Subject: Has anyone bought M3 and not used it yet - like me?

SamTherapy ( ) posted Mon, 29 September 2003 at 4:54 PM · edited Wed, 01 January 2025 at 4:03 PM

I bought it (not him, IT) last week so I could take advantage of the reductions DAZ were offering. However, I ain't used the thing yet because I knew there would be teething problems as there were with V3, and I really couldn't be arsed with all that palaver. So at the moment, M3, the morphs and textures are languishing uninstalled on my HD. Anyone else? As an aside, I really don't see what is so controversial about using a universal mesh. After all, we are all cut from the same cloth, so why not Poser people?

I haven't bothered because there are no normal clothing for him to use in my kind of scenes, a shame, he is pretty good. best wishes Jody

MachineClaw ( ) posted Mon, 29 September 2003 at 5:08 PM

hands head very low yes, M3 installs sitting on the HD taking up space and not in the runtime yet. Same reason. "Sale?! oh I can't miss THAT!"

AlteredKitty ( ) posted Mon, 29 September 2003 at 5:13 PM

Same here - I bought him because of the big saving and new I'd want him sooner or later when all the great artists start bringing out their stuff. Also like you, I'm waiting for the updates to be released so I can (hopefully) do a 'clean' install of everything without worrying what's over-writing (or not) the older files. Just hope he's not like a few real guys I've met - mysterious & exciting before you get to know him properly, but a BIG disappointment when you do :) :)

doesn't raise his hand I bought him Saturday, without the morphs, but with texture and Project Z. I did so because of the Sale and extra figure deal. I intened to leave him in storage until more items appeared but I ended up doing a test render to see if the Project Z stuffed looked as good as the promos. I spent the next 5 hours working with the figure. I have to say I like the job DAZ did on him. He looks different enough from mike 2 out of the box and I love that his elbows and knees look almost normal when you bend them.

TheWanderer ( ) posted Mon, 29 September 2003 at 5:16 PM

Hi Yes I did the same as you Sam tho' I only got the main mesh the morphs and textures will come later I suppose. I was umming and ahh ing (will i use him or not? but then I got the idea I'd like to have a go at my own version of 'forever autumn' (I was too late for the challenge) but like you I need everyday clothes such as an overcoat trousers & shoes. What finaly convinced me however was Daz's clever marketing with the mystery model. BTW the only figs I've got are the original poser people and the lo res versions which is the reason I went for V3 and M3 Have fun Dave

Holds both hands up...! Meee toooo....! Actually.... I tried and tried and tried to resist... basically 'cos I couldn't afford him. But... sad person that I am... I finally lost my bottle last night and bought him 'cos... I don't want to miss out on the Mystery model, which... like M3 will probably never get used anyway. LOL I think we should have a 'Who Has Bought the Most Figures from DAZ but NEVER Ever used Them' competition. I have all sorts of stuff... I have various figures, critters, fairy wings and textures coming out my ars... oops... ears... that haven't even been installed yet. ziggie

Zig, I hear ya! I bought a whole slew of animal models months ago, and I haven't even installed 'em. By the way, buddy, where do you live? I believe I owe you a pint.

I'm actually waiting for some sort of free or real cheap barbarian-type clothing (like the Beastmasters from DAZ) before I use him. I do think he'll be useful once more FREE stuff comes out for him, but we can't expect that until we get the updates from DAZ anyway. No complaints here though, I'm sure he won't go to waste. :) SnowS

I bought him so Dork would have someone to slap around. Until the M3 morphs kick in, that is.

im not alone!!!! this is great! : )) i like the comment on the universil model, why cant they just improve the body and keep it m2 compatible and change the head as they did?...too logical. : )

mamba-negra ( ) posted Mon, 29 September 2003 at 7:38 PM

You know, I almost never did that until the platinum club. Now, it's mostly due to overload (too many good things at once). Since the PC, I've had to periodically go through and search to remember if I really had bought a few things (or passed them up....) I admit to having really done nothing with him, but then again, I haven't actually put together a scene in poser with a person since I bought him (except for playing with the new toy and doing quick test renders!) eric

xoconostle ( ) posted Mon, 29 September 2003 at 7:43 PM

Many people asked for something different from M2. I remember seeing quite a few requests for pretty much what M3 is, aesthetically, which is why it initially surprised me that there were so many complaints within a couple of days of the release. But then, we are a large and diverse community, so there's never going to be a humanoid mesh that pleases everyone. I think it'll turn out the same as V3 did. That is, people will find a niche for their M3 and use it accordingly. I bought the Apatosaur from DAZ, and I love it. That was months ago. I still love it, and I still haven't done a render with it. One o'these days...

