Subject: Is PoserStyle worth it???

MachineClaw ( ) posted Sun, 29 June 2003 at 1:30 PM · edited Thu, 06 February 2025 at 6:01 AM

I've been thinking of getting a subscription to PoserStyle for one or 3 of the items in the list. Here's the question, I've seen over the past few months people positng complaints about it. Is it worth it? there are about 20 of the archived items that I'd pay $30 for so I'm sure it's worth it for the back archives, but how about the regular "weekly" items. (I drug my foot on the PoserWord Subscrition to, but love it now). Thanks for taking the time to read the ramblin' of a confused man.

toolstech ( ) posted Sun, 29 June 2003 at 1:58 PM

I finally talked myself into a subscription yesterday. There is definitely more than $30 worth of archived content on there right now, so that by itself makes the membership fee worth it. IMO. I think the real question should be whether or not it will be worth renewing the membership once it expires.

FyreSpiryt ( ) posted Sun, 29 June 2003 at 2:24 PM

Well, my subscription just ran out like yesterday. It really depends what sort of thing you're in to, I guess. I haven't actually used anything they've put out in the last few months, so I let it lapse. I'll go back when they put up something I want again (I originally joined because I wanted to archer outfits, to be honest), and it'll probably happen. But it's not worth keeping in the meantime to me. I figured out that monetarily, unless they put up something I HAVE to have in the next six weeks, I'll be money ahead to rejoin rather than renew. However, for some people, they might use PoserStyle stuff all the time. The archive is definitely worth it, and they'll probably have at least a few things you'll want while you're a member, so if you have the money, I'd go for it. You can always hold off on renewing later.

FishNose ( ) posted Sun, 29 June 2003 at 2:58 PM

In a word: Yes. The trouble they had with moving the site and stuff - don't worry about that, it seems to be over now. There's something like 80 or 90 products in the archive, that's a huge collection of cool stuff. :] Fish

compiler ( ) posted Sun, 29 June 2003 at 3:07 PM

My subscription stopped a few weeks ago and I did not renew it. Since Renapd left, I find that the weekly items are a lot less useful for me. But I still go there from time to time to see if something will make me change my mind. However, I agree that there is definitely more than 30$ worth of items in the archive.

MachineClaw ( ) posted Sun, 29 June 2003 at 3:19 PM

Well seems that my initial feelin that I'd be paying for the archive is shared. Seems to be worth the money just for that. Thank you for your opinions. I did not know that there was a site more, or that Renapd had left. Thanks again.

Firebirdz ( ) posted Sun, 29 June 2003 at 8:38 PM

Poserstyle is now coming up with High Res V3 textures so that would be worth it.

Crescent ( ) posted Sun, 29 June 2003 at 10:01 PM

Unfortunately, I've had a lot of problems with the site, besides just the server hopping they've done. I've had several files that I had to ask for multiple resets before they'd download properly. (I don't have any other site where I have problems like that and I've tried IE, Netscape, and Opera to no avail.) They have e-mail problems, too - a lot of people have had problems contacting them. My last e-mail, complaining of more file download corruptions, was never answered. My subscription ran out (without warning) and the last two files that I actually wanted I never was able to download. I joined the site for joelegecko's wonderful textures, and there's been almost no textures since I joined up. thip and renapd are leaving, but Xurge has joined. The archive is easily worth the $30 - provided that you can get the files to download within 3 attempts. If I felt confident enough that the site would get properly straightened out then I might rejoin, even though most of their stuff lately has not been what I'm looking for.

MachineClaw ( ) posted Sun, 29 June 2003 at 11:10 PM

Well I join tonight for the archive. I figured there were 6 items I would pay for at full price and joining comes out to $5 each, not too bad. Hopefully there wont be a problem with the downloads etc. If there is I'll just join the ranks and put up a stink. We'll see how it goes.

Petunia ( ) posted Sun, 29 June 2003 at 11:50 PM

I won't renew my subscription because I never could get back into the server after the move and they don't seem to want to contact me anymore, as I am ignored. So be it.

