Subject: Violent nudity

Recently in this forum their was a discussion concerning limited views and comments in the gallery... and it was suggested that 'suggesting' nudity would increase these...
Well, that does not seem to have had much of an effect, nor did stating violent content.
Monday, posted two images. One did have abstract fractal nude breasts... so to be safe, and - to see if this did have an affect on viewership, posted with a 'nudity' tag. The other image, with it's title, hopefully planted in a viewer's mind, the idea of wanton and wastefull destruction, and from the comments this did have that effect.

Do appreciate those that viewed these images, and especially those that were kind enough to leave comments, however neither image received any more views then the limited numbers that the majority of my postings generate...

Thought this was interesting, and that enough time had passed to see the results, so thought would share the results....

best, hewsan

I have many "suggestive" fractals and have only posted one to Renderosity...and think it was before there was a "fractal forum"...lot of my "earlier stuff" was posted to the "other app" or "bryce" galleries.

I didn't tag it as "nudity", and didn't think I needed to...dunno...afterall it was "just a fractal"...albeit, a bit "suggestive" (to some minds I suppose)...but I didn't intend it to be that way...in fact I was messing around with a XD "mushroom shape" which was in fact a "modified spiral" and this motif just popped out.

While the image got a goodly number of "hits", not many folks left any comments (giggle).

And, since I heard that some folks shot whatever drink they happened to be drinking at the time thru their noses, when I posted this to other fractal forums, I thought it was best not to post some of my other "suggestive stuff".

Anyway....maybe I ought to try out "some violent fractals" for a change of pace!? ;-)

Hahahahah... That might be considered a bit suggestive... Though you have one to many http's in the link. The best way to attract views - believe was one by someone that claimed -with just text in the thumbnail - that it was the best fractal the viewer would ever see.... Comments for the most part thought otherwise though.

It was me that made a comment about a possible raise in the hits rate of an image if it is ranked as nudity/violence. A reason for it not increasing your number of views (as expected?) is because it's much less obvious that people would try to find nudity/violence in a fractal gallery, which has much more abstract images than anything. They can get that easily in the Bryce galleries. Also, if an image of a typical fractal is posted with its thumbnail displaying the whole image and it is tagged as nude/violent, just those that view images based on searching results (not many people do that I suppose) and have this option included in their searches will deliberatedly see the images, but the "trick" is promptly discovered and that user can be excluded from further searches - it can work, but just once. An additional "trick" would be to add a thumbnail of a detail of the whole image, so the user won't have an idea if the image really contains violence/nudity or not (and is clueless about the image at all sometimes), and may be tempted to click it. As I usually used to click on images based mostly on their thumbnail appearances, and as I was many times fooled by thumbnails that don't show delicate textures or details of great images, I've stopped doing that, and I try (when I have the time to browse the category) to click as many images as possible, except when it's quite obvious that the big image can't be much different from the thumbnail. I was surprised many times by some very good texture works that was gone in the thumbnail, and made the image look "common". Adding the violence/nudity tag is not a rule of thumb to make your hits raise, obviously. I would try to concentrate more on doing "better images" (I'm not saying that yours aren't) than actually "cheating" like that, taking the care of not doing things because they are "the latest trend" (this was also discussed in that thread), but doing what you want to do and doing what you can do the best, imposing yourself because of the quality of your style, not because of cheats. If it has 100000 hits, great. If it has 1 (yours), no problem, not always it means that it is a "bad image".

My recent view statistics taught me that when I post one single image in a few days and put much effort in it (finish it over several days), then its view count and comment count is nearly double as high as when I post three images in a row... But I must admit even this rule has exceptions...

Who cares? I suppose if one is only posting to put another notch in the 'image count' headboard then it might make a difference. Seems to me that is the antithesis of what the artist's drive is all about.

I agree, I think this thread is silly. :) Given some of the images that have had a ton of views, I am sometimes grateful when mine do not. :)

Agreed. I think the original intent of the thread was valid (at least in something like the Poser/3D venues), but real artists don't worry about views and comments. A true artist creates art for art's sake, and fulfills a drive, not a view quota. It's so odd, I mean, there's no equivalent to this in the world of fine art. You have art critics, and in school you have your instructor and group critiques by fellow students (always interesting); but this is something else entirely, and often not really about the art at all, but more about popularity and cliques.

That does it, Ween. I am going to open a new RO account and click on my images until the cows come home.

:) Cliche, Min. I'm sure it's been done many times before. :)

You think? Hmmm........that would explain a lot. :)

Since firefly is away due to a family emergency, let me post a quickie reminder :) If your image Does Not contain Nudity and/or Violence, AND you engage the nudity or violence tag - You are only going to create more work for your moderator, as the moderator will have to Unclicked those tags. :( I personally think Fractal works are amazing and can stand on their own without having to resort to false nudity/violence buttons :] Thank you all for your understanding and thoughtfulness in this matter - Fractal Members ROCK :) ladynimue
