Too tired to read it all and add my "inciteful" comments. I've been too busy working on my creation. For those at work, there is an easy solution i.e. there are lots of freeware apps out there that will let you hit a hotkey and start the screensaver or whatever. They used to call them "Boss Keys." You hit it when the boss appeared and it popped up a phony spreadsheet. Of course, a nosy boss might grab the mouse to show you something and there are all those nasty minimized smut windows on the taskbar. No More! Created with quality components scrounged from the World Wide Web, CoverUp sits in the system tray until you hit the hotkey combination selected and then starts the screensaver OR... In RendoSmutKill mode, it will instantly close any Internet Explorer windows open to Renderosity.com! That's right, nude babies, buck naked Vickies, salacious tongue lolling Koshinis and sinfully tempting pre-teen fairies all gone with a keystroke combo - poof! Put Sister Salacia on the job and she'll kick nudie butt without EVEN taking names. For those fortunate enough to be employed, it's a no-brainer. Comes with a soothing Gregorian chant wav that plays while the screensaver is active and (as soon as I can find a decent wav of the Toccata and Fugue in D), creepy but reverent organ sounds whenever Sister Salacia appears. Coming soon, CoverUp Enterprise Edition will clean any Renderosity pages from your internet cache and for the super paranoid, Ashcroft mode will remove all delete all Renderosity images from your system. Not enough? Falwell mode will randomly delete registry keys, virtually ensuring that they'll be too busy on the phone to tech support to hassle you about any au naturel femmes. Okay, Falwell mode is just a joke but Sister Salacia will keep your screen cleaner than downtown Kabul under the Taliban. So don't delay, get your shekels ready - keep your job and laugh at the nudity tag. Bonus for the first 10 buysrs - Sister Salacia's Paris Hilton screensaver - all Paris, all nude, all the time, right on your desktop. Hurry, get the barest heiress for free - not suggested for workplace viewing.

A-men! And... Hallelujah! You know... the only flag I want is a "Rant" flag that people can set once it's obvious that something has turned into a rant - rather than a rational discussion. But it would be a flag that would need to be set-able at the top of the thread, by someone else than the original poster. big cheesy grin Most Rants would probably be dead in a heartbeat after everyone has that filter on :P Or how about a "Avoid at all cost" Flag? C'mon, work with me here! :P Silke

okay....i've been following along these threads because i have some questions regarding the forums in general. in october i entered the lw challenge with a little pic of a blob/caspar ghost thingey...no genitals, not much detail at all....but, due to all the nonsense i read over here in this forum i checked the nude flag, anyway. most of the modellers do not do this for their wips, since it is just a drag, and, we just kind of take it for granted that wips aren't gonna be clothed until clothing is made for them. is this "courtesy" only for the poser forum, or should i alert the wavers that they either need to cover their mechs, bots, and new figures, or, tag 'em nudes to keep the poser factor of this site off their backs? hummmm....wonder if there is any market for fig leaves in .lwo format.

Is this thread not getting too long? I thought it would have been locked by now just because of the size of it.

I think I agree with everybody... 1. if there's skin akin or remotely nude...flag it..what's the big deal...checking the flag has absolutely no bearing on artistic freedom or freedom of speech or expression. Your art still speaks for itself..you have expressed. I think its part of the TOS as well...just flag the damn thing and get over it. IMO, if I saw a nudity flagged item and I was ok with viewing nudes, I'd look at it...or if I come here knowing there may be a chance I'd stumble across a nude, its my decision to be here.... If my religious beliefs were such that I would not look at nude images, or erotic type images..I WOULD NOT EVEN BE HERE.... 2. If you're at work and afraid your boss will see you looking at nude pics or something with a bit of skin showing...you shouldn't be looking at the stuff...period..be it lunch time, permitted to surf or whatever...its your responsibility ...not ours. If your workplace does not approve of viewing specific types of web pages...YOU SHOULDNT BE DOING IT...why try to bend the rules...you deserve to be fired. 3. Common sense....instead of trying to figure out what percentage of nude means nude, just flag it. Use your own judgement...we're all adults, I think...if nudity offends you , or your worried about your boss...don't freakin look at the sites like that... 4. common courtesy...which is severely lacking in general...think about others a bit instead of the typical selfish outlook tons of folks have today.... I laid out a large rant and post about this very thing awhile back...and it all boils down to one thing, IMO... if you have any doubt of what you may see on a site, any site, it is your responsibility and decision of your being there...not anyone else's...you have the ability to not go there...if what you may stumble upon offends you, don't go there anymore. There is a possibility of a nude item not being flagged here..maybe the person just forgot...or maybe the person is just pushing buttons to rile folks up..or trying to push the mods to see what they can get away with....whatever..it happens....we all know it happens if you've been here any length of time... so knowing that, once again, its your move....take it upon yourself to stay or leave. to view or not... I'm sure there are other forums/galleries that prohibit any skin akin to nudity...go there and avoid the possibility your boss, kids, or wife will see you surfing some nude art or something.

