Subject: Teaching or Tutorial help wanted

Hi all, i have come to the conclusion and been told by others, that the only way my clothes are ever going to get anywhere is if i learn to do the poser stuff myself. so i have been looking through tutorials to help me learn how to make a peice of clothing poserized. i have tried the nerd3d tutorial on conforming, but i seems to have a very hard time doing it in poser. i do have basic skills as i can take a pair of shoes obj file i made and using a pair of shoes cr2 file, going into p-wizard and making a new conforming figure out of it. but i havent a single clue how to cut things into parts. i also know a tiny bit on bones, which i have played with in the past to do various things. so to make a long boring story short, i am wanting help to learn this stuff. either i can pay someone to do it or if someone can point me in a better direction than where im heading right now. which is no where fast..hehe. the program i use to model with is rhino, i know some things on uv mapping and how to group in there, i also have p-wizard, cr2 editor and know some things in poser for getting clothes to work. please reply thanks bea

You can do the grouping in UVMapper but it is easier to get the Auto Group Editor here at the MP :o) - at least I think so,as you can see the base model's groups with that, so you know where to "cut" :o) PWizard is great for making the cclothes conform after you've grouped it :o)

ahh auto group editor, i was wandering where to find that program. is there like a tutorial that goes with it so i dont get lost? thanks fox, i forgot all about 3dcafe to look for tutorials.

Is anybody here really satisfied with Autogroup? For me Autogroup was not helpfull at all. If cloth is more complicated then a simple t-shirt (very close to the body), all results I got from Autogroup where not usefull for me. I'm mutch faster and much more precise with my 3D-editor, Poser and a good understanding what happens if Poser handles conforming clothing.

There's a tutorial AND a sorta video preview (which made me buy it) and it's really easy to use, ONLY GRIPE is that there are lots of undocumented shortcuts... At least I caouldn't fin it documented LOL , for instance how to zoom, turn and so on. Mouse buttons AND Shift or Ctrl or Alt does different things :o)

Well I'm 90% satisfied with it. It crashes at weird times but all in all it works as I expected it to. And I maust admit that since I have NO idea of where the groups are on different characters, AGE is a godsend :o)

well i cant afford this program right now. i was told some people use uv mapper to cut thier clothes, does anyone know how to do it that way? poser i have tired before, but it was really hard especially not knowing exactly where to cut the clothes. most of the clothes i made are close to the body. my package which well come out soon wasnt made close to the body though as its a princess dress. but i had someone else do that for me at the time. i just know i really need to learn this stuff and i do want to. i have a hard time though learning by tutorial but an easy time learning by what someone is telling me. this is how i learned to model. im a fast learner but unlike many people im not a busy as they are to teach...hehe.

LadyBea. I would strongly recommend picking up the book "Secrets of Figure Creation with Poser 5" by B.L.Render. This book is rapidly becoming my Bible, where Poser is concerned! mike

yeah but i dont use poser5, i use propack. i usually dont like to read software books meant for software i dont have or dislike and poser 5 is one of them. got that program as a present from my sister, installed it and removed it withing one hour. repacked it and shipped it right back to her. guess it was to powerful for my computer system cause it lagged so bad i couldnt even move around in there freely.

You may find my tutorial helpful. It certainly contains the information you require. Its been updated to include Poser 5 info but all the Poser 4 material is still in it.

As far as I know, the things in the book that are Poser 5 specific will work in Pro Pack as well, as both have the Setup Room. I haven't got the book myself - yet. It's certainly on my wishlist for x-mas :o)

FWIW...the service releases MUST be installed with Poser 5. They aren't optional. I think if you installed the service releases, you'd find P5 not only much more stable, but much faster. There was a thread last week, where someone was having trouble with P5 being so slow it was practically unusable. Turned out they only had the first two service releases installed. When they installed SR3, Poser 5 ran more than three times faster (as measured by rendering the same scene under both setups).

thank you phil, right now your page is coming up...page cannot be displayed. maybe to many people in there so i well try again later. i didnt know that the setup room in p5 is like propack. i never got that far in p5 to find out. well she has since sold the software to someone she knows. im not worried about it though, i think i need to learn the program i have now better anyhow. i dont see myself being a true clothing modeler anyway until i learn to do all of it. this includes texturing which im still learning that also. but i can do the basics of it.

Lyrra ( ) posted Sun, 05 October 2003 at 3:36 PM

The p5 Figure creation book is by our member Bloodsong. Its is actually mostly Poser 3 and 4 creation methods .. only a small amount on Poser 5 specific abilities. I highly recomend it.

LadyBea32 ( ) posted Sun, 05 October 2003 at 5:43 PM

ok thanks. im going to try out the tutorial by philC first. if that works for me then i well get the book. i have a hard time learning by most tutorials so i dont want to spend alot of money on things that may not help me. i thank you all for your help, it has been very helpful in getting me to where i need to go to learn all this stuff.

Letterworks ( ) posted Sun, 05 October 2003 at 9:45 PM

LadyBea I have PhilC's CD on figure and clothing creation and it is EXCELLENT! Bloodsong's book is written for P4 with ProPak as musch as for P5, dispite the name. I think P5 was used in the name simply because it was the latest version out at the time. Either (or better yet both!) are essential references. mike

The full title of the book ends ...Poser 5 -- including Poser 3, 4 and Pro Pack. She does an excellent job of covering the different figure setup details in each environment. Excellent book.
