Vector Capitol does "for a living". I'll bet they are in the drivers seat now, at least I hope they are. AS

For what Vector Capitol has paid for Corel, it is unlikely that the present Corel management, as poor as it is, will have much to say about the direction the company will take. VC will have to decide, if they have not already, if Bryce fits into their 'core' business. In otherwords, a phone company probably won't sell lightbulbs, so they dump the lightbulb factory. VC will be asking theirselves if Bryce is a part of their core business. One could make an uneducated guess that based on the fact that Corel/VC dumped the price of Bryce and offloaded, most likely, the bulk of their onshelf inventory, that they plan on selling Bryce to another company or, and let us hope not, shelve Bryce. If one wanted to guess further as to the future of Bryce, they could probably ask what has happend to the folks at Corel that coded and supported Bryce. Are they still there. Have they been reassigned to other projects? How many have left in the last several weeks? Since this is a guessing game, we really will not know until VC makes their move and you can bet that they will be very tight lipped about what they will be doing, especially if they plan on selling or shelving one or more of their products. I just hope that Bryce manages to survive. skydiver
Skydiver many of those who worked on Bryce were fired last year and I believe that they were not very happy about it. I visited the Corel site today and to my surprise they had put Bryce back under the list of products. It also had a direct link to the upgrades under support. These links were not amongst there products for quite some time so what do folk think this could mean? Catlin
At the moment it could mean anything. Maybe they just want to get every cent of profit they can get out of bryce before they stop selling it. Maybe they visited this forum or places like it to do some research on the userbase of the corel products and decided to start working on bryce again. And maybe they just thought it would be easier to put the link back instead of answering lot's of mails asking where the link went.

Catlin I would guess that as far as any of us know, Corel has not hired back Bryce coders, therefore I would suspect that they will keep Bryce alive by keeping it in the mind of the users, in other words add the links back in until they have finalized the sale of Bryce with another company. Personally, I do not view Bryce as a 'core' element of Corel and therefore I believe that VC will sell Bryce off. They are not going to let it go into open source and they will not let if just die. Bryce is a product that is very 'sellable' and a way that VC can rid themselves of some overhead and make a little bit back on their investment. The suggestions made by Rayraz are all very valid, in my heart I hope that his second suggestion is correct. Wouldn't that be great if VC were actually going to start working on Bryce again! :) skydiver
Corel lowered the price of Bryce before VC had a true say in their company. I would hazard a guess that Corel did it to raise money, before the sale of Corel to VC. More sales in any of their products would make Corel worth more, even if it was a little bit more. Also, doing so, helps bring more attention to the product. As did some recent donations from Corel of their products to shools, which included Bryce. Press releases made sure to have the bryce name in the articles. And, lowering the price helped close the Vue competition back in a little bit. I've tried contacting Vector Capitol, no replies as of yet, I don't expect one. Not out of anything bad, I would just assume at this point, they aren't making their moves public in any way. I contacted Corel (one of the many times, lol), about their not offering a demo of Bryce on their website. Just seemed silly to lower the price, garner attention to it, and not offer a demo. And...I got a reply from an actual person! (real nice lady) She said; "At this time, a trial version is not available." (Which is kinda strange, since it once was) but she did also say; "I will pass along the information to the product manager." I don't know why, but I think VC believes Bryce is better off in their product lineup, than being sold off. At least, for now... AgentSmith

One thought that I've been playing around with is I have seen several buyouts and takeovers at the company I work for through the years (25+ years now) and they always get rid of the top brass at the corporate level, in this case the administrators of Corel, the same guys we've been verbally gutting for months. I see them on the unemployment lines, and smile. Of course, they probably all have golden parachutes, but I can dream, can't I?

Well, turns out that the Corel Corporation has decided to drop all stock and become a privatley held company. It seems that Corel has infact SOLD Bryce. To whom I have no idea... A full official press release should be out by mid next week on the matter... Oy!
