MayaDoll has been interesting but I haven't tried using her before now. However Maya's new Anime Doll Kit is EXACTLY what I was hoping someone would eventually do- create a full Anime Character Kit. HATS OFF to StudioMaya for this excellent new character addition to the Poser world. Also History Tip 'O The Hat to: Toom Woof the original Manga Babe, what a HOTTIE but only a start. Motsura- His characters were already great Manga characters but it took Koshini to make his original work better known. (By the way, be sure to get "CRIMSON" the new Five-Fingered Koshini!) Snow Sultan- for really researching and bringing the Z-Toon concept to everyone's attention, and then writing excellent how-to tutorials.

---And he WASN'T the original manga babe, he MADE the original free downloadable Manga 3D model that created a growing interest in these types of characters in the 3D modeling world- particularly Poser users. (I still have my original Manga Babe in the Veritas Vault. I go there once and a while to marvel at my original ancient download collection from the previous millenium.)

FishNose, it's not a freebie. You can find it right here in the Renderosity Marketplace. Be sure to check out promo page #3 ... the toon-style renders are fantastic.

FishNose ( ) posted Wed, 15 October 2003 at 3:21 PM

Yes xoc, I found it a while ago lol...which is why I dumped my post about it - I see you crossposted me on this. Thanks anyway :o) :] Fish

This looks amazing. Would love to hear reviews if people use it.

xoconostle ( ) posted Wed, 15 October 2003 at 3:23 PM

That's real-time cross-posting for ya, LOL. Your post still existed when I wrote my response. :-) Anyway, I hope Maya gets lots of sales for this fine-looking character. He certainly deserves them after all the high quality feebies we've been given!

sparrowheart ( ) posted Wed, 15 October 2003 at 3:33 PM

That's the real stuff!!! I agree 100% with xoconostle. Maya's generosity is of a kind not generally seen anymore. This new product, with everything included, is an amazing deal. I'm not even someone who does anime renders, but I want this set! Kimberly

What a coincidence! I had just recently started a thread about something like this (see link). It looks really promising!

SnowSultan ( ) posted Wed, 15 October 2003 at 4:00 PM

Wow, it really does look exceptional. I wish it wasn't as expensive as it is, but you do get a whole lot of stuff in the set and it's about as close as I've seen to real anime in Poser. I look forward to seeing what artists here can do with it and my Z-tooning technique. ;) Thanks for the info, take care. SnowS

All I gotta say about this is WOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWW!!! i'm getting this one right away.

Ask me a question, and I'll give you an answer.

Redfern ( ) posted Wed, 15 October 2003 at 4:24 PM

Yes! YES! YES!!! This is exactly what I've been wanting to see for a couple of years! I too started with Tom Woof's MangaBabe series, starting with his first free version composed of interlocking spheroids. I later got his second series, but I could never properly rig the static meshes in TrueSpace. But this!!! Yes, soon the 3WA's Lovley Angels, Kei and Yuri, will "live" in true Anime style! The "cha-ching!" you will hear later this evening will be MayaX's virtual cash register when I buy his package. Sincerely, Bill

It's on Digital Love Doll's site, another pioneering Japanese website dedicated to Poser- in fact one of the first one's I can remember seeing years ago. (Has there EVER been a BETTER name for a Poser Website?) Anyway- the "beta" of Five Fingered Koshini is free. And, yes, I rushed over to the REN Store immediately to get the Anime Doll Kit. Once I get my new SONY monitor (just delivered) set-up I will report back with lots of Ooohs! Aaaah! and Wooows!

SnowSultan ( ) posted Wed, 15 October 2003 at 6:07 PM

(Has there EVER been a BETTER name for a Poser Website?)<< I actually like "Toshi's Completely Waste of Time" the best of all. :) I think I'm going to have to buy Maya's figure too; might as well since I've spent at least a year trying to duplicate the look without having to make a new model. ;) SnowS

MayaX certainly knew what he was doing when he created this figure! Here's something I whipped up within 5 minutes. SnowSultan's Z-Toon effects? Nope, MayaX provides 3 different light sets to create a quite decent cel shading effect with Poser 4's Cartoon shader. The hair is a series of modular prop "locks" that can be mixed and matched to create a wide variety of hair styles. The body sections, except for the head and hips, do not have any morphs, but boy, does the head ever have them! You can create an incredible range of expressions true to the more popular Anime and Manga styles. The hips? Er, uh, lets just say it contains features that would permit images of a somewhat, ahem, mature nature. I don't regret my purchase at all! Sincerely, Bill

Berserga ( ) posted Wed, 15 October 2003 at 7:40 PM

Looks to me like the eyes are static. Is that the case? If that is true between that and the lack of body morphs I'll have to pass. :( Pity... as the face morphs and hair look fantastic.

Redfern ( ) posted Wed, 15 October 2003 at 8:04 PM

The eyes are props that can be swapped. The iris and pupil sections appear to be disks that sit atop the "white" of the eye. If you click upon the eye white, you get the dials needed for up/down and side-side (by default is "locked"). You have to be careful to what degree you turn the dials or the prop will intersect with the white. You can however also adjust the position of the iris/pupil prop for finer precision, but with those, you must tweak the X, Y and Z dials, both rotation and position to get the effect you want. I suspect someone will create somewhat more conventional eye props at some time, possibly even MayaX himself. Who knows? Sincerely, Bill

Crescent ( ) posted Wed, 15 October 2003 at 8:34 PM

Is that a custom morph job? If so, is there anyway I could get a copy when you're done? I REALLY want male manga characters as well! Thanks! Cres I'm off to buy the mesh, The wonderful mesh of Maya ...