Marque ( ) posted Mon, 29 September 2003 at 7:46 PM

I'm using him and am very pleased with him. And he does have regular clothes. I hardly ever use V2 anymore, and I think it's going to be the same pretty much with M2. Don't know why you guys don't like him. Marque

Arendar ( ) posted Mon, 29 September 2003 at 7:46 PM

Yep, I finally caved in and got M3. Haven't installed him yet though; waiting for the M3 SR1 patch for that to happen. Basically I got M3 now as I really wanted the free "mystery" model instead (due in November 2003), which appears to be a unimesh-based "hulk-like" character. I'm putting my (blind) faith in DAZ that this new mystery model will be a "real man" (e.g. bodybuilder/barbarian-type character)and not suck like the existing, rather wimpy-looking (pre SR1) M3. Sad, huh? ;-p

I bought him the week he came out... didn't start using him until this weekend. Pretty happy so far... especially with the vampire outfit from RuntimeDNA and the Rogue Archer outfit from DAZ. This is my latest M3 pic... not too shabby!

Marque ( ) posted Mon, 29 September 2003 at 7:49 PM

So if a real man is a bodybuilder/barbarian-type character does that mean that any of you men here that don't look like a steriod depositry aren't real men? Just curious. 8^) Marque

Arendar ( ) posted Mon, 29 September 2003 at 8:07 PM

Marque: yep, whaddya think? (ducks, with tongue-firmly-in cheek) ;-P

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Mon, 29 September 2003 at 8:16 PM

Well I used him and stuff but I can definately get in line for the bought but hasn't used category. I think I probably have about 300 things I haven't used. I used to try and make pictures that had stuff in it that I hadn't used but I haven't done that in a while. One of these days I will do a dern render with that Jaquar that I just had to have. maybe I will have him attacking the camel or a rhino that I still haven't used either ...

elektra ( ) posted Mon, 29 September 2003 at 8:56 PM

Sheepishly raises hand Yep. Bought him the week he came out with head morphes (which there are not enough of), body morphes and textures. Then some clothes. The Platinum Club is evil and speaks to me. Oh wait - I said that out loud. I was working on a render with him over the weekend and ran into a snag. Got a suggestion here, and if it works, I may have something to post in a day or so. But, I have to confess, I am like a number of you here. When there's a deal, there's a deal. If I don't use it right away, I figure I will have a use for it. I install it right away, I just don't always get to it right away. There's this pesky work thing that keeps getting in the path of creating......

wdupre ( ) posted Mon, 29 September 2003 at 9:03 PM

well other then product shots I cant say that I've done too much with M3, just too darned busy making real world clothes for him ;-) though I can say that that he is on my screen almost constantly.

randym77 ( ) posted Mon, 29 September 2003 at 9:11 PM

I always install Daz products as soon as they're downloaded. Just to make sure the download was good. I've had a couple of corrupted downloads from them, and at Daz, unlike here, you have a limited time to re-download your purchase if it turns out there was a glitch. Whether I use the item after it's installed is another question, of course. :-)

squid69 ( ) posted Mon, 29 September 2003 at 10:13 PM

Being an avid runtime pack rat I bought M3, morphs, textures, et al. I look forward to using him more, but like many of you, would prefer to see more everyday clothing. I don't like the fact that not all the clothes work for M2M3, and haven't yet discovered a way to apply morphs to the body (same with V3). So for the time being, I will stick to V2 / M2 until more accessories become available.

lynnJonathan ( ) posted Mon, 29 September 2003 at 10:18 PM

Daz would love this. Look people are buying the stuff and not even useing it. No, but really. Chances are you will. Doesn't really matter when you bought it. Buying it early and getting a good deal seems smart to me. It's not like buying food or stuff that breaks or rotts over time.

estherau ( ) posted Mon, 29 September 2003 at 10:49 PM

I'm waiting for the fix, and then I'll use him. So yes, I haven't used him yet. BTW did you see thegreat denim jacket and jeans set for the biker outfit at daz? Love esther

