Hehe. The funny thing though is when I'm looking at stuff at work I feel embarissed if there's any nudie stuff as people might think I'm looking at porn, so I tend to just look at the forums and not the marketplace at work. I like looking at work as they have a much faster net connection then my slow modem at home. Love esther
I aim to update it about once a month. Â Oh, and it's free!
Please check your facts before blasting the management in the forums. There is an issue with the Nudity filter. All you are seeing is what someone sees when they have the filter on. To fix the issue, log out clear your cache and cookies and log back in. That should fix the problem. It may reoccur. We are working on fixing it. Lyrra "the Them in They" Madril (moderator)
But Lyrra... As it also was mentioned in the debate in the Merchant's forum, lots of people come here only to BUY stuff. They do NOT frequent the forums and they do NOT know what is going on. All they know is that lots of things are suddenly "forbidden". We are not talking visitors here, we're talking recurring customers who just don't use the forums. They won't know that they can simply "log out and log in again" (with or without clearing the cache - something a LOT of people won't even KNOW how to do) I think there should be a (temporary) banner or something on top of the affected pages saying something about how to remedy the situation. Granted this new icon is a tad better than the ugly yellow "DON'T LOOK" sign, but not much. I have only 2 products affected. Texture/character makers will likely have ALL their thumbnails blocked. If it was me I would be steaming mad too.

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
I see direct name-calling in post 9. Isn't that against the TOS?

I think Fishnose made an honest mistake. I also had the same exact initial reaction to those stupid thumbs, but the only difference is I read this thread before I posted my complaint. Also a lot of people feel that if you email a moderator, you will just get a pat answer or excuses. But if you post your grievance in public, you will get more people on your side. (It's called making a big stink) :)
lhiannan, we're all supposed to help Renderosity adhere to its TOS. After all, the mods have said that they have a lot on their plates before and there have been issues with uneven applications of the the TOS. beam

lol how hard is it to just click on the thumbnail? Why get so worked up over it, just because it's art to one might not mean it's art to all. I'm not a prude but then I don't miss it if I don't see it either. There is a lot more to get upset about in the world right now than a few thumbnails. 8^) Marque
"Please check your facts before blasting the management in the forums." As an aside, perhaps an e-mail sent to members would be in order whenever a glitch like this happens? Not trying to take any sides here, but instead of requiring everyone to go looking up specific problems and solutions, perhaps both management and members can meet each other halfway on matters that affect everyone? Just a thought... /P
Marque, we are talking about marketplace thumbs here, not gallery ones. In the MP, thumbs are very important if you want to attract the casual browser to your product. If I, as a customer, not a vendor, look through through pages of MP and a thumb catches my eye, THEN I will look further and maybe purchase the product. If I just see "Theolinda for V3" and an ugly icon, I will pass on by, and the vendor has lost a possible sale. I started a similar thread a few days ago through a similar misunderstanding to that of FishNose - that time the offending icons were yellow, now they are silver. It's not a hard mistake to make. Pzrite had the same reaction.
Very easy to blow like FishNose did, It about gave me a heart attack. But I was working on the why, and Posted a why when someone told me last week. I knew it wasn't a nudity rule thing, cause all my pictures were in my profile, but not showing in my gallery. but thats no reason post 9 should call him a ass and that he should leave. I think enough has been said.
Love is Grandchildren.
ryamka Your attack on FishNose is unwarranted and I really hope you retract it. A LOT of people were and are pissed about the new nudity image many who do NOT know what it is for and assume it's showing on everything including those who have nudity allowable. and honestly you have no right to tell anyone to leave.
If it is entirely within the rights of people to blowup at every little thing around here (and yes this was little) then I am completely within my rights. I am sorry. This place is too full of shoot first ask questions later. A bunch of "I sorry" after the fact does nothing to improve anything. People should try asking questions first before they go ballistic. And, for the record, this place is NOT a democracy. It is a somewhat benevolent dictatorship founded on a bit of capitalism. The mods/owners here manage to do things every now and then that "stir the pot" which sets everybody off, only to somehow calm down a few days later. The simple fact is, if you don't like things, suggest improvements/ask questions/GET THE FACTS. If changes that you do not like occur, get used to them or leave. It IS as simple as that. If enough people leave, the mods/owners will realize their folly and make change or they will go out of business. Simple economics. A bit honey goes a lot further than piss vinegar. And that was EXACTLY what FishNose came in here spewing. I just responded IN KIND in the SAME MANNER that he/she did. Apologies, maybe to the others in the forum. To FishNose, nope, not yet. Even though he/she has apologized, common decency and courtesy would have kept this from happening in the first place. He/she could just have easily posted the question here asking what was going on. A fair and quick response would have been the reply.
Fish apologized and that should be that. At least he didn't immediately take all his things and run off like so many others have done before when they don't like something here. His initial post is pretty harsh, but I don't think it deserved that kind of response either. "If it is entirely within the rights of people to blowup at every little thing around here (and yes this was little) then I am completely within my rights. " That also gives everyone else the right to bombard you with nasty responses as well. If we all followed that example, this place would be an absolute insane asylum. Lyrra answered the question before your first post, and that should have ended it. Do us a favor Fish, don't leave. :) SnowS

