Subject: Who is better: Vicki 2 or Vicki 3?

Mazedog ( ) posted Sun, 12 October 2003 at 11:51 PM · edited Mon, 27 January 2025 at 5:38 AM

I was thinking of buying either Vicki 2 or Vicki 3. If anyone could give me some advice about which one is better I would appricate it. Thanks.

How fast is your computer and what version of Poser do you run? I have both--- Vicki 3 is very lovely and incrediably morphable-- closer to real than ever. However, she takes a lot of computer power especially with Poser 5. I end up working with Mike 2 and Vicki2 of Steph in order to have more people in the scene. If you only want to do portraits or pinups, go for Vicki3, she's gorgeous but high maintenance. Emily YMMV

I have a 2.8Ghz intel with 1 Gig of Ram. I am using poser 4 without the propack. I noticed there is a lot of stuff out there for Vicki 2, and not all that much for Vicki 3, even though Vicki 3 has been out for a while now. Are people still mostly using Vicki 2 and not really supporting Vicki 3?

Porthos ( ) posted Mon, 13 October 2003 at 2:04 AM

Vicky 3 also comes with a V3-V2, which means that she has V2 Body with V3 head, and she can wear V2 Clothing! :)

PS. I have 2.4Ghz Intel 512 Gig Ram and P4 without propack and I have V3 and works very well! :)

I have the same CPU as you but half the ram and she works fine so you should be ok...Steve

Phantast ( ) posted Mon, 13 October 2003 at 4:59 AM

V3 is much better for action poses. She can drink a glass of water without screwing up her elbows, unlike other Poser figures. However, the morph injection system is a pain. You can get a V2 character up and running with less work than V3. V3 dumps even more folders in your overstrained pose directory for all the morph injects and morph removes. So both have their points.

Actually I was going to say just about the same thing as Phantast. I personally like v2 for farther scenes, easier on the comp, less loading time ext ext. But for close ups I much prefer v3 just because the face can be made to look however I dream. So yeah they both are good depending on what you wish to do.

Attached Link: Victoria 2 CD

If you're just getting started, you might want to consider Vicky 2. Vicky 2 has been around much longer, and there is a ton of free and commercial stuff for her. You might consider buying the Victoria 2 CD. You get the following items for $69: Victoria 2.0 Victoria 2.0 Medium Texture Maps (standard res) VictoriaP4female Up-Do Victoria Clothing Pak 1 Victoria Morphing Clothing Pak 1 They also have a Michael 2 CD.

Thanks for all your input. You guys are great. I do have another question though, if you use the V3 to V2 feature, does the V3-V2 figure loose the advanced features of the V3 body (such as more polygons and better joint bending) or does it just realign V3's joints and proportions to be the same size as V2's? Also, if V3-V2 does just convert V3 to the V2 body, does the V2 body have all they body morphs? I notice that V3 doesn't include head or body morphs in the base package. Thanks

Bobbie_Boucher ( ) posted Mon, 13 October 2003 at 9:43 AM

The V3-V2 figure basically gives you Vicky 3's head, on top of Vicky 2's body. That's how you're able to use Vicky 2's clothes. I've never cared for those hybrid characters.

PabloS ( ) posted Mon, 13 October 2003 at 10:26 AM

I don't use the hybrids either but if you're covering V3-V2 with a lot of V2 clothing, you won't see/need a lot V3's advanced body features either. As for V3 clothing availability, I'd say about 90+% of the clothing releases since V3 came out have been for V3. There's also a workaround for getting V2 clothing to fit V3 that has varying levels of success. There's a tut at the DAZ Arcana.

PabloS ( ) posted Mon, 13 October 2003 at 10:27 AM

Oh. The workaround involves using Tailor to transfer morphs to V3 clothing and applying V3's joint paramaters.

Simderella ( ) posted Mon, 13 October 2003 at 11:19 AM

V3 hands down. I have been using V3 since she was released, I couldn't go back to V2, she looks freakish and very akward, she always looks the same and suffers from 'V2 Lip' as i call it, people do seem to love giving her very bizarre ugly lips.. lol, and her body is ok but not a patch on V3. There is lots and lots of stuff for V3. I have 256RD ram, 1700, Pentium 4, using Propack, I have never had any problems with loading V3 or all her morphs, I haven't noticed her being slow at all. So... hehe.. i recommend V3!! -SimderZ-

V3 hands down. Laurie

Mazedog ( ) posted Mon, 13 October 2003 at 11:28 PM

Thanks for all the advice. I decided to go with Vicki 3, and while I was at Daz, I joined the Platinum club so I could use the 30% off thing and got a bunch of V3 stuff, and even Michael 3, since he was on sale. Thanks again, Mazedog

LaurieA ( ) posted Mon, 13 October 2003 at 11:49 PM

Ya won't be sorry ;o). So much great stuff in the Platinum Club - just LaurieS' textures alone are worth the price of the subscription IMHO ;o). Laurie
