Well folks I am here once again to show folks the Awesome Product called "MetaForms"...This Modeling Module for Poser is just the start for the stunning Possibilities of modeling within Poser now,We will be able to build anything possible,Animate Volumetric Fire,Water,Smoke,Blood,Magical effects mist/Blood/gore rolling across the ground or smoke trailing from an animated Torchfire or campfire all this is possible and only limited by your computer...This animated Gif is just a small one that the makers showed us Betatesters and I couldnt help but let you guys in on this stunning animation and the possibilities are endless..

Excerpts from the tutorial follows:

In this simulation, Metaballs rise from a single point into a broad column. At the base of the column, where the Metaballs have their highest intensity, and greatest degree of overlap, the high combined field strength makes more of the bright yellow and orange inner layers visible. At the top of the column as the Metaballs expand and seperate, the combine field strength is lessened and the outer (black) layers of the surface dominate, giving a smoky impression. The simulation is built from 45 Metaballs, all members of a single surface,The surface mapping mode was set to Field Spherical to take advantage of the rotation of the Metaballs and the tiling was set to a factor of two.
U and V Map Perturbation was also added to create additional swirling. The Pertubation Phase of the surface prop has been keyframed to create a smooth change throughout the course of the animation.

Now this is just the start and I will let you all see the progress as I do the Torchfire and smoke...

PS...Click on the link to see the fire....

WOW! That is quite impressive. Got any higher res renders? I bet this stuff in conjunction with P5 shaders could be really powerful.

foleypro ( ) posted Mon, 08 September 2003 at 6:35 AM

Thanks Sixus1. I am going to be doing the tutorial thru the week into the weekend and will post Screen shots as I go along I am going to be doing TorchFire,And I will render at 640x480 at least, they just wanted to show us what they were talking about...

SothArtist ( ) posted Mon, 08 September 2003 at 6:47 AM

wow.. Now this looks really stunning. Huge poosibilities! And if people like Sixus are impressed it's a great sign :)

MaterialForge ( ) posted Mon, 08 September 2003 at 6:49 AM

Oh, sweet. Will explosions be possible with this? That'd be too cool... Still, I'll buy it! Animated smoke is just what I need for some renders.

ynsaen ( ) posted Mon, 08 September 2003 at 8:46 AM

Still curious to know more about the tool itself. While the image is impressive, what of greater importance (imho) is the usability and learning curve associated witht he product. The interest is there, but I needs ta know more, chile. Share a bit with me...

Hi Everyone

We thought it was time you got some feedback from the company regarding the MetaForm Product.

First off, thank you to Brian for your continual support and for showcasing some of Metaforms abilities.

My name is Cheryl and I deal with all the non technical aspects of the company, including general correspondence. We hope to be able to provide some more specific information regarding the final feature list, release date, price and purchase information of MetaForm in the very near future but in the meantime we would like to answer some of the questions which have been asked on the Forum.

Our designer has given the following answer to your technical queries:

The product will be packaged with a Users' Manual, including tutorials and examples to get started. Additional tutorials and materials will also be packaged and available as online resources addressing more specific effects and techniques.

The philosophy has been to create an open-ended product which will allow users to find new ways of achieving specific effects and new things to do with the product. We expect people will have a lot of fun experimenting with the possibilities.

Most of the functionality is available through simple button clicks, and standard Poser interfaces such as prop manipulation, parameter dials and timeline editing. We have avoided re-inventing the wheel wherever possible.

Explosion effects will certainly be achievable using the same techniques as the fire simulation demonstrated by Brian.

The product will be available for Poser 4 ProPack and Poser 5 users. Much of the built in material functionality uses advanced texture mapping which can be used by both Poser versions, but Poser 5 shaders can also be applied and it is expected that P5's volumetric materials and MetaForm's multi-layer surfaces and advanced UV mapping techniques will provide a powerful combination.

On a more personal note, I recently tested the Metaform product. Having never used Poser or any other modelling products in the past, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I could use and manipulate the Product to model a simple object with great ease. The only time I had to ask for help was when I was trying to navigate the poser tools. Therefore, I would definately say that the product is very user friendly - even for a beginner like me.

I will be following the Forum threads and will answer as many of your queries as I can however I will have to pass more technical queries over to the technical team. In the meantime though I will ask for your continued patience as we are currently working on the final functionality of the product.

Thanks

Cheryl

I looked at the other thread, ..., but have a question, is this a plug in for poser? By that I mean is this modelling made in poser or made in Metaform abd brought into poser?...what is the process?

Hi The product is a plug-in which is launched from and is dependant on Poser. One clarification is that the first release will be Windows only. As a new, small company we do not have the resources to develop the Product for the Mac platform. However we fully intend to address the possibility of porting the product in the medium term. Is there a website where we can all see more about this?

WeirdJuice ( ) posted Mon, 08 September 2003 at 5:21 PM

The price will be announced once we have a definate release date and feature list. We are still adding functionality to the product so it is impossible to say at the moment. Sixus, we will publicly launch the website at around the same time. As Brian mentioned earlier, we do not want to distract our developers and technical team with emails at the moment. Any questions regarding the product can be fielded through this forum so feel free to ask and we will do our best to answer them. It is late on this side of the pond and I need my beauty sleep so will reply to other posts tomorrow. Goodnight all. Cheryl

Odeathoflife that is the very first animation I was planning on doing but I am not going to be using Judy(Uggghhhhllllllyyyyyy)and I just dont have the time to Morph a new Judy so I will just use what I have...And with me getting Natural pose I am going to see how Metaforms imports as an animation into Bryce?Hahahahaha I hope it works because then we will start to really have fun...And before you say it "But Bryce already has Metaballs"That is great but I was thinking more along the line of the Models you could build and export out with you poser animations...Some just say there is no hope for me,And some times I agree...As Always B3D

Someone should test this plug in's compatability with other bridge plugins such as Reiss Studio.

Odeathoflife: Dodgers dungeon lighting kit at DAZ can do all of that except the smoke. He says he will keep that in mind for future dlk stuff and exspansions.

foleypro ( ) posted Wed, 01 October 2003 at 8:01 PM

Akin and Nornaddict,I am working on the animation and the guys are implementing features to give on the fly EFFECTS like fluids and fire and smoke and they are going to be doing Mat poses and Poses,From what I understand this all will be a one click deal for the effects and of course you will be able to build mostly anything...I am having a new machine built so I am down to using my roommates computer when I can so I have not been able to play as much as I want but I am supposed to have the new computer this weekend... Ratteler...Yes it works superb in Poser4PP and Poser5...

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Thu, 02 October 2003 at 12:56 AM

foleypro ( ) posted Thu, 02 October 2003 at 6:39 AM

Yes Ratteler it will be possible to build a model like this and more then likely better and you will be able to animate any or all parts and with Posers Setup room making all sorts of animateble Characters are going to be possible,Animals,Aliens,Globs,Running water,Flames,Smoke,Partical effects,Name it and it might very well be possible............ You see we are not just playing with Metaballs,We have "METAFORMS" boxes, planes, cones, filaments and more to come,so designing any type of figure is going to be possible BTW excellent job on the modeling....
