Subject: Problems with transparency and reflection in underwater wip

For some reason the hair transparency just does not work right underwater, is there any way to fix this? And how do I stop my fish reflecting on the water surface. Even if I make the water totally non reflective (which takes the sparkle away from the scene) I still get ghost fish. This is one of a series I am doing for my little gd, who loves mermaids. The little mermaid is being very kind and trying to help whatever is in the chest escape, but should she really?

are you sure the transparency is set to blend transparency?

Yes, and Ive turned of shadows on the hair, that doesn't help. I have never had any problems with this hair, or any hair in bryce before. Got to be the water, but how do I fix it.

Looks fine to me...

Take the water plane up higher and decrease the texture scale to where it looks the same. The reflection will be diffused out by the distance. Even if its still there you can raise the plane enough to where the reflection from the fish will be out of camera view. That way you can keep the reflection sparkle. Click the little A channel ball on both the transparent and transparency channels in the material settings. The white part should go away.

maybe put some light above the surface, this help me in this case. did you try caustics reflections?

This may be a dumb suggestion, but if you cropped the top of the pic a little, you could get rid of the fish reflections and still see the upper plane of the water.

What about trying blurry reflections in the Premium Settings? Don't know if it works, but could be an idea. S.

Chohole, are you using a volumetric (slab) plane or a flat plane? Also, what's the TIR set at, if you're using that effect? But I understand your frustration with the hair, it seems like Bryce can't really do 2D alpha transparency alongside Volumetric World. Do you have Volumetric World on? Just some ideas....

For the hair maybe try turning down the ambience.

Here's a render that reflects and a front view showing the camera. The water plane is selected.

Here's the second render with the plane lifted. No reflection, but the water is really flat.

Finally I go into the materials editor and change the x,y,z scale of the water from 35 to about 3.5. Smaller scale=bigger bumps the water looks interesting again.

Good explanation there, Electroglyph. Chohole, we're all interested in seeing how your pic turns out! Please let us know if the problems got fixed...

If the water is a volume slab you can just turn off internal reflection to get rid of the shadows. An least I think that's how it works.
