Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 23 1:20 pm)
here's what i've learned: if i import a character w/o using the morphs-as-character type option, what i end up with is your basic m3 or v3. do the arms and legs bend right? yes. does it look like the character i imported? no. and does the rigger create the ik chains/parent the bones properly? no. grrr... how frustrating. bump!
I was seriously considering buying this plugin for my OSX seat of lightwave..... Pass!! :-(
Make sure you have v1.5 or 1.6 of the plugins. new updates have better handling of the morphs which were problems for the V3 model and certain morphs with V2. Check the greenbriar studios site and info there and email them. They are nice people and could better help and handle this. It has been a topic of discussion, but the plugins supposedly DO work with V3, M3 and Mil figures.
that's what i don't get. the guy does seem like a hell of a guy, but i think he's getting ticked that i have so many questions. but i can't help it. i need the thing to work... and while the manual tells what the options supposedly do, there's no real tutorial. what i need is something like this: "1-- create a new character in poser by spinning the dials. 2-- load that figure into modeler by checking THESE particular options. 3-- rig the character in lightwave using THESE particular options. 4-- see? now the arms can bend properly and the character still looks like your new character." don't not buy this plugin based on my problems. if you have a super high understanding of poser and lw you'll be fine. but if you hae any questions, the manual doesn't really clarify anything, so you'll have to rely on e-mail. in fact, i'm thinking about getting the animation loader too. the guy obviously has talent in programming, but the manual tells what the program can do, without telling you how. the big problem i have is: either i load plain v3 or plain m3 and i can pose them after rigging them manually. the "parent in place" option lets them all get parented but makes the character look like he's had a terrible breakdancing accident. the other option i have is, i can create a new character using morphs in poser and rig it in lw after loading it in modeler. however, whenever i bend the arm, the bones move but the flesh doesn't follow or deform properly. how can i get a morph onto a posable v/3 or m/3 in lightwave? the problem is "create character from morphs", because it does create the character but it won't let them move at all. thanks all!
You can always spin dials and load morphs and export out of poser, back into poser save file, then use the plugin for lightwave on that file then try and rig. I really think the problem is with the morph INJ on V3/M3 and trying to get those right. I don't have the plugin so I might be talkin out of line, but I remember a topic in the Lightwave forum mentioning that. Check the Lightwave forum. The guy that wrote the plugin has many threads and topics about how to use the plugins and how got it all working. Hope that's a little help. Keep us updated, I'm still interested in this plugin cause right now it's the cheapest and only one out there.
Did you try Poser Pro Pack by Curious Labs? One of features should be: LightWave plug-in - Host Poser scene files with animated characters inside Newtek's LightWave I have not tried it. I am very much interested in Poser animation import into Lightwave. My friend told me it (PPP) worked for Cinema 4D.
well, the pro pack is for poser 4, and i'm using 5. poser 5 was labled as "the propack without the plugins". i'm in touch with the author of the plugins right now, and he's walking me through it step by step. so far so good. as soon as i get the hang of it, i'll post some tutorials. some time this month for sure. i hope. maybe. thanks! ren

Hey folks, I have the greenbriar studios lightwave poser plugin. Part of it is working fine, because I can create a character in Poser using v3 or m3, and I can import them into Lightwave's modeler with no problem. They look perfect. However, I then try to rig the character in Lightwave, and that's where the problems start. 1) nothing rigs. not a damned thing. i have to go in and change the skelegons to bones and then parent each one by hand one at a time. 2) after the rigging is done, i try to move a limb, the limb itself is fine, no problem, but the PARENT limb stays put. this happens no matter how i check or uncheck options in the plugin. 3) i can't seem to get a straight answer from gb studio. as far as i'm concerned, either the plugin is broken, or the manual is poorly written, but i'm not getting any answers anywhere. i really NEED to get this learned. learning by trial and error with a jacked up guide is the pits. i'm really beginning to regret this purchase. any help would be severely appreciated. in fact i'll even reply with :) smileys. thanks all! ren
