Well I can tell buy the uniform he is not US. What era is he from? When I was in (US Army 1981-1985) we were not allowed any hair on the chin and mustaches were not allowed to touch the lips nor pass the corners of our mouths. (quite a change as I sign up after a year in Conservation Corps and had hair down to my a** =8p But his face is outstanding! He definatly has a war-weary appearance and EYES FRONT! I'd follow his lead, Sir!
I was asking because when I was stationed in Germany and had the honor of training with units from other contries some of them were allowed some facial hair. Actually a well groomed beard, such as his, should seal just fine in a gas mask. The gas mask was really the only excuse the US gave for not allowing us to wear hair, even though we all knew it would seal anyway ;p
igohigh, notice the date on the aged look image 1826, don't think gasmasks have been invented yet. my 2 cents 1. darken the background 2. tighten & raise the collar with a magnet if possible 3. before convertion to sepia tone (monotone brown color) raise the contrast 4. change the eyes they seem kinda cartoony with such a realistic face (personal choice - the poserstyle replacement eyes) I like everything else, expression, hair, pose, etc...
Looks good, made me think of an officer in the civil war type of look. igohigh we had the same rules about beards in the RAF and was told the same excuse many times (i hated shaving ;o) i found out though that it is true, a friend i met late in my career was allowed a beard due to scarring but was told to shave in time of war, well anyway he was supposed to be excused the gas chamber part of the mask training but a nasty RAF regiment sgt made him go in anyway (he didn't believe it would matter either)..well he didn't stop coughing for 2 hours and i've never seen a redder pair of eyes LOL, tear gas BTW....Steve
Thanks for the input folks!! BTW this was rendered in Cinema4DXL 7.3.3 with only3 point lights in the scene.
I'd suggests a little more irregularity in the hair - the beard is wonderful, but the hair looks inhumanly straight. I don't think any combination of hairspray or mousse would hold hair in such rigid lines. ;) A little more color-matching of hair and beard might help, too - a few white hairs would certainly add to the war-weary appearance. Furrowing the brow a bit more might add to the "weariness" of the expression, without detracting from the military precision of the "eyes front" pose.
