Subject: Corrupted file : P4nudewom.obj

rogue ( ) posted Tue, 11 July 2000 at 10:30 AM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 10:36 AM

I have corrupted my P4nudewom.obj file playing with Raydream. Does anyone know where I can download it or can someone send me the file? Thanks

LoboUK ( ) posted Tue, 11 July 2000 at 10:37 AM

The file is on your Poser CD - you may have to do a full re-install. Please note that what you are asking is illegal - the OBJ file is (and remains) the property of Zygote. It would be breaking the copyright laws to send this to you. If you have a (legal) copy of Poser, then you already have an uncorrupted version of this OBJ-file on your CD. If you are using a "warez" version nobody here will be willing to help. Please do not request similar items which you should have on your Poser CD - we do not tolerate warez requests or pirates on this site - in any shape or form. We warn first in case it is a genuine oversight, but we will site ban people who persistantly request illegal copies of Poser software. Paul

You can find the file on your Poser CD. If you can't pull it out of there directly just install a second copy of Poser to a different directory name, then copy it out of there.

Hi Folks! Er--shouldn't someone who has a LEGAL copy of Poser KNOW that to eliminate problems with corrupted files the files in question need to be re-installed from the CD? What are the circumstances in which this kind of request is a "genuine oversight?" (I'm clearly showing a lot less patience for this than Paul is.) Peter (Dr Zik)

blau ( ) posted Tue, 11 July 2000 at 4:00 PM

Fuck you all. I've had this problem too. Luckily a nice person here suggested a way to fix it that worked. He told me it wasn't the obj that was corrupted, but the rsr. Delete the rsr and then reload the nude woman. Poser will build a new rsr. This may be way off topic. If this doesn't work let me know. wink wink

arcady ( ) posted Tue, 11 July 2000 at 4:00 PM

A lot of people are not to knowledgeable on the technical end of things. This lack of technical education shouldn't be used to exclude them. Frankly with a warez copy you could re-install also. So it's just as likely to be either case. I prefer to error on the side of being less hostile and letting them know how they can get it off of their CD.

Hi Folks! Fair enough. I guess there is a reasonable circumstance for such a request--although I for one doubt that anyone who has enough of competence to use a 3D graphics application would not at least know about reinstallation as an option for addressing file corruption issues. Peter (Dr Zik)

Not everyone learns things through the same process as yourself. I know people who've used DOS/Windows machines since the mid 80's and still don't know how to access the DOS prompt or that there's a Windows Explorer that they can use to navigate through their hard drive. Many people only go for learning the parts that they deal with. A lot of DOS/Windows people couldn't install software on their own before the autoinstall features were added. Get a tech support job for a while. Computers are not obvious to most people. Even people who are sometimes pure experts at using a given set of applications. Especially in graphics work. Most designers I know have no clue what their MAC's system folder and extensions folder does even though they can whip up some 'mean work' in photoshop or illustrator. It's simply not the world they think in.

Hi Folks! Since this issue seems to push a few folks buttons, maybe I should offer some insights into why it pushed mine, before this degenerates into an online pissing match. In fact, arcady, its a tech support problem that prompted me to enter this thread. I dont work for a software producer, so piracy doesnt affect me in that sense. But one of my professional activities is teaching courses on desktop publishing, computer animation, and 3D design at a major university in the northeast United States. This past academic year a significant amount of tech support in my classroom/lab had to be spent recovering computers that had been disabled by jerks who had attempted to override security protocols and illegally download software. This was tech support that was therefore not available to my students, although they pay handsomely for that assistance in student lab fees. Im also still smarting from a classroom confrontation with a student. I made a major deduction from an assignment after I determined she had copied some artwork from a web site and had not given appropriate credit to the original artist. In the academic community, plagiarism is one of the most serious offenses one can commit. I understand that there are users who innocently arent aware of the implications that emerge from questions like the one that started this thread. But theres also a lot of unethical creeps out here, as some of the recent online controversies about materials theft have demonstrated. The success of this Forum depends a lot on a continuing support from producers such as Zygote and hopefully, Curious Labs. That support will evaporate if they feel that the forum is not acting decisively enough to discourage the circulation of illegally obtained software. I think the moderators would agree with me. I will support their efforts by continuing to be vocal about at least examining if not challenging the veracity of requests like the one made by rogue. Peter (Dr Zik)

nice bitch doc, but it was never established whether or not Rogue is using a pirated copy, and it is wrong of you to think so. It's nice to see that our University computer help is so judgemental. That would explain why most techs are so arrogant. Rogue may have no idea how to fix this problem and negelected to look on his/her cd. I do that all the time. Shame on you for being such a pesimist.

Stormrage ( ) posted Tue, 11 July 2000 at 11:33 PM

blau it doesn't matter if he is using a pirated copy or not. He asked for someone to send him the P4NudeWoman.obj that in itself is illegal not how to fix it. Many warez copies also have missing files when you install them (one of my friends thought he'd get something cheap and learned the hard way it's best to buy it.) So you don't always have to reinstall to get the fixed file because it just might not be there. While you are right in the diagnosis as well, because it might be that problem. It is also right in telling the poster that what he/she/it/they were asking is illegal. Stormrage

Blau: The best test of Rogue's intention is to see any additional response in this thread. Tech support is like a mirror that is held up to the user, to help them find their own solution. Deal.

I just want to add, about the .rsr...make sure you're deleting the .rsr in the Geometries folder, not the charactor folder. The rsr in Geometries is the one that gets messy. -Darth

what if poor rogue had his CD-poser4 broken? will no one help him?

LoboUK ( ) posted Wed, 12 July 2000 at 5:34 AM

If the CD is broken, Rogue would have to get in touch with Meta and Zygote to arrange a replacement - as cold as it might sound, even in such circumstances it would still be illegal for anyone to send a replacement OBJ file. Paul

dunga ( ) posted Wed, 12 July 2000 at 5:54 AM

Correct! and there was no need to have 15 threads.

Nice to see some high and mighty Judgmental groove goin down - "ooh - it's illegal to send this file to you". While yes this is true, a lot of you are yellin about it like ice-cream comes out of your assholes... because obviously you've never even contemplated doing anything so naughty. STORY: A friend of mine, a graphic designer, had to use Poser 4 to render some surfing dude for something or other. He needed the P4NudeMan set of OBJ files, but somewhere along the line they got corrupted. Add to this the fact that the CD wasn't reading properly so he couldn't reinstall. He contacted Curious, who told him he needed to go back to his original supplier - it wasn't their problem. He did, but the CD didn't arrive for 4 weeks, by which time he'd lost the contract to someone else. THE MORAL: If I'd had Poser 4 at the time I would have sent the file to him in a second. He needed it, he lost the job without it, Curious weren't much help (although admittedly not their fault) and even when he got the CD from his supplier it was the wrong version. I think some people really need to step off their high-horse and unclench their buttcheeks. And yes, I realise I'm posting on this almost a year late, but I've had the same problem. Cheers for the RSR tip, Blau. Worked a treat.

Hi Folks! Sorry, johnny, still no sympathy from me. Any person who makes a living from digital design would know--SHOULD know--enough to back up essential files, including software applications. Corruption happens. Your friend learned that the hard way. But giving him the .obj files is still illegal. I've been in the design business long enough to recognize clearly the differences between honest mistakes, bad habits, and lazy ethics. Your friend made an honest mistake. Most of the people who request files here fall into the other two categories. Peter (Dr Zik)

Okay, but what I want to know is -- can we still lynch him even though we're a year late? (Sheesh, for a moment I thought good'ol Lobo had become a Mod again.)
