I didn`t want to mention this after the fiasco of the other free thing I mentioned which was in a newsletter only for new customers. This one is okay though. It is very nice of dark whisper to make this character.

PapaBlueMarlin ( ) posted Thu, 27 November 2003 at 7:38 PM

Very nice :) Does anyone know which textures she uses?

xantor ( ) posted Thu, 27 November 2003 at 7:42 PM

PapaBluemarlin you can download texture templates as well as the sara figure. I dont know if any other textures are compatible with her

Dale B ( ) posted Thu, 27 November 2003 at 8:00 PM

Her texture wrap is the same as V3's, so at the least I would surmise that there will be a plugin for the UTC that will allow other textures to be used...

ryamka ( ) posted Thu, 27 November 2003 at 8:23 PM

Oh joy... ANOTHER anime/-ini/big t1tted/wasp-stung-my-lip excuse for a character. Yes, it is great of Daz to release this, free, and unheralded. Yes they really DO take good care of us - a point I have made in many posts. But for #@^$-sake, aren't there enough of these out there? So, this is a big YEA! for those who like this kind of stuff, and for the rest of us, it is more crap to view in the galleries!!!! Daz - spend more effort on Daz Studio!

numanoid ( ) posted Thu, 27 November 2003 at 8:35 PM

Mmmmmm...... I fail to see how a free figure made by Dark Whisper is preventing Daz from continuing their efforts on Daz Studio. They are basically hosting a free download of a new figure for you, and if you don't want it, then you don't have to download it. This in no way prevents them from working on Daz Studio or on any of their other work. I think that no matter what it was they were giving away for free, someone would complain about it. Mmmm.... Sitting here wondering when was the last time anybody gave me something for free when it wasn't my birthday or christmas. Mmmm.... Sitting here wondering if I have ever complained because someone gave something away for free.

wasp-stung-my-lip excuse for a character If you look at her nose and lips, I think she looks like a slightly tooned African woman, myself. I don't know why they haven't played up that angle. I think she looks a bit odd in Caucasian textures with the default face, but she looks quite nice with African skin tones. (Although, in pokeydot's pic above, for some reason she looks like a tooned Drew Barrymore to me.) Daz - spend more effort on Daz Studio! It's going to be released in beta next week. DW has been working on Sara completely independently - as far as I know, he has nothing to do with D|S, so this character hasn't been a distraction from D|S at all. Sara doesn't use V3's textures - I already compared the templates. I'm sure there will be a UTC plug-in for this soon enough. (DW didn't give an ETA for it.) Cheers!

This figure is great. IMO there will never be too many new characters. Keep up the very good work steve.

neftis ( ) posted Fri, 28 November 2003 at 12:01 AM

Indeed Sara is very cool, and I use her myself and have a lots of fun with her and her friend Neftoon Gal...I think Poser is changing from those plastic mannequin or realistic like figures. You did a wonderful job Steve:) Hugz from Sweden! I hope people will enjoy the wave of those new poser figures. As for myself, I certainly do:) Still working on the Pal so they can have a male friend as well... Nef

SnowSultan ( ) posted Fri, 28 November 2003 at 12:09 AM

I might not have too much use for Sara, already having Koshini and doing nearly all my work with V3 and M3...but for heaven's sakes, I don't whine about getting a free figure! "Excuse for a character"?! YOU do better then. I think I finally understand why so many former free stuff providers were driven to become merchants. The insane complaining around here recently would drive me to start selling my stuff too...but no one would pay for the sort of things I make. ;) Anyway, thank you for offering this figure freely DW. Ryamka, I hope that you did not know that Sara was not an official DAZ figure and that's why you said what you did. I would hate to think that people here are practically searching for things to complain about now. Take care. SnowS

DW - not criticizing your talent. Not one bit. Your skills more than show through on this project and your others (artwork, etc). I just think that the "market" for this type of character (female/quasi anime/...) has reached a saturation point. I would be a LOT more thrilled, personally, for a MALE version of the character, as Ichiro is about the only thing filling that niche. And before you ask, YES I would pay for it; it does not have to be free. My comment was on the plethora of smilar characters that are in the marketspace (free or otherwise). As I mentioned, it is a VERY generous gift, I just think a bit more variety would be better. All my opinion.

