there are gold & silver reflection maps included with poser (p4 at least but I assume they should be in 5 also) In poser 4 they can be found in... Poser4/Runtime/Reflection Maps

Also quite a few Poser props, etc... come with them, so you probably already have several.

Also just about any texture can be used as a reflection map. some look better.

You should try using a very high contrast fractal as a reflection map. It's not always immediately useful, but the effects can be "interesting". :)

The best method I've found is up on Traveler's site, in the tutorials section.

Reflection maps are just images. Its a programming shortcut. Instead of working out the actual ray traced reflections it uses the reflection map instead. For example a picture of a wall with a window would work well as a reflection map on a glass vase in a room.

Those of you that have the recent Swing Zone set may like to look closely at the shiny belt. You are now looking at a picture of my yard :)

You can use any image for a reflection map. The effect will depend on the image, of course. I second the idea of using a fractal. It does give some VERY interesting reflective effects. Best suggestion is to just expriment with different kinds of textures and see how they work, how they end up looking, what effects you can get from them, etc. My personal opinion is that you learn more from fiddling and playing that from any other source. ;) bonni
