For those of you who are Daz Platinum Club members, DAZ has put up a poll to see which apps users would like to have plug-ins for. I'd like to see Bryce #1 ;-) Best; Dan

I voted for Bryce and it is only at ten percent. Come on everybody. Please vote for a bryce plugin at the daz forum. :)

I'm not sure what DAZ Studio is. Is it Poser? Is it a new, DAZ-based application? Shouldn't it just be a "DAZ-Lab" inside of Bryce, instead?!?!? (grins) I tried to check it out, but apparently I don't spend enough money on those guys to be of any import.

Yup, it's a DAZ's posing program. The core program will be free and various plugs and exporters will be sold.

It's up to 13% with my vote!

catlin_mc ( ) posted Sun, 26 October 2003 at 1:10 PM

Well Bryce has had 19 folk vote for it which is the same as Lightwave and Cinema 4D. It's still only 13% though and Vue is in the lead with 31%. Catlin

I also responded to the thread and gave them the link to the save Bryce petition. You never know we may get some folk who don't actually use Bryce to help in the crusade. 8) It's worth a try. Catlin

Well, I'm only in the cardboard membership..;)if only Platinum members can vote, you're gonna get the hardcore Poser users, and they sometimes don't remember us other packages. If I could vote for it, believe me, I would.

Problem is: BRYCE has NO plugin architecture and the software structur is so complex that you can NOT implement it the easy way. That was discussed for a newer Bryce. So how to do it if a plugin for Bryce is not working? The only thing that could work is a OBP export from DAZ Studio. That was something I asked for Poser 4 long ago the time curious labs was founded. Thomas

shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Mon, 27 October 2003 at 6:36 PM

Aye, I agree with Wombat, but more from an experiential point of view. Bryce has NO plugin architecture, and since it doesn't support morphing, it would be pointless to make a "Character Lab" for Bryce 5. Vic-versa, it would be silly to add-in Bryce support for DAZ studio! Still, whatever works, it seems that Vue has gained the winning edge because their manufacturers actually care about the users. The same can not be said of Corel, at least as a corporate entity. Who knows how hard the Bryce-makers ranted and raved when they got smoked, so I won't bother pointing a finger at them... Hope not ALL of them ended up on the Vue team...

Wombat ( ) posted Tue, 28 October 2003 at 8:43 PM

Problem is not that Corel doesn't care. Problem is that the costs for a new Bryce are extreme high. The original code is really ugly...many dirty tricks. Really not easy work with. So Corel decided that the program needs a rewrite in near all parts. Big bad bastard is that you have to be sure that all old textures have to be functional, all scenes can be loaded and all renderings look the same as in the version before. That is really not easy. Never forget that The original Bryce creator had only a Mac Version and then the Metaguys converted it themself. So it is actually much easier to work on the Mac Code as on the Win Code of Bryce. I'm not sure but I think one said longer ago that Bryce included a kind of Mac to Win converter for some parts. So you can imagine how complicated the work will be. You can be sure that the Bryce Productmanager was near to tears the moment they decided to put the project on hold. Thomas Ex-Bryce-Betatester
