If mike3 is so versatile people, PROVE IT, every face posted of mike3 looks the same, unless he's butt ugly or a monster..make him look like a man and not vicky..PROVE IT (no external morphs, use him out of the box) Veritas has a legitimate complaint Dave-so no offense but your pirate has the exact face of all the other m3's posted, with the exception of leathery skin, and a bad eye, you did a good job, but mike3's face is very limted Veritas it's not the gay men m3 was made for, he was made for all the women here that wanted a male vicky look alike, a pretty boy, the more he looks like vicky the happier they seem to be (not slamming anyone, click through the galleries, that's a fact) My recomendation is not to purchase m3, this topic is hopeless, this product was a definite step back from mike2, and should have never been called Mike3..calling him mike3 gave you the impression he was a new and improved mike2, which is in no way the case, he's more of a vanessa redgrave on steroids

I like Mike3. There is a lot of potential in this mesh. He can be the "pretty boy" or a monster or most anything in betwen. These are just some - playing around with the dials to see what is possible - images. I think the potential has barely be uncovered and the future will see more diversity as people really start playing with Mike3. Lynn

Beth- great characters as ALWAYS! I think your first guy looks a lot like Rondo Hatton (see photo link near top of this thread. That is also an example of what I am talking about- if Beth did a series of Rondo Hatton, Bela Legosi or Frankenstein characters (which she already does with her Boris characters- (I own EM ALL and LOVE EM!) that isn't going to send Hollywood lawyers running to her house with law suits. They are LOOK-A-LIKES and no threat to the Karloff, Legosi or Hatton estates, etc. ****************************************** Doug- Again, I'm not a copyright expert (where's Cooler with his opinion?) but I still think doing caractures of PAST Hollywood Stars (like from the 30's-40"s) wouldn't really rattle anyone's cage. The "Thunderball" deal was again an issue of a huge, on-going money-making James Bond franchise- like Star Wars, etc. But I think that Sean Connery (who's name is mentioned in the Borus stuff) would feel its a legitimate "caracture" and certainly no threat to Connery or the James Bond franchise. ****************************************** dirk5027- that's kind of what I think too. I have actually no problem with GAY MIKE characters, its really to do with how M3 seems to come out of the box and how it seems to actually appear- as a FEMININE male character. It seems that DAZ already did this with V3 MALE! Face-wise they are just about identical. And body-wise its clear that M3 comes from a FEMALE source. Most people can see that. DAZ would have been a lot smarter, In my opinion, to release M3 as a TRUE MIKE (M2 UPGRADE) with the morphing options to make hime more FEMININE- In other words- an M3 Female! Or maybe an M3 Stephanie character! This would have made EVERYONE happy and still given everyone tons of character and morphing options that are inherent in the (hopefully) improved M3 MESH. I think its like Coca Cola messing with their own successful formula and irritating their customer base by changing the taste. Why do that, when you can instead come out with SPRITE, FRESCA, MOUNTAIN DEW, Etc. as additional products? DAZ should have stuck with Mike 3 original taste Coca Cola and then offered an M3 Stephanie that could do all the feminine Male looks that anyone could ever want!

I'm fascinated. You guys seem to really think there is just one way for a guy to look to be a "real" man. I guess you think Vicky looks like a "real" woman and the rest of us are just aberrations? Pardon me while I go off laughing. You all need to get away from your computers more and look at real people. I don't mean ripping off someone else's image but getting out on the street and seeing what real people actually look like. I haven't ever seen a Vicky strolling around in my neighborhood. I have seen a couple of Mike 3's, to tell you the truth. Truth is you can manipulate Vicky and Mike into real people if you want, but I get the growing feeling that's not really what people here want...they just want carbon copies of someone else's face or creative work. Doesn't say much for any of us as artists if all we can do is replicate what has already been done. Or maybe it says it all that duplication of what already existed is what we are striving for.

dialyn...i create my own unique faces (check gallery), which is why i keep complaining, hopefully beth will have a boris for mike3, and i'll be happy, the face is just to limited..very limited as a human anyway dalinise..he's a hoot, is he a good guy or bad guy?? he's great

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Thu, 02 October 2003 at 8:29 AM

Dirk . are you forgetting my dial spin that you liked? He wasn't a monster, he wasn't ugly etc ... It is possible. Really ..

elizabyte ( ) posted Thu, 02 October 2003 at 8:29 AM

Hmm. So all gay men are "pretty" and straight men are... what, ugly? Or mucular? Or something? You boys really, REALLY need to get out more. ;-) bonni

dalinese...awesome. And definitely not just a pretty face. :) You're one of the best, and most original, artists around.

Ghost..help me out a little, i think it's the eyes, just can't get that default look to change much. i am prone to make faces like the link Elizabyte..that's not what I meant by my post, but your post is so cute, i love it.

Caly ( ) posted Thu, 02 October 2003 at 8:41 AM

Bravo Xena, Khrys, & Dialyn! I have certainly never seen a typical Vicky walking around my neighborhood. I haven't seen many Mike 2s either. I have seen many Mike 3s though. Many of the posts here are literally dripping with phobia and though I am a woman, I find them offensive. M3 is flat-out technologically superior to Mike 2. He has great versatility and morph capability. He also has barely been out- it takes time to really play with a character and develop new things. Emphasis on the new- I want uniqueness, not clones of models like Mike 2 or old actors. If you don't like Mike 3 don't buy him. If you bought him and don't like him, Daz will give a refund. It's as simple as that.

