THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Poser vs. Bryce

I may have just opened a can of worms with that statement. I've only been at R'osity for 3 months so I apologize for my ignorance. But I've noticed a HUGE imbalance here at R'osity. I love Bryce, but am a Poser fan, too. My opinion is Bryce has 10x realism than Poser even though they are 2 dif programs. Is there a symbolic reason why Poser renders have more popularity here? I did open the most viewed for Bryce and there are many amazing and popular images, but the ratio is really off. I'm just looking for opinions on this matter - maybe peace of mind, thanks!

Most poser images are nudy pics. Those are just more popular.

Poser is a very popular program anywhere. Its more popular for its character animator/creator than its rendering engine. Many people (including myself) who use bryce use poser and vice versa. I do like using bryce more than poser, and i do agree with you, however the reason the poser community is bigger than the bryce community is simply because of the "character/figure" element of poser.

Just to help set the record straight, that may be the case here Renderosity and at the moment there's no real way of knowing. At one time together with the Forum galleries they published the numbers of submitted images and I seem to remember that Bryce had the lead here also but I may be wrong in that respect. In any case, another 3D art web site still publishes their submissions by software forum, 3D Commune, take a look here and compare the numbers and make up your own mind;

Another factor is that Renderosity started as a Poser web site.

firewall1947 ( ) posted Sat, 06 September 2003 at 2:48 PM

Yeah, Poser's just dandy. I use it quite often in images, but bryce can create just about any scene whilst poser will always be just a flesh maker, hence the popularity of its galleries. Maybe that is an oversimplification, but I see poser as the monkey not the organ grinder. (Now pauses for poser lovers to bash the hell out of me)

Quest,

You are right, my fellow artist, you are right - about 3D Commune. It's clearly evident which is by far more popular. Now I understand.

Poser's owners are one of the supporting organizations for this site, so they get more attention. Bryce's owners are...? fill in the blank..I wish they would..;) They're both good programs, but I don't know how many Poserites are that concerned about HDRI, or caustics, etc..to be fair, I have both packages..;)

Yeah, 3DCommune is 32,383 Bryce renders to 13,639 Poser renders. Yeah, that's just about as opposite as you can get from here, lol. We have (approx); 41,989 Bryce renders and 94,649 Poser renders. As said, basically because Renderosity was started as a Poser site. AgentSmith

Poser to me is "RUBBER DOLL" time the figures always look fake. If you are into body parts "POSER" is it. My thinking is if you want a figure in your pic draw it at least this way you really show your arttistic ability. Dislike "POSER" period. Don't hang me for it. Just my oppinion but it does feel good to get this off my chest. Regards ALL.

Yep.... I will never leave Bryce, but I use poser for some of the contents that go into my pics. I have a new one going up in a few minutes that has 2 poser characters in it (not nude either.... actually not even human heh heh heh). They really compliment each other Poser and Bryce do. I like having the ability to use them both for an image if I so choose. But I mandatorily do all my rendering in Bryce . Wade

As was said above it's all the nude images that makes Poser popular. If even a Brycer hits the nudity tab then the viewing goes through the roof. I've got Poser but I'm not terribly keen on it, if there were something else like say DAZ Studio, I think I'd have to try it. But Bryce is my main toy, I even bring my Poser figures into Bryce to render, it doesn't happen often, btw, but when it's nesessary that's how I use it. 8) Catlin PS. do you think DAZ would make a module to use DAZ Studio in Bryce?, that would be pretty neat, I think I'll ask them. 8)

What I have to say about Poser is it makes a great utility for Bryce. :)

despite the stunning scenery we can make, I've noticed the inclusion of a 'yuman' (as the Ferengi say), perks up the interest, and hit count..;) Maybe I should try a n*ked Vickie on a reflective sphere above a lake, like the man earlier said..;) there's always room for one more hammer in the toolbox..;)

Like I said, I wasnt too sure about Renderosity and had no access to the numbers but that's quite a difference in statistics between the two sites AgentSmith. Then again, I dont think you can compare the two sites when it comes to membership numbers and because it would only stand to reason that if Renderosity started as a Poser Forum, its membership would be largely Poser users. Nevertheless for a software that has passed through so many ownerships, has gone for so long without functional overhauls and is presently parent company orphaned, Id say those figures only helps to attest to the popularity which is uniquely Bryce. Ive owned Poser since version 1.0 and have upgraded right along with it to Poser 5 and I have yet to be attracted to its render engine for producing anything near as beautiful as Bryce can easily produce. I view its functionality as Aldaron says, as a good Bryce utility. Create the figures in Poser and import them into Bryce. For without the use of an external program such as Bryce, Vue d Esprit or any other 3D or image-editing program, what would Poser use for background setting other than photos? On the other hand, Bryce has proven time after time that it can stand alone and carry its own weight.

I think of Poser, along with most of my other graphic software, as a plug-in for Bryce. :^) With the type of images I create, animals and people are sometimes essential.

Personally I don't like poser. It makes me feel like I'm using presets. When I use a poser figure I try to give it as much of my own touch as I can by using my own poses, textures, lighting and postwork. Basically anything to make it look less like it came from poser. When I've got the time I like to model my characters from scratch.

For me ... all roads lead to Bryce. Poser, Pixels, Wings are all just ways to make things for Bryce. I've seen some great Poser Renders(definitly not mine) but nothing compares to Bryce's render quality at anywhere close to its price.

Phantast ( ) posted Tue, 09 September 2003 at 10:53 AM

I agree; I think it's a mistake to try and thing of Bryce and Poser as somehow totally different worlds. In the long run, the aim is to make artistically satisfying images. How many programs you use, and which, is immaterial. If you don't use Poser, it becomes difficult to add human figures to Bryce renders. Simple as that.

MoeGoofie ( ) posted Tue, 09 September 2003 at 11:10 AM

As someone has already stated - if you add Michael or Vicki to Bryce, the interest increases. So I did just that in my gallery, and it's a no brainer. The original inquiry didn't address which program to use - it asked "Is there a symbolic reason why Poser renders have more popularity here?" - which has already been answered 10 fold - this site was started by Poser users and skin is in. Thanks for all the reponses they've been very helpful.

I never change the content of my images to make them more popular. I always make what I think looks cool or beautifull and what makes me feel good while making it. If other people like it that's just the bonus.
