Didn't have much time to work on this today. I got the middle connector piece(s) made up and fitted on today, at least now it'll stay together. Also, made up a diffusion map for the yellow lenses, but you can't see it in this light. AgentSmith

Cool! Bring these images to a designer when you're finished, they would sell for sure.

I'd buy a pair! Really well done AS.

Congratulations! These look HEAVY! Stick dark glass on the front and use them for arc-welding....or is that the idea?

Excellent AS. These could very well be sellable as a design you should think about it. But if you do please don't leave us, you know we'd be lost without you. 8) Catlin

This is coming along great! What makes it great for me is that every screw looks necessary, every piece looks functional. Cool thing, indeed!

Yeah, they look like they would add 5lbs. to your head, lol. One of my original inspirations were welding glasses; http://www.indogem.com/crews/welding.htm And, Linda Hamilton's sunglasses form T2; http://www.videovista.net/gwg/lindahamilton1.jpg Gonna re-draw the arms again today when I get a chance. Thanks for the comments, and if I ever became rich, I would blow it all on buying the Bryce code from Corel. ;o) AS

Those who do their modeling in Bryce have the patience of saints!! I need the "4 pane view" when I am modeling to get placement and proportion anywhere close. These glasses will be mind boggling when done. They do not look overly heavy to me. I have been a welder and welder's goggles are not that heavy.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Wed, 24 September 2003 at 4:27 PM

Ack, can't stand the 4 pane view, lol. Everything is too small. But, then again, my nieces can't stand my 80's music...all depends on what you "grow up" with, I guess. ;o) AS

I remember those glasses from T2! now im going to watch it:) brb.

shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Wed, 24 September 2003 at 6:29 PM

Love the goggles, AS...! They really look awesome, down to the tiny screws/bolts holding them together! Patience in volumes... Viewports are weird, in Bryce I'm totally comfortable with the one-pane method, but in Rhino 4 panes is almost necessary, for matching up points and whatnot. But when I go into Lightwave Layout, I almost always just stick to the one-pane method, although LW is nothing like Bryce...

AgentSmith ( ) posted Wed, 24 September 2003 at 6:37 PM

Yeah, I can definetely see the logic behind four panes, since I'm moving my camera around a lot to set little screw heads around where they are supposed to be, but really when I build in Bryce, especially stuff like this I have all these coordinates and unit sizes written down on paper of where everything is that I'm working on at that point, so I just plug in the numbers where something is supposed to go and that will do 97% of the work for me. anyone who can put this level of detail is missing out by not getting a modelling program..c'mon..join us Wingers (do we have a nickname yet?..;) or whatever, this would look great as a model..heck, I wish I could talk Bambam into doin' his stuff the same way..;)
I could swear I saw these on the 'French' guy in the Disney movie about Atlantis..;) (I have kids, that's why..;)

AgentSmith ( ) posted Wed, 24 September 2003 at 10:52 PM

"Wingers", lol, I like that. I don't have kids, and Atlantis rocked! I'll watch anything animation! (2d or 3D) Yeah, Wings3D is on my "okay, which one should it be that I learn?" list. In fact it may be at the top of the list...it seems it may be the most capable of the freeware modelers, `course I'm not basing that on real facts that I know of, lol, just from what I see being made from it. My free Truespace 3 has some GREAT tools, but that interface! (It's way more confusing to me than Vue) And, I think if I learned Wings3D it would have more in common with say, Rhino 3D, so if I moved to Rhino one day, I would already be primed for it. AS

Btw, I finished re-drawing the arms of the goggles out, and they turned out wicked! I am SO happy with them. Post something up later tonight, after I have them fitted on. AS

I know I'm starting to sound like an advertisement or whatever, but I'm using an old copy of Nose 2.0 I found at Half-Price Books for $30, and AS I'd have to say that it is VERY easy to learn and I'm really progressing with it! I'm almost done modeling my first head!!! There's a free demo at their website, anyone who's using Wings should really check Rhinoceros out, it's ultimately more powerful and actually really easy to use.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 6:45 PM

Nose? Never heard of it, I'll have to check it out. Yeah, Rhino3D is an obvious, great choice I would love to use it, I'm gonna start with Wings3D I believe, and one day, when I can pony up the student enrollment and $200 for Rhino, I most likely will, lol. Unless I just want to lay down $800 for the full thing. ;o) I'll try the Rhino demo, but I want to learn the basics of modeling (in Wings) before I do that, just so I can take a fuller advantage of the demo, instead of learning on it. shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 7:17 PM

Aye, Nose IS Rhino, AgentSmith! The word rhinoceros means "noser-er", and my little brother makes fun of me whenever I'm "playing Nose 2.0". (He prefers Morrowind, of course...) AS, perhaps look around your area for a Half-Price Books. It is very legal, and MUCH cheaper than 800 dollars! (I live by Seattle, there are a few of those stores up here) If you can't find a store like that, perhaps let me know and I could just send you a cheap, store-bought, legal copy of Rhinoceros. Students, and others I'm sure, take software to Half-Price all the time, and I thank them for it! (That's how I got started with Bryce 3D , too!)

pakled ( ) posted Fri, 26 September 2003 at 7:38 PM

hmm..and I thought Rhino was still in the 4-digit range. I just don't think I'm in the 4-digit range as a modeller (I'm the brute-force kind, as opposed to the elegant 'start with a cube' experts..;). The goggles are quality stuff, I see things not this good get sold in the marketplace. Hey, Wings, Anim8tor, Amapi, they're all free. Truespace is off in a world of it's own (strange interface..I should get back to it someday). Ya got the chops..I just think ya could go places with something that's 'exportable'..look forward to more.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Fri, 26 September 2003 at 10:28 PM

Yeah, if I do start producing models, it will be in the sci-fi/fantasy genre, most likely accesories, not clothing, or actual figures, lol, unless it's a robot. Yeah, this traditional modeling thing is killing me, I'm so completely lost/frustrated. I hate this, "start with a cube and low poly, THEN after I'm all finished, I can click some function and then the model will subdivide and smooth (or something like that), and then it will look the way it's really supposed to". I hate all that. But, then again, I have just started to read up on all this, I'm going to be lost for a while.] Bryce was never this hard for me... AS

Aye, you're right about all the "features", AS. One cool thing about Nose is Rapid Prototyping. Meaning, you could actually send the 3dm file to a machine shop, and they could recreate, in steel or any other medium (plastic, wax), the entire model. IF you set it up properly. It's pretty cool. 3D printing! Rhino isn't the only program that works this way, although it's one of the best for doing such things.