AlleyKatArt ( ) posted Wed, 15 October 2003 at 8:47 PM

Yeah, it is, Crescent. And it'll likely be a product. Dunno yet. Also wanna see if it fits the MayaDoll, too, if the bodies share morphs. If so, I'm gonna be having a fun time with a new MayaDollMale, too!

Berserga ( ) posted Wed, 15 October 2003 at 10:57 PM

Can the eyelid's blink? Could someone post a pic with the pupils posed in something other than default? Pretty please. Khrys that's a nice start on a male morph. You should give the hips a less feminine shape as well. (actually I think your "male" abdomen/hips look better for a gal than the original. :) If you are honna do a male pak as a product (something I'd be quite interested in) You should make some Toriyama-esque muscular bodies to go along with your Bishonen. :D

AlleyKatArt ( ) posted Wed, 15 October 2003 at 11:29 PM

The eyes are kinda hard to pose, right now. Other than that, and wanting a UVS, I'm absolutely in love with this set.

Lyrra ( ) posted Wed, 15 October 2003 at 11:58 PM

Khrys, If the AnimeDoll and the Mayadoll share morphs ... then I already made a MayaDude lol He's in freestuff, along with 4 textures. Not sure how they'd work out on the AnimeDoll ..does she take the MayaDolls textures? Lyrra

AlleyKatArt ( ) posted Thu, 16 October 2003 at 12:12 AM

Lyrra, they don't share morphs. The bodies are the same shape, but the geometries are different. Tailor might be able to transfer the morphs over, but I doubt it. It doesn't like male from female morphs for some reason.

Berserga, yes, the eyes DO blink and they perform that function very well. Of the 40 something morphs loaded into the head, 24 deal with the positioning and shape of the eyes. I've provided a composite to illustrate the most common blinks. MayaX even included the happy "n n" shape popular in the humorous Anime productions and Manga titles. The lower right bust is not actually a blink but a scaling along the "Y" axis. With that along with other tweaks one can create the "sophisicated" ladies. I hope this helps. Sincerely, Bill

Berserga ( ) posted Thu, 16 October 2003 at 9:22 AM

It helps immensly thank you. Well for 22 bucks it's worth the gamble that the community will run with this one like they did Koshini. If the eyes aren't made more posable by somebody maybe I can figure out how to cram Blackeyes in there myself. ^- I've been an anime fan since the late 70s so you can imagine how exciting this is for me. ^^

ah a "man?" after my own tastes. Redfern: "Buy this!!! Yes, soon the 3WA's Lovley Angels, Kei and Yuri, will "live" in true Anime style!" Another Dirty Pair fan! WOW! I got every dirty pair anime on DVD or LD except 005 consopiracy. (and the second 2 flash series) That's cool. Oldschool DP fans are hard to come by these days. Hehe we should start a 'rosity anime club. ^_^

Redfern ( ) posted Thu, 16 October 2003 at 10:42 AM

I guess one can consider me an Anime fan since the mid '60s as I remember (though barely) the first American airings of shows like "Kimba, the White Lion," "Speed Racer," "Prince Planet," "Aqua Boy," and the one that lead the way for all Japanes animated entertainment, "AstroBoy"! I'm glad I could be of some help, Berserga. I just wish I had read your post more closely and included some iris poses. The figure does not come with skin textures since they would not be of benefit when creating a 2D cel shaded effect. But like most other Poser figures, she does have a separate material zone for the lips so one can "paint" them with lipstick. They, like the eyes, can be shaped. You can create one sided smirks, "filled" shaped lips, or a subtle variation on that darling lil' kitten "muzzle" that works so well with the "n n" blink. Actually, I'm surprised there are no "Deedlit" elf ear morphs, though I'm sure creative users will create after-market settings. Sincerely, Bill P.S. There exist the classic 3WA "uniforms" designed for Victoria. I wonder if someone can adjust them for this figure. Xena has listed them as a "to do" for Aiko, but the morph pack has yet to arrive. "DP" rekindled my interest in Anime after a 20+ year dormancy. I've retained my fascination ever since.

Berserga ( ) posted Thu, 16 October 2003 at 11:15 AM

No problem. I've decided to get her (or rather to beg my wife to let me get her. :D been a rough month what with Dazx and Poserworld taking all my $$$. For me it was the sliced up version of Gatchaman that Sandy Frank pro put out in 79. could never get the style out of my head after that. Technically I'm part of the "Robotech generation" of the 80s cuz it was that show that made me a fan for life and got me interested in making my own animation. I was gonna tell you about the DP outfits if you didn't know. Getting this back on topic... Isn't there a technique for transplanting heads from one chara onto another body? If so I'd want to put that head on vickie to get access to her clothes... though it would take specific morph settings on the head to make it look decent. The "CLAMP" style sophisticated head morph on one of the previews might look good on Vickie's body.

Redfern ( ) posted Thu, 16 October 2003 at 11:27 AM

Actually, there IS such a technique. I believe the creator of "TenTen" posted a tutorial demonstrating how he (or she) was able to place the "TenTen" head geometry onto different bodies (such as Victoria, Posette and Judy) while both sections retain their respective UV mapping and morph dials. Little Dragon adapted this technique to fuse the head of the Mil' Cat onto Victoria's body, a much more radical example. If you're curious, you can view the last two examples of my gallery. LD has been kind enough to let me beta-test his creation. From what little I comprehend, it's a laborious process requiring an external modeling program to align the vertices at the neck, but it CAN be done. Sincerely, Bill

Redfern ( ) posted Thu, 16 October 2003 at 12:24 PM

Or, you can simply de-select the "visible" attribute for all body parts except the head (and possibly the neck) and "parent" the Anime Doll's head to Victoria's head (which you would turn invisible). You will most probably have a seam, but a clothing article or a dab of postwork (if you are doing stills) will hide that. That way, you retain the morphs. Sincerely, Bill
