Okay I don't understand something this simple. It says copy and paste into the upload box. What upload box? I tried to paste in the image upload box, but that's not it. Can someone help me with simple instructions because I can't seem to figure it out? Thanks, Bill

You post into the "Notes" box, which accepts text. It is, I agree, confusing.

Thanks for the reply, I just wanted to post an small short story that I wrote about ten years ago "as is". I was thinking about working on it a little but if no one likes it, then I don't see the reason. I am working on editing my second book and getting an agent, so I really don't have a lot of time. Thanks again, Bill

If you would like, feel free to post the story on the forum if you would like to get some additional feedback and you don't feel it is quite ready for the gallery. Congratulations on your second book. Editing is hard work. I hope you keep us posted on your progress...a lot of us have no idea how to get an agent so your experience would be of great interest to us.

Glad to see you managed to post your story;I liked it very much but couldn't add a comment.

Attached Link: His Choice

That's a bummer...it is too bad there isn't a place to put a comment. There are many good things about the story...I have to admit I have a weakness for stories that give a twist at the end (O. Henry and the Twilght Zone are favorites of mine). I'm glad you were able to post it. I've provided the link below.

Actually, the link is above my message. Sigh. I always forget where it actually posts. Sigh. Still, defintely worth taking a look at.

Thanks for all the kind words. As for the twist at the end, I have been dreaming up short stories for over 30 years (won't give away my age) and always like to add some kind of twist. Thanks again. Bill

Well, unless you are 53, you're not older than I am, and there's nothing wrong with a little maturity when it comes to writing (some people are mature at 20, I know, and some never are--I understand it's not an age thing). I like to add twists too...but it's sometimes tricky to do them so they seem natural to the story.

Sorry, but I got you beat by two years. It was when I was 53 that I decided if I ever wanted to do anything with this lifelong desire to write that I had better get busy. So, I wrote my little non fiction book, used a "book doctor" and then went the POD (print on demand) route. Since I have sold a little under one hundred copies (mostly people buying from amazon.com etc) I decided I would try the go thru an agent, etc. for my mystery novel. My "book doctor" is going to help me with the agent part when I finish all the rewrites, but Stephen King once wrote that he loved the rewrites, but I find them hard to do and I am dragging my foot on it. Bill

Be sure to let us know when you are published. I love a good mystery. :) I'm not much on rewrites either. I have two novels molding for want of editing. I'm glad you are hanging in there. It's easy to get discouraged. But getting published will make it worth the wait. Could I be nosey enough to ask what the nonfiction book is about?

wayneout ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 7:16 PM

Sure, it is "How To Happily Survive Marriage To A Russian Woman." (my wife is Russian) I have the url for the press release of the book somewhere on my computer. Not a very long book about 180 pages, but after all these years, it feels good to have a book with an actual Library of Congress number. Now if I can just get a agent for my other book which features a female detective. Bill

dialyn ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 7:34 PM

It's not the length of the book that matters but that you actually wrote, finished, and saw it through. Good for you! And I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for your agent search. :)

HI, Just finished reading His Choice. When you said you were a fan of O. Henry I HAD to read it. I grew up hearing O Henry stories read aloud by my Dad - and later reading them myself over and over. He also used to recite some of the poems of Robert W. Service - He gave an especially chilling rendition of "The Cremation of SAm McGee." But, back on topic, you did a very good job in your tale. It was a very good twist at the end as well - very unexpected. Congratulations!