I got him, checked to make sure the file was good, then burned him to CD and deleted him from my hard drive. Not thrilled with all that injection crap, but if I'm gonna have V3 (who was also installed just long enough to make sure she works and then burned to backup and deleted) I might as well have M3. Gonna tell ya though, I won't be getting any other models that use morph injection. Nope, not noway, not nohow. Also won't be USING V3 and M3. Not really sure why I bought them, probably shouldn't have, but there you have it, guess I'm also a pack rat type. Kate (still trying to figure out what she was using for brains when she bought those models)

aleks ( ) posted Tue, 30 September 2003 at 3:01 AM

i won't buy him until someone comes up with everyday clothes or some business suit for normal humans (with all full body morphs that m3 has). but since m2 also doesn't have them, i really doubt that i will ever buy m3. DAZ? YOU LISTENING?? SOME BUSINESS CLOTHES PLEASE (without a pillow under the shoulder)!!!

ShadowWind ( ) posted Tue, 30 September 2003 at 3:11 AM

I bought M3 on the last day of the sale, but like many above probably won't install him right away. I just bought the main base and the morphs. I want to get the M2/M3 plugins for the Universal Texture Creator so that I can convert the M2 textures that I bought to him. Also, hoping that Capsces does her magic with the morphs for him.

I really need Dazaholics Anonymous.

I just don't understand why people are whining about Real Life clothes. Both the cowboy set and the Biker set can easily be retextured to function as Real Life clothes. And then, of course, there is PoserWorld, where Steve has been busy churning out ORDINARY, GREAT OUTFITS for M3 :o) Yes I bought M3 and the morphs and textures the day he was released and I've been playing almost exclusively with him ever since! He's great :o) But I know all about buying stuff you never use L I bought the Hippocampus some time ago becourse I'd always WANTED the hipppocampus... But I haven't even tried rendering it yet LOL

RHaseltine ( ) posted Tue, 30 September 2003 at 6:40 AM

True, Trekkie, but most of those lack morphs (or just have the musculars 1-3 and stocky) and are casual, rather than formal/neat. Anyway, "easily textured" assumes a minimum level of competence which escapes amny of us ... (and I'm leaving that typo as an example).

aleks ( ) posted Tue, 30 September 2003 at 7:26 AM

correct. i have deep respect for steve, but his clothes just don't cut it. i have high quality human model, high quality textures but the clothes aren't that good (not only steve's) for mike if you wnat to do an business illustration. i would like to see just the quality of clothes that v3 has.

RHaseltine ( ) posted Tue, 30 September 2003 at 9:00 AM

Well, I wasn't faulting the quality of Steve's models (and I wouldn't trust my judgement even if I wanted to), just saying they don't yet cover all situations.

Caly ( ) posted Tue, 30 September 2003 at 9:24 AM

I have used M3 though he did sit for awhile. I have tons of stuff that has just been sitting, installed, but waiting. I need more time... Plus my computer is old and slow. I hate my job it takes away from Poser. :D At least it pays for Poser stuff... The cowboy set blue jeans are terriffic and very 'real-life'. It is actually easy to fake textures. Put in any color then use other textures as bump maps. You can get interesting results.

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Tue, 30 September 2003 at 10:58 AM

aleks, what are you looking for business wear for M2 that you say Daz doesn't have it? They have had stuff for business wear for a while to my knowledge.

aleks ( ) posted Tue, 30 September 2003 at 12:23 PM

you are right, but it looks really... ummm... average, to say the best. no morphs (well, three: close, right and left pocket) and shoulders look like it was meant for playing rolerball. i just want an average guy in business suit and not a body builder.

Patricia ( ) posted Tue, 30 September 2003 at 12:42 PM

So I'm not alone, huh?!!! I was determined to wait until I heard from other Mac people that DAZ had gotten a handle on the Macintosh file path name character limit. As soon as I did, I practically flew over to DAZ and gave them all my money ;) Then I got too busy to actually install and play with him, so the poor guy's just languishing in a 'New Purchases' file on my desktop until the Real World lays off me for a bit and I can get back to Posering :D

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Tue, 30 September 2003 at 1:03 PM

Well it has to fit over Micahel 2 who has large shoulders :) But yeah, it was built before they started doing morphs for everything. I think there may be a tailored version someplace perhaps but I don't know.