Hanz ( ) posted Mon, 30 June 2003 at 3:09 AM

I posted the excact same question some months back, and joined poserstyle on the feedback I got from here. I am very pleased with the stuff I got for my money, and would recommend others to join also. The character/expression packs for example are neat, as are the clothing stuff they make. It is true that they've had severe server problems in the past, but it seems to be fixed now...all I can say is: Join! see you there... -Hanz

Peggy_Walters ( ) posted Mon, 30 June 2003 at 8:53 AM

Petunia, e-mail webmaster@poserstyle.com and let them know your problem. I also had a tough time after their last server problem, but once I used this e-mail, it was quickly solved. Is it worth the subscription - YES. Will I renew - yes. Peggy

DonnyD ( ) posted Mon, 30 June 2003 at 12:33 PM

I'm not sure. The items were good. But I kept having issues with gaining access. Issues that were recurring. I tried to work the issues out through email, but was unsuccessful. I've haven't received anything back from Poserstyle since my last email. We tried using my old userid and password with no success. I did everything that was sent to me. I'm a Webmaster myself and a sysadmin for an ISP. I beleive they are running an Apache server, and the command to fix the issue is trivial. I sent it in an email figuring that the people/person running Poserstyle was a Poser guru, not an Apache one. So I let my subscription lapse with no renewal.

ragmanjones ( ) posted Mon, 30 June 2003 at 2:31 PM

It appears they have links for contacting them that don't work. It appears PayPal doesn't have their current email address. PoserStyle's subscription info tells you to click on a Contact Link "above," but no such thing exists. I like what I see. Now let's see if they can get their act together.

queri ( ) posted Mon, 30 June 2003 at 4:36 PM

Not being able to set my own password has been a real problem for me. I'm no longer on the computer where that password was stored and not in the mood for the -- sometimes--curt messages I would get by way of support. I hope I can get internet access to that computer before my second sub runs out. I joined for more Mike stuff-- that's relatively true of this site-- and the stuff when you get it is high quality, even if the textures and models are separate. The site problems wore me down though. Emily

dialyn ( ) posted Mon, 30 June 2003 at 4:53 PM

I resubscribed because I feel I have gotten my money's worth and I am interested to see the direction that they go in with Xurge's participation. I understand that something special may happen for subscribers in July and I'm hoping that's an indication that they have resolved their problems with their servers, and are ready to push forward creatively. I haven't had problems contacting them with problems....the email address above (webmaster@poserstyle.com) works well, but they also monitor the Renderosity forum...Will (whwhitney)has been very helpful in answering my questions.

Spit ( ) posted Mon, 30 June 2003 at 5:03 PM

Mine runs out today or tomorrow and I won't have money in the bank for another 48 hours it turns out. Arggggh. I'm definitely renewing though.

dallas40m ( ) posted Mon, 30 June 2003 at 6:02 PM

I just renewed my subscription. I have found a lot of good stuff there that I use quite a bit. As to probs with the site, any that I have ever have have been remedied in very direct manner and time. The server move was definitely glitchy but they made good on it. So I am a very pleased and satisfied customer and hope to remain that way. :D

Warmest Regards,

Dallas

RHaseltine ( ) posted Tue, 01 July 2003 at 5:55 AM

Their email is either filtering out too much as spam or its replies are being tagged as spam/junk - I had a query on paying for the renewal which wasn't answered. I did renew though - I'll miss Thip's quasi-historical stuff, but it will be interesting to see how the new blood works out and I'm glad they're planning more character textures.

Irish ( ) posted Tue, 01 July 2003 at 6:38 AM

I signed on when they first opened and loved their items so much that I renewed when my time ran out. Due to the fact of all their problems over Christmas last year, I was given a two month extension on my sub (60 days). However, although my account on their site indicated there was 60 days left, I was abruptly cut off and no amount of emails, which were sent to several addresses, including one to Whitney right here at Renderosity, which showed he had received it, produced a reply. Although over my time there, I had read lots of horror stories like this - when it happens to you, it makes you quite annoyed. Their customer service is NIL - so if you run into problems, beware. I don't intend to go back unless they have something I really really want. If you want quality, customer service and smiles, then you can't lose at PoserWorld which is head and shoulders above PoserStyle in all regards. :( Irene

I'm sorry if anyone has problems with subscription sites. The artists involved hope to at least make "pocket money," and further their reputation. The rest of us just want a good deal on good stuff. PoserStyle does have some very amazing content! It's very attractive indeed.

