Can anyone help me with a tutorial on How to do a simple beach? I need to do an angle from the sea looking to shore with small waves breaking on the sand as if in the South Pacific.I am having problems mainly trying to get my terrain to curve and have rounded edges.Any help would be appreciated.arrow1

For waves breaking on the sand have a look in our Backroom-->Tutorials-->User tutorials. To create rounded (curved) edges, clip your terrain (about 6 to 8) in the terrain editor and use the airbrush to add or to dig parts as you like. Use a soft flow. Hope this helps:-) Guitta

Might want to look at Kutter's tutorial on Displacment mapping. It could make the blends between beach and non-beach smoother and more natural. Good luck.

OK, go to my web site at the following address and try out some of these beach planes. http://www.expandingwave.com/freestuff Click on the pics to download. These are Truespace .cob files. They will import into Vue. Just position one of the beach planes in your scene as you would any other object. Then edit the material to give it a sand texture or color as described in some of the tutorials on this site. If these aren't quite what you're looking for in terms of shape, just give me a verbal description and I'll make you something better until we get it to your liking. Well, the problem is that you need a 3D program to make planes like this - one that makes "NURBS" objects. I used Truespace 6.6 for this, and you could download their free trial copy and try it for yourself. (Version 5 of their program has the NURBS implementation as well.) But, sometimes its just easier to ask for help on this Forum. We all try to help each other if we can. Vue is wonderful. But sometimes, for something simple like a single beach as in your scene, its tools are just a little bit complicated.

I have downloaded and applied one of the planes.Do I apply a separate material for the sand and water? arrow1

Yes, that is, you will use your standard Vue water plane and its materials, but you do need to apply some a sand-like material or a sand picture to the beach plane. I've attached a small clip out of a photo of sand I shot this morning. Use the material editor for the beach plane to "Load A Picture" onto the object. (Consult your User Guide.) You may need to halve the tiling resolution of this picture once its applied to the beach plane to spread it evenly over the plane and make it look right. make sure that you've tilted the beach plane down toward the water so that it dips under the water plane.
