I let the poor gal get an easy death, the sudden one. thereofre no black spots on her. I've changed POV, I put up a "Bill of Mortality" that was printed 1665. I still think the title of the image will be "Bring out your Dead". There is of course another title lurkin' "Hey, stop. Here's another one". Not a whole lot more to add; except hairs and fur and ground are postworked in PS.

Erlik ( ) posted Sun, 21 September 2003 at 12:24 PM

Hey, I like the POV better. The water is great. But I'm still bugged by the trousers and shirt on the lantern bearer. Too flat. And the rats can hardly be seen against the background.

laffing a bit about the rats... That was the reason I made them light brown. l Dark brown/black does create that problem. Do you have a hint as of how I can solve it? And; you're right about the textiles! In fact, making textiles with Bryce mats would be a wish for a future challenge! As of this point I think I'll have to resort to postwork. The image consists of two full renders (I made the watery ground with an extra terrain, and rendered the whole image twice. Once with the extra terrain and once without. so that was 2 x 7.5 hours!!!) Hmm.... let me play with Photoshop a bit. :) Thanks for the input!

Hm... the trouser looks like from being bought yesterday. Couldn't you try something that looks more medieval? Sorry for being so destructive...

brittmccary ( ) posted Sun, 21 September 2003 at 3:27 PM

Well, you said it yourself... And I agree. that was not a very constructive way of responding to my honest question. Do you have any suggestions?

derjimi ( ) posted Sun, 21 September 2003 at 3:57 PM

Yeah... try to find some trousers which do not look so "fitting" like these... Like a pirate trouser or so. Sorry that I can't help more. J.

My response was not meant for you. :( I wrote that while you were responding, I think. Just got a tad more than just a little frustrated! :(

Unfortunately there aren't much clothing awailable for the "poser kids" :( The ones I've used are made by Serge Marck. Of course I could TRY to model some (and at least a lot cheaper than buying stuff for this challenge) ; but I'm afraid that would look even worse than the ones that are awailable... and also outside the scope of the challenge, which is Bryce. :) So; the fason of the pants will either have to be as is, or it has to be highly posworked. (which I also feel is outside the scope of the challenge). But; the reason that I actually felt that OK, - this will have to slide, and it's OK to let that slide is that when it comes to clothing - there has never been a lot of artist (during history) that has been very correct. During the renessaince the biblical figures were very often pictured with renessainse clothing. And to be honest with you; I'm not quite sure we know how a poor London boy were dressed those hard times. Maybe he even had to wear his mom's sweater as a pair of pants, ;) Also; I do have something other on my mind here. Look at the number of admissions in the challenge arena. VERY few. To be honest, I thought about just skipping the whole challenge after your comments. In fact, I thought about deleting this post. But then I reconsidered; after all; the challenge rules suggests that we DO post WIP as we go; so that it might be a learning experience for more than the person actually posting the WIP. Hmm... I think that's all I can think of.. But I do agree that I've set myself up to be critizised to "death". And I don't think that I'll post a lot more of WIPs ;)

I don't know if you are a member at poser world, but Steve has a set of clothes for vicky mike and the poser kids which he calls peasants. The trousers for the mil boy are tied round the shins with strings. They may be better.

The thing about the rats is that they look light enough from the left, lit, side. I don't know why. They also should be quite visible on that ground if they are black. Pants, pants... Hm. How high is the bump? Raising it might help. Or, try Crosshatched Wood, raise the scale to several hundred times, and leave it just as bump and use a dark brownish-yellowish colour for Diffusion and Ambience. Also, if you want, you can use some kind of looser pants for adults in Poser and scale them down. Uncheck buttocks and thighs on the human figure when exporting.

i like this POV better! and the dirt and water on the street is very real. As for the pants, maybe you could just "tear" them a little in postwork and add a little dirty blotches. JD

amethyss ( ) posted Mon, 22 September 2003 at 11:20 AM

One thing I always wanted to try ....but have not so far for the pants, while in Bryce could you duplicate the legs and then expand them and that would make them look like pants.Longer and textured the way you want. then you couls postwork them a bit...Hope this doesnt sound crazy.I should try it .Hmmmm.

Britt, Derjimi's English is a second language for him I believe and I don't think he meant to sound mean about it. I just felt that needed saying. Your render is coming out excellent! I opted to not even try this month. I couldn't come up with an idea. Please keep yours going. There are many times I get help, but for one reason or another I don't push my image. Its the pushed images that fascinate me and I love seeing people's WIPs evolve. I hope that you don't give up doing Wips in the future either. Your image is really great. Angela

This is much better Britt! I have no crits here.

brittmccary ( ) posted Mon, 22 September 2003 at 8:27 PM

I just want to thank y'all (I'm still working hard on the southern drawl - it's a bit hard to get real sounding, since after all I'm a stranded Norwegian viking here in FL) for your comments. The chin ups - as well as the kicks in the butt are both important! I'll see what I can do with the poor fella's pants. I've been lookin' (and lookin') for that darned poser file, and I'm not sure if I've even saved it after exporting the figures! That sure have taught me a very important lesson! So; it will have to be a postworked pair of pants for the little guy. chohole; Nope, I'm not member there. is it worth while looking into? Erlik Hmm... I'll have another look at those little critters. About the bump... I think that the bump might too hight, - that maybe a more transparent look to them might be better.. like the pants are really worn. I'll see what I can muster. If I choose the transparent route, I'll have to go through another 7.5 hrs of rendering time though. Ack! amethyss .. not sure I got what you meant? What do you mean? Something along the lines of the transparent look? jaydiva's suggestion is good too; to make the legs look torn... I'll be back with 'nother final result! lol Love, Britt

ROFL! My mind is being twisted by imagining what you'd sound like after living in Florida for a few years! Hard to think what a cross between a Floridian drawl and a Scandinavian lilt would sound like. I know I must have some Viking blood being half Irish. My old friend Inga Tandberg says the Irish around Dublin are just a bunch of shipwrecked Vikings! She also says thats where they get their red hair and the "sing-song" lilt to their speech.