Caly.. actually I find this thread humorous and a nice discussion. Veritas' statement about "gay" could be taken wrong, but i'm gay didn't bother me at all. As for my statements, they are all true, but not offensive.

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 02 October 2003 at 9:11 AM

I think he just wants everytone to look at his pic, I didn't bother..lol You are never going to change these people's minds about M3, I figure if they don't want him, don't buy him. I would like to see better, but they can never point me to better, just complain. Marque

I have found that a lot of the morphs for the eyes can be combined to get a good shape. I do have a bunch of custom eye tweaks as well but they won't be out for a few weeks. I don't have Mike here right now but eye slant in the negative is good, Eye lid shallow or heavy can be good, eye round in reverse, a little wrinkle and bags and it is pretty good. The face here is just the standard M3 morphs and I could take it farther but I liked the face pretty well ..

nightfir ( ) posted Thu, 02 October 2003 at 11:36 AM

Hmmm can't use mike in the face room... that sucks. I was playing with a face room tutorial I have not got to the point yet of making the figure. tho I got a couple of good screen caps of freddy... this was a halloween project. Oh damm just looked at a artcle on the net from jch digital designs about daz stuff not being compatable with posers face room. S***t! (There are stories that Curious Labs was asking $30,000 (per figure) to modify the DAZ figures to work in the new Face Room. DAZ felt this was too much and refused.) Oh well. I suppose I'll have to try something different. I wish I knew this before I started. Hmmm I suppose I could switch heads... any ideas on how to do it? I got a ton of old head/face morphs for poser figures ie manfacepack01.zip to manfacepack25.zip I could tinker with.

dirk5027 ( ) posted Thu, 02 October 2003 at 11:52 AM

Marque, i don't give a flying f@ck if you look at that pic or not..that post was for a specific person, not for you anyway

MachineClaw, I'm using a combination of M3's morphs and some I have created.

I do believe M3 has potential, especially in the face. However, this thread makes me wonder if I can create characters that people will like. I guess I'll just keep making them, and hope I end up with enough variety that everyone likes something. :)

dialyn ( ) posted Thu, 02 October 2003 at 12:30 PM

Beth, I think you should ignore this thread and concentrate on doing your own fabulous creations. These are great and really show the potential of the character.

RHaseltine ( ) posted Thu, 02 October 2003 at 12:52 PM

Are they going to be complete face morphs, or part morphs that can be mixed like the exisitng DAZ morphs?

MachineClaw ( ) posted Thu, 02 October 2003 at 1:52 PM

Beth do what you have fun doing. There are many that like your faces and the work that you do. I like what you have shown, very diverse group of character faces that you have there and they look great.

kobaltkween ( ) posted Thu, 02 October 2003 at 2:05 PM

beth- yes! please keep morphing the morphs your morph so well. they're great. actually, i think m3 looks quite inhuman because his face mainly looks like v3 and even fewer real men look like vicky then real women do. the only m3 i've seen look real is ratteler's m3 self portrait. the only non-monster characters i've seen that interest me (so far) are these you've posted. and am i the only one ready to beg and offer tribute in return for a v3 roxanne, as well as an m3 boris? (she says, hopping with impatience)

Oh Beth those are so GREAT!!! I can't WAIT for Boris 2 or whatever his name will be (Er.. I think I am repeating myself here LOL) I want him! NOW NOW NOW!!!

Veritas777 ( ) posted Thu, 02 October 2003 at 4:21 PM

Why is it that Beth can make such $%#@ GREAT M3 characters? If she comes out with these for M3 it would be the SINGLE BEST REASON for buying M3. In the meantime, I'll wait for M3's weird body problems to get fixed with SR-1, SR-2, SR-X. It's actually NOT M3's body that interests me, anyway. And in the meantime, I can use my GREAT Capsces M2 Boris morphs. I am mostly interested in character faces. *************************************** Cooler- Glad you could check in with your legal opinions! Even though I know you are technically right- how do you explain the Mike Bond and Digital Marilyn characters? No one is after them that I am aware of. It seems they are not copyright violations in the way that most people would interpret the law (but I'm not a lawyer). If the copyright law was too tightly interpreted, then Beth's previous characters would be copyright infringements of Frankenstein, Dracula, Rondo Hatton, etc.- because a number of her faces are "based" on those known types of movie Horror Film characters.

cooler ( ) posted Thu, 02 October 2003 at 4:45 PM

Veritas777, The easy answer is that the estates of Ian Fleming & Lee Strasberg simply aren't aware of the Mike Bond & Marilyn models. Just because a copyright violation hasn't been caught & prosecuted doesn't make it any less illegal.

capsces ( ) posted Thu, 02 October 2003 at 5:56 PM

Thanks for the kind words, all. RHaseltine, my morph sets are feature morphs rather than full face morphs, so they can be used with DAZ's. I also include a bunch of facial poses which can be used as is or modified to taste. V3 is on me long list, Cobaltdream. I don't mind you repeating yourself, Ernyoka. It gives me incentive. ;) Beth

RHaseltine ( ) posted Fri, 03 October 2003 at 9:11 AM

Thanks Beth, that's what I was hoping (Boris/Roxanne have been on my must buy for ages - no idea why I haven't actually done so yet as the results always look wonderful).

hrm...funny...made for women and gay men? I agree with some of the others..get out more...most men are butt ugly as you put it.