Guess I'll be hated for putting a sara pic in the gallery... oh well go ahead and shoot me. Koshini was cute, but I really like Sara. I'm constantly amazed when people bitch about free items. Sara is a quality figure meant for fun. You're not into it... ignore. It's really quite simple.

dolfijntjes ( ) posted Fri, 28 November 2003 at 2:06 AM

I like her she lookes cute it's so good to see more then only the M3 and V3 people it makes the galleries more alive with all those different images thank you Steve for her!! Ang

c1rcle ( ) posted Fri, 28 November 2003 at 2:24 AM

Am I right in thinking Sara is the first character to have independantly posable toes? If for nothing else DW should be applauded for this innovation. Even tho I'm not too keen on toony type characters Sara is still a great piece of work from one of the best designers around, keep up the good work DW :)

elgyfu ( ) posted Fri, 28 November 2003 at 2:34 AM

She will squeeze into Posette's clothes with a little dial twirling - they seem to conform pretty well.

xantor ( ) posted Fri, 28 November 2003 at 2:35 AM

I wrote in an older topic "some people will complain about anything" some of the remarks on this site prove that.

Thanks Dark Whisper and DAZ!!! Ya gotta love them freebies!

Diandra ( ) posted Fri, 28 November 2003 at 4:36 AM

passing out some cheese to go with all the whine hahaha bonni - you crack me up! Personally, I really like Sara but having worked with her for a while now, I am somewhat bias ;) And I don't think this is saturation point for these types of figures at all. It's all about choice and competition which is always a good thing. Thank goodness we are not all still rendering little miss posette! ;)

Silke ( ) posted Fri, 28 November 2003 at 5:10 AM

"Welcome to the Poser Forum. Would you like to see the whine list?" You know, some people can't afford to buy all the new stuff out there, so to get a new figure - ANY new figure - free, is a great thing for them. And for those of us who can afford to get all the new stuff... it's also great. If it's not something you want - fine, don't get it. But complaining about the style of a freebie figure is nuts. There are many great things out there that are freebies that really don't appeal to me. But you won't hear me say "Just what we needed - another Tank model, like we don't have enough." Someone out there will be looking for exactly that kind of model. Just because I don't need it, doesn't mean no one needs / wants it. Frankly, I am deeply disturbed about this trend to slam anything and everything lately in here. Someone went to all the effort to produce something that a lot of people would like, and to top it all off they give it away free instead of charging for it. They could have. This doesn't deserve slamming. It deserves applauding. Silke

SamTherapy ( ) posted Fri, 28 November 2003 at 5:51 AM

Whether or not I have a use for the model is not the issue, IMO. It's FREE. I'll happily pay for the models I use, and happily download freebies which I may use in the future. DAZ and DW should be applauded for this model, as said by Silke in the above post. And yes, DAZ do pretty much rock.

There can never be -too- many quality character meshes. And just for the heck of it, here's an early stage WIP with the young lass being a free spirit. In Vue, with the Grace Lion hair and RDNA's Freakin Beast...which she seems to fit just fine... ;) BTW Steve, you may want to check her hands. Either I had some kind of corruption in the download, or there is something fishy in her joint parameters. The left hand ring finger mid joint acts as if a point was welded, and generates a lovely spike when you bend that finger around something.

Dale B ( ) posted Fri, 28 November 2003 at 6:06 AM

Oh, and C1rcle? Judy and Don beat her to losing the ol' Poser shovel-foot effect. Of course she's beaten all the DAZ children in that arena (now all we need is for some kind wizard to work out the FBM's and JCM's to get proper torso movement in respiration, and the animators will go nuts), and no other character outside of the P5 base models has that kind of articulation that I've run across...

