Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 24 6:22 pm)
It's materials you want to set rather than groups. When you are at the UVmapper stage, select everything and assign a unique material name. I don't use Bryce, but I believe there's a free application which helps out with materials when exporting Poser -> Bryce. Have a search for Grouper in freestuff.
I downloaded Grouper, but it doesn't seem to be able to do what I need. The material for all of the props is still regarded as being the same file, even though I've specified individual textures for each object. And it still appears as a group when ungrouped in bryce. (All OBJ files imported are one object, makes it difficult to texture without creating a new texture map) --Lothaekor
The 'space' in the material names that thing Roy G just mentioned threw me for a long time. I also thought the materials were being combined on export and did not realize that, within Poser, the material names were just being truncated at the first space. Now a global search-and-replace in a word processor quickly takes care of the problem.

Hello, It's been a while since I've had a chance to play around with Poser 4, and hence haven't been around the Renderosity forums for a while, but I seem to have reached a sticking point. Currently, I'm modeling "accessories" in sPatch, exporting to DXF, importing into Poser, exporting to OBJ, using UVMapper to generate a texture map for the OBJ file, and finally importing the OBJ back in and using it. My problem arises when I've got a few different OBJ files attached to the same character. When the figure is exported, all the OBJ files are grouped together into one group. One group means one texture, and as a result, the texture is fine on the object it's meant for, but it messes up all of the others. Is there any way to force Poser 4 to export each imported OBJ file as its own object in a single OBJ file (character and props) without actually going through and exporting each object seperately? (The OBJs require resizing and repositioning otherwise, which is a pain to do in Bryce 5) Any help is much appreciated. Lothaekor