I do not speak as a representative of DAZ, I speak only as a long-time member here. Be nice (and quit lying about DAZ) and I'll be nice too.
"A bit honey goes a lot further than piss vinegar. And that was EXACTLY what FishNose came in here spewing. I just responded IN KIND in the SAME MANNER that he/she did." For clarifications sake No FishNose came here voicing his opinion on the recent change. which is about how 90% of the posts have been made on this matter. YOU however attacked him. So you did not respond IN KIND or in the SAME MANNER.
I just wanted to mention, before the thread is locked, that there may be no
equitable solution for the nudity issue (aside from the recent glitch that requires
relogging). But I recall reading that censorship misunderstandings were involved
with previous site owners leaving. I don't think a nudity-free site would be feasible,
due to loss of sales and clientele, but it would be a shame if the pro-nudity zealots
were to force Renderosity's hand, due to their ceaseless attacks and vituperation.
I would say, let Renderosity have whatever level of nudity the owners can allow,
and try to be more understanding of their viewpoint.
Actually... this site is the truist form of democracy. If we, the users, decide we don't like it... and we all leave... the site goes away. They can't support the site without our revenue... so we do have power. If enough people don't like things... then we splinter and form our own site... oh wait... been there, done that.
LOL! Don't bother with ryamka, people (although I certainly appreciate the support) - I don't mind the name calling, it's mostly amusing. I've already apologised, this thing is of the past, let's get on with Poser! And boy it would take a LOT to get me to take my stuff and push off! :o) I don't push easy. ----------------------------------- Some history: The reason I react strongly (sometimes incorrectly! lol) to anything I perceive as censorship is: I grew up in South Africa under the Apartheid regime. In the 60's and 70's. Massive, draconian censorship was the order of the day. Both political, of course, and moral. The SA State Church (Calvinist Protestant) didn't allow TV until 1974 (!!) because, quote, "It is the work of the Devil". In '74 I started my 2 years of forced military service. Being a pacifist was no argument. 5 years in jail was the only alternative. Well I might tend to agree on another level about the Devil thing now that I have access to TV lol, but that's another story. Their standpoint was a 'moral' one, had nothing to do with program quality....... And anything even resembling a nude nipple was STRICTLY forbidden. For instance: ownership of a single issue of something as innocent as a 60's Playboy was a serious offence when I was a teenager.... If found out it put you in a courtroom before a judge, under the 'Indecency Act', scandal, name in newspapers, possibly even a prison sentence..... probably lose your job. Counted out as a pervert and an agent of the Devil. And having a personal relationship with anyone of a different skin colour was totally UNTHINKABLE! But I did that anyway.... which is how I learnt to hate the police. Still have trouble with that even now. So growing up with all that, you get kind of sensitive to anyone imposing their rules on you. Simple :o) :] Fish
You have my sympathy Fish. I haven't lived a censoring regime directly, but my parents did, during the fascist era, and from what I have been told, I am totally scared about censorship - and that's why I fight it. Censorship is amongst the biggest humiliations that mankind can suffer. Prison can deprive you of your physical freedom, but censorship deprives you of your intellectual freedom. Don't really know, what is worse. And many people dont' understand that taking control of what's decent or not, can be just the first step to take control of what's moral or not, of what's admissible or not... just the first step to thoughts slavery. Some people are afraid of pornographers. I don't like and don't support pornography, but I am much more afraid of censors, than I am of pornographers, and if I had to choose one of them between them, I would have no doubt. (apart from the obvious fact that there is no pornographers here on Rosity).