MachineClaw ( ) posted Tue, 01 July 2003 at 8:50 PM

Well I subscribed, took a bit to get the login, and got an extra 2 weeks on the subscription. downloading all the back archive and no probs with access, speed of the site, or any of the files. $30 is worth the back archive files if nothing else is put up in the next 6 months I'll be happy with the 90 files that I got for the money. Thought I'd write a little note. Thanks for all the input and thoughts. Sorry about those that have had a rough expreience with their site. Seems a working good deal to me so far.

Subscriptions And Renewals over the next 48 Hours!!! Hi all, If you were contemplating a PoserStyle subscription subscription or renewal in the next 48 hours, we kindly ask that you hold off as I will be unable to enter new information until Thursday evening. The Wed. release will occur as planned and Rena's wonderful texture pack for Wolf's Pact Style-Victoria will go up Thursday evening. We are a few short days away from revealing the great things in store for members during the month of July. Stay tuned. . . Will WHWhitney The PoserStyle Team

Petunia ( ) posted Wed, 02 July 2003 at 3:59 PM

And will you be addressing the problems of us that got left behind? Would be nice.

dialyn ( ) posted Wed, 02 July 2003 at 4:01 PM

Actually Will didn't post the message...I did...and I'm not a staff person of Poserstyle. But Will is a Renderosity member...you might try sending him an IM or email directly. He's been responsive to my requests. I can only speak from my own experience which has, overall, been a good one.

Spit ( ) posted Wed, 02 July 2003 at 8:18 PM

My subscription ran out yesterday and just before it did I followed instructions and wrote to them. :(

Petunia ( ) posted Thu, 03 July 2003 at 2:02 PM

He never answers whatever message I send to him, email or therwise.

dialyn ( ) posted Thu, 03 July 2003 at 2:07 PM

Bummer. Sorry to hear that.

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Thu, 03 July 2003 at 2:53 PM

Poserstyle can kiss my @$$. I wouldn't renew my membership there if THEY paid ME. I've only been able to access the site once or twice, and like Petunia, the instructions either don't work or my e-mails are ignored or returned as "undeliverable". Who the heck needs this kind of aggravation? Not me. Kate the Irate

Petunia ( ) posted Fri, 04 July 2003 at 9:28 PM

You go Kate :)

Spit ( ) posted Fri, 04 July 2003 at 10:21 PM

Got my message today and I've renewed! Yay. Looks like some great stuff (and lots of it) is coming this month!

whwhitney ( ) posted Thu, 17 July 2003 at 1:33 PM

Hello all. I will not go into grand detail about every single thing that has happened with PoserStyle over the months. I will say that we have never ignored anyone. During the server change we sent new login information to every member through a mass emailing. We later found out that there was a glitch when the mass emailing was sent and not every member received it. We went back and emailed every member individually at the email address we had on file. Those that did not bounce back we assumed made it through to the recipient. This again was not always the case. We have gone through the database multiple times sending email messages to those members who we see have not downloaded since the server change. When messages bounced back as undeliverable, we contacted the members by phone. I made more than a few overseas calls during this time. I'll stop here and just say that it is not in our best interest or the best interest of any business to ignore it's customers. Customer service is very important to me. If PoserStyle were a brick and mortar store, many of the 'customer service' issues would have occurred due to face to face contact. But in the virtual world, once I send an email it is out of my hands. If something happens to interfere with it's delivery and it doesn't bounce back, there's no way for me to know the member didn't get it. Ultimately it's our responsibility to guarantee member a free line of communication with members. So to ensure member contact from this point on I will make a phone number available to all members where I may be reached if initial channels of communication (including us calling you) break down. This number will be made available to all members via the newsletter near the end of the month. Petunia, DonnyD, Queri and Kate, I will contact you via IM to begin fixing the issues at hand. We have been working hard to release 16 items this month for our members and we are at the halfway point. The more we create, the more Ideas we seem to get so there may be another similar surprise in store for members in the coming weeks. Take care and thanks for listening, Will WHWhitney The PoserStyle Team