Dark_Whisper ( ) posted Fri, 28 November 2003 at 6:34 AM

Dale - nice pic... Concerning the hand: I have already picked this up. It seems to have been caused by something done on Daz's side, as my own version is fine. I have an update ready for Daz already. cheers, Steve

Dale B ( ) posted Fri, 28 November 2003 at 7:27 AM

Thanks, Steve! Long way to go, but that's half the fun of it.... And glad it was something easily fixed. I remember the wails before it was discovered that the Netscape smart download feature was corrupting the .obj's in the ZygoteDaz .exe packages...

Marque ( ) posted Fri, 28 November 2003 at 8:11 AM

She is a sweet little chickie but I have to agree it would be nice if she had a male companion...anything in the works? Nice job and thanks again for her! Marque

"I just think that the "market" for this type of character (female/quasi anime/...) has reached a saturation point." I personally think the marketplace is way oversaturated with ubiquitous vicky clones im not a blind DAZ loyalist but it seems to me that this is yet another example of DAZ and its brokerd artists watching closely what the current demand in the user base is and meeting it. Look at how quickly they put out the freak model after myself and others expressed great dissapoinment that M3 did NOT offer the type hulkish figure we wanted to use.

Silke ( ) posted Fri, 28 November 2003 at 9:25 AM

I would be very interested to know what the general male/female user distribution is on Poser. For some reason I think the main poser user body is female. But on the other hand, the main body of model creators - be that clothing, figures or props - seems to be male. While the main body of texture creators seems to be female. I could be completely wrong here, of course. :) But if the above is correct it would explain a few things. User base is mainly female. Modeller base is mainly male. Tex Creator base is mainly female. So the models produced would be predominately female, since the female body will likely appeal more to the (male) modeller base. I'm just hypothesising (sp?), but it really would explain why there are a lot more female, than male figures out there. :) Don't mind me.... I'll go and ponder this some more. Silke

xantor ( ) posted Fri, 28 November 2003 at 9:26 AM

This isn`t a vicky clone. I think the more different characters people make the better so that people wont only be using vicky and koshini and ichiro in their renderings and there will be more variety. So If anyone is wondering if they should make any new female OR male characters then I would just want to say DO IT!

Riddokun ( ) posted Fri, 28 November 2003 at 9:35 AM

Just one post complaining about the free figure and then 3 million posts complaining about the person complaining. So this is the trifecta, I am complaining about the people complaining about the person who complained. He just gave his opinion, sheeeeeeesh, let it go !

Now I'm sure that someone is going to complain about me complaining about the people complaining about the person who complained.............(an excerp from, "The Never Ending Complaint")

Good work on the Sara figure, Steve ! She looks good !
Thank you !

Ah, yes, the Redundant Wah. I have a list of Wahs on my webdiary. Just don't go there if you don't want to deal with another one, because by definition the entire list is a Redundant Wah. Besides, the site is called "Rantings of a Madwoman" for a reason.

Personally, I'm highly amused by the apparent assumption that DAZ's programmers and DAZ's modelers are the same personnel. It's all computer stuff, right? What's the difference. ;)

Torulf ( ) posted Fri, 28 November 2003 at 1:01 PM

I really love Sara and do not thinking the market of (female/quasi anime/...) character has reached a saturation point. But I think its is a sever lack of male quasi anime characters. If you want to build a universe in quasi anime style you have to have lots of characters in the same style and different genders. Is someone known if Sara is working with Mimic?

I don't see what all the fuss is about. She's free and incredibly well done. I must admit that I have avoided the cartoony figures like Koshini, but I may be able to put Sara to good use :) Thanks Dark Whisperer for all your hard work and dedication. It is definitely appreciated ;)

I think she's great. I'm happy Daz and Dark Whisper decided to give her away as my wallet is sorely drained this time of year. I will be adding to my mental wait-and-wish-and-pray list that there could possibly be a male companion figure for her in the future. Note: The above is NOT a complaint... It is a: "I am so happy I'm pleased and hope there is more" statement.

Badco ( ) posted Fri, 28 November 2003 at 5:26 PM

lhiannan, Thanks ! You made me grin ! Male figures and clothing have allways been lacking.