"And think of how many works of art have been lost and mutilated over that time frame at the hands of zealots..." And on that note, a moment of levity. I'm friends with a Classical Studies major, who knows of a "little old lady" museum curator in NYC. This woman has a collection of stone and marble penises (or "penii" if you prefer) which had been chopped off of Greek and Roman statuary during and after the Constantinian era. Her dream is to be able to reunite these unforunate members with their parent bodies. Alas, the poor dear, at the time of this story's telling, had yet to repair any surviving Bobbitted torsos. Bless her heart, one does wish her well. Back on topic, I like the Rosity system the way it is. If one can't take responsibility for (a) the nudity controls, or (b) one's children's Internet surfing, then perhaps Renderosity isn't the place to be. "Disneyfication" of this site, as I think most staff and membership agree, would be an infantilizing and censorial error. Otherwise, I think debates about what types of nudity are appropriate are interesting and valid, if difficult to resolve. Seems to me that the existing TOS are pretty much ideal for striking a balance between "artistic/erotic," and the outright "pornographic." If ALL nudity is offensive to you, what on earth are you doing in the art world? :-)
I just noticed ... the abusive post was deleted, so for those joining this little party late, disregard references to "post number 9," because obviously, dialyn's call for decency (which became post 9 after the deletion) is NOT a TOS violation, LOL. P.S. Ya gotta respect someone who apologizes after temoporarily losing their cool, or whatever. :-)
Can we all be calmer please? This is a sitewide issue. The upper management had been informed. WHat they do and do not choose to put in an email broadcast is beyond any moderators control. All we can do is inform the people in our forum of the issue and help resolve it. I would like to think that most people would contact the management of a site about an issue before doing anything else. and lastly, I am a professional graphic artist ... I detest censorship. Most of the management here are artists as well. The few restrictions we have (torture, sex, underage nudity) are I think, reasonable. Thats as far as we are willing to go in restricting art. As for nudity? pshaw ... chunks of my gallery would dissapear too :) so please everyone, lets just simmer down a bit. no need to get into a hooraw about a small technical problem. Lyrra the Extremely Tired PS My apologies for my lateness on this issue, I've spent the last two days dissecting a 15 year old VW engine
"PS My apologies for my lateness on this issue, I've spent the last two days dissecting a 15 year old VW engine" It must be the nearness of Hallowe'en (and the lateness of the night)... but when I read that, I thought of the "hamster's wheel" Cooler posted at 3dc and wondered about ghosts of long-dead hamsters haunting the VW, frustrated because the parts had rusted and nothing they could do would make them turn again. :sniff: Carolly

Have you seen the latest STUPID idea in the RMP? Any product which shows a 'naked person' (remember we're talking vertices here, NOT picutes of real naked people) has a blank censored thumb!! It says Content Advisory or some such. Geez, I've been a member here since before it was even called Renderosity. And for the first time I am really, really angry at the people who run this place. I do NOT like to be treated like a small child! I do NOT like censorship where it is totally irrelevant and plain ridiculous. I hate, hate it when others impose their stupid ideas about what is right on me. If this is what the US and everything based on/in the US is coming to, well I don't know.... The religious right and their Victorian attitudes make me PUKE. How on EARTH did the powers here at Rosity come to this conclusion - that this is necessary? Is this place frequented by preschool children who think that a picture of an auntie without clothes on, (hee hee!) is all peculiar? And LOOK! She's got a - tee hee! Ooh dirty! I have, regretfully, spent a couple of thousand dollars here..... maybe I should go away, look elsewhere. Places I get treated with respect. Not get treated like an idiot. I am very, very disappointed. :] Fish
