Anyone else having this sort of problem, or if so, how did anyone fix it?

I recently upgraded to the Vue 4.2 Beta from the full 4.12 upgrade (in one lump sum. I did the 4.12 update, then 4.2) and after doing so, have tried to import a few PZ3 scene files that I had previously saved before upgrading. I located the Poser 5 exe file (I'm using P5 with the SR update) and everything seemed fine... except:

Now that I've upgraded, quite a few of my scenes come in missing portions of their bodies. A scene I had with two characters is missing the entire body of the second character and only showing the hair, even though the first character seems to be fine. Other files seem to now missing shins, hands, and the like. This happens whether I load them as a single mesh or not, and in some cases, are missing clothing (or portions of which) that I had placed on them. (See pic for clarification)

I should note that all of these had originally loaded fine in 4.11. I've checked and have all the requisite (poser, poser 4 and poser 5) dll's in my Vue directory, as well as the Vue.rsr... Is this a problem anyone else has had and (preferably!) fixed? If so, how? Or is my best bet to say heck with it for now, reinstall and reupdate to 4.12 and stay there?

And this is the way it should have looked (the character, not the trees and such.) This is from a much earlier picture, and I believe it was actually exported to Bryce in OBJ format, but it was from the exact same PZ3. You should be able to see the clothing as it appears here, which didn't import correctly.

And as I said, it's not always clothing. Sometimes it's just portions of the body mesh itself, or the whole body that doesn't import.

Create a new model and import it. Are you using Poser Pro Pack? Some old files seems not to import properly into 4.2, it seems that's a question of Poser's multi frame system. In Vue, you must click "import single frame from Poser animation" when asked for. There are several threads about that here in the Forum. http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=1435269 and others... Guitta

Can someone explain over the dll's of Poser, in Vue directory, please? What dll' precisely? My Poser has many dll's. I did not know that this was necessary.

Nothing to explain. You should find in your Vue 4.2 folder these files: Poser4.dll Poser5.dll Poser.dll if you use Poser 4, Poser 5 and maybe Poser 3 That's all.

Gebe, No, actually, I used Poser 4 (upgraded, I think, to 4.03) before I started using Poser 5. I guess I should have said that I'm using XP, as well. I will check out the other links and such and see if those help, as well... but so far as I know, I've never gotten a message asking about single frame or animation. These are static PZ3's, and when I import them in 4.2, the only notice I receive is something about importing models as single meshes. If older models tend to be a problem, should I attempt to load the pz3's in Poser and re-save them, to see if that helps?

I notice, also, that with a lot of my presaved PZ3's, Vue has 'forgotten' the texture pathways, as well, and asks me to find the proper texture files. This could be because when I originally set up Vue, I pointed it toward a Poser 4 exe, and now I have pointed it toward my Poser 5 exe file. (I've saved my Poser 4 runtime directory to use with Poser 5, so maybe the directory structure is what's causing difficulty with that. Maybe I should reinstall P4 and upgrade it, and then point Vue to it. I really don't know.)

OK, Vue doesn't ask for a single file if you don't have Mover 4. My mistake. Yes, just try to create a new Poser figure, dressed, and imprt it. Vue finds the textures, bums and trasparencies automaticallyn except if you have changed directory of your Poser software, loaded figure or so.

Okay, little update. A couple of those files in which it couldn't find textures? I opened Poser 5, opened the PZ3's and resaved them, and Vue found the textures, no problem. I have to go to work now, but when I get home tonight, I'll try to do the same thing with files that were missing meshes (like the one above,) and keep you all informed. Here's to hoping that was the problem... I think i can deal with opening and resaving all of those in P5. Thanks for your help, too, gebe!

Success! After opening the PZ3 in Poser 5 and resaving, it seemed to 'reset' everything so that Vue could understand it, including mesh directories and texture directories. So that's apparently my problem, if I'm gonna import a pz3 to Vue, I'll need to open Poser first and resave it. Not a big deal, since I usually tweak my PZ3's first before saving them. Thanks for all your help, people!

I had that disappearing thing happening too. I think I just imported as a group and then parts weren't missing anymore. I wrote to the help knowledge base Steve Bell and he said, not quite in these words, "oh well just split the things afterwards if you want to see what they are." He didn't sound particularly worried about the problem but perhaps because he thought it was just the one model that I had that was doing this. Love esther
