Subject: Poser to Vue problem

Chinacat ( ) posted Thu, 30 October 2003 at 7:24 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 3:32 PM

Today I ran into something I've never seen before. I imported a Poser figure (v4) and the pose was stripped out, leaving only the default figure. I checked the figure in Poser and it was fine but trying again did the same thing. This has never happened before. Any ideas of why or what I can do to fix this?

What version of Vue do you use? Maybe upgrade to Vue 4.2... Never had this happen to me either. :) Phil

I already have Vue 4.2. ALL the posing was stripped out, including facial expressions.

Was Poser the application, closed when you imported? Sharen

SAMS3D ( ) posted Thu, 30 October 2003 at 8:44 AM

And for sure it was a pz3 file? Sharen

Yes, Poser was closed. I don't have enough memory to have both Poser and Vue open at the same time. And yes it IS a pz3 file.

You say that you don't have much memory. How much do you have? Migth be because of the size of the Poser file e.g Vickie3 figures can get quite big sometimes... Again, I'm just guessing since I've never experienced something similiar myself. Phil

If you don't have much memory you need to make sure that you have a lot of available space on your hard drive so that there is enough virtual memory available for Vue to run correctly. I'm assuming you're using Windows. Make sure your virtual memory is set to adjust size automatically. Once you've made space it's always a good thing to run scandisk and defrag. Also you might want to run a diagnostic on your RAM to make sure you don't have any bad memory cells there. Please note: The defrag routine built into Windows isn't very good. There are a number of 3rd party programs that do a much better job.

Phil, I have 512mb. Enough to run one or the other, but not both at the same time. The figure is vickie (original) in a simple pose, no clothing, no hair, no props, default background color. Grunthor, I have 3gb free on the Poser drive, 2.65 on the Vue. I can make the pz3 available if anyone wants to look at it.

Looks like you are doing everything right. This morning I had problems with my Vue 4, it was pretending to be Vue Pro...very strange, anyway, I rebooted my computer and tried again and all was well. I would suggest you do that, or when do you remember the last time it worked correctly? If you have XP, maybe you should do a system restore back to that date? Sharen

serendipity ( ) posted Thu, 30 October 2003 at 11:14 AM

I haven't had exactly that problem occur before, but I've had other strange ones. Things I tried: (1) closing vue, rebooting computer and re-opening vue helped most times. (2) Also, I've tried saving the poser file under a different name. Not sure why that made a difference, but it did in some instances.

Chinacat ( ) posted Thu, 30 October 2003 at 11:32 AM

Sharen, this was the first time I had it open today. I had posed the figure yesterday and left it for today. So everything has been shut down in between using Poser and trying to import into Vue. It still works correctly with other files...which is what makes this so weird.

SAMS3D ( ) posted Thu, 30 October 2003 at 11:39 AM

Unfortunately I can't offer any help, I just don't know..why Vue works somedays and other days it is ill. I have had that problem, fresh boot and all choas breaks loose, then I reboot and it is working perfect. You should do what serendipity said to do. Rename the pz3 file and see if it helps. Maybe where you are saving it, it may have conflicts with the name. Sharen

On this file did you have any of the parts of the main figure hidden? I've seen that happen on occasion. I don't remember of this was fixed in 4.2, I just know not to hide any poke thru parts, just in case.

It won't take much more memory to allow your macine to accommodate both programs simultaneously. I have 768MB RAM on my P4, and I run both programs at the same time. However, that doesn't happen much, because I usually have to end Poser 5 in order to import into Vue.. So you could get just 256MB additional RAM, and be pretty much OK. Of course more is always better... Norm

If its a static import, check to make sure that the pose in in your first frame. The default static import just grabs what's in the first frame. Best regards, Lynn Fredricks e-on software

Well, I have tried all suggestions and nothing works so I'm just dumping this particular figure as far as importing to Vue goes.
