THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Bryce 5 used in any movie for Special Effects?

I have a question: It would interest me - cause it is easy to express your thoughts and dreams openly with Bryce 5 - if anyone knows something about whether Bryce 5 was used so far for the Special (3d) Effects in any movie or film? I know there are quite more powerful? and bigger programs (means more mathematical, but harder to read through manual) like softimage and 3d studio, but it would just interest me, cause when I see a stargate production documentation they showed a computer screen which has a similar interface to Bryce 5, I could not realize if it was it exactly, cause it was not sharp, but it looks like :) thanks for answering :) I also searched on google.com for "Bryce 5 in Movies"; but nothing interesting found so far :) thanks. and nice dreams...

i don't think any professional company uses bryce for it's special effects, like yourselfs said, it isn't powerfull/realistic enough

I know the BBC has used bryce before on a documentary about the weather. they made a quite impressive river with it. It was reviewed in one of the early issues of 3DWorld mag. Bryce 5 could well have been used to make virtual terrains, because that's what it's best in. I can't give any names of famous films though. As for not so famous names: Planetary traveler has been made with bryce2 and 3d.

And the sequel to Planetary Traveler, Infinity's Child (PT is better, my opinion). The last time I checked, both were still available on DVD.

This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

To start with, here's a quick list of newer movies that contain Bryce work : Lord of the Rings (all 3) Cube 2 : Hypercube Terminator 3 The Matrix Reloaded Animatrix When animators get together, and they're well paid and highly skilled, they don't sit around and ego-bash each other into using ridiculous programs all the time. What they do is get the job done as quickly and nicely as possible so they can go party or spend time with their loved ones, and that means using all of the tools available. Bryce's animation tools are fast and potent, and when combined with After Effects, are enough to do all kinds of professional environmental work. It's not about the brush or the canvas, it's about the painter, and the painting. The only reason kstar thinks Bryce isn't powerful/realistic enough is because that "artist" never pushed the software. One trip to Ornlu's gallery will take care of that opinion, may it rest in peace. One trip to kstar's gallery will produce NO results, because he/she doesn't even have a gallery. What's really fun is catching those slacker animators using Bryce PRESET materials! (grins)

I think I saw an article about how the city maps for the 5th element were done in Bryce. Unfortunately corel has not been keeping very good lists as of late.

Yup Shadow, you got it. In a professional workplace, there really is no "you're using what program?", it's what can help us get this done in time for our deadline, period. And, they will use a large amount of various programs. IF there were one 3D package that truly did it all, that's the one we would all own. *Now, at the very least, one thing that Bryce (and Vue, Terragen) can do easily is creating ground/mountain terrains that can be exported to other programs. THAT function is used quite a bit by pro's. Terrain generating is something high-end programs do not do well on their own(quickly/easily). They now have some plugins/add-ons for them that will help do this for them. Yet, some pro's still use an exported Terrain from Bryce (or similar), because they already have Bryce. AgentSmith