all righty ... I can tell you guys had yesterday off work. The nudity flag is there to WARN people of an image containing a naked person. If you do NOT flag the nudity flag, nothing horrible will happen. A moderator will come along, mutter rude words, and turn it on if needed. Thats kind of it. Likewise the Violence tag is there to warn people of an image with violence in it, should they not wish to view entrails before lunch. This is simple courtesy. Simple courtesy is also agreeing to disagree. If you lot continue this thread as its been going I will be forced to lock it. Let this topic rest please, and put all this energy somewhere more useful. Like making naked pictures. Lyrra

Kendra ( ) posted Fri, 28 November 2003 at 1:52 PM

I didn't even bother to read through this thread because I know exactly what it will contain.

My gosh some of you can be simplistic. It's always about the nudity, it's always because of the boss and it's always a prudish attitude. Simple minds with no room for real thought.

Sorry Lyrra, I was typing my last one as you were typing your's. At least we have a ruling on the nudity flag. If the mods don't agree with our judgment it's up to them to set or unset the flags. If anyone has a problem with a post they think was inproperly set, contact the moderator. I will continue to mark any post I make that contains nudity with a flag as I feel it is needed using MY judgment. That's the best ANYONE can do. Try to respect everyone.

Is it obvious the person isn't wearing any clothing?

If yes, please use the nudity flag.

How does this work in practice?

I like the analogy of walking down the street - if someone saw that much of you on the street, would the cops arrest you for indecent exposure? In this case, think of it as posing next to a window without curtains. What would be seen from the outside?

Facial shots - no nudity tag needed. No one can tell if the person is wearing clothing or not.

Upper body shots (the hips and below aren't visible), for men, no nudity tag is necessary. For females, please use the nudity tag if the breasts and nipples are clearly shown. (Topless in public is against the law in most areas of the U.S. for women.) Please don't ask exactly how many pixels can be flesh before it's considered nudity. We're trying for common sense and courtesy, not inflexible and arbitrary numbers.

Full body - unless the crotch is covered (and the nipples as well for women) by clothing or a prop then it's a nude shot. (Yes, fig leaves do count, though it could still get you arrested in many areas of the world.)

This isn't meant to surpress anyone's rights, say that nudity is evil, etc. It's meant as a compromise. Not everyone wants to view nude pictures, or they may be in a situation where viewing nudity at that time is inconvenient, and we want to accomodate them but we also don't want to ban nudity or shove it into some small corner of the site. Nudity in artwork is a time honored tradition that we're not about to go against. We're simply making a compromise so as many people as possible can use this site.

I don't consider this any different than the idea of smoking and non-smoking sections in a restaurant. If you want to smoke, please do not sit in the non-smoking area and light a cigarette. If you don't smoke, please don't sit in the smoking area and complain about the fumes. And smoking heroin is against U.S. law, so it's not allowed in any part of the restaurant!

Hope this helps,

Cres

All this talk and not a single order? Sister Salacia's gonna have to turn to hooking to make an honest buck. Just as well, our lawyers inform us we can't distribute the Paris Hilton video and she's a publicity seeking little skank to boot. Still, don't say we never gave you anything for free. In IE, go to Tools-Internet Options-Advanced and scroll down to multimedia. Uncheck Show Pictures and voila, irregardless of your position on nudity, religion or politics, the forums are now sanitized for your protection. It won't protect you from the verbal jihad but you won't have to pluck an eye out over the pics.

so whats good for the market isn't good for the forums (see above) This is almost exactly the same as what started all this. also it feels like those who support YOU (the mods) are being screwed again

I switched my profile to not show any nude thumbnails. Guess what? The Edo thumbnail simply said, "Warning: contains nudity." The same with the RayTraz thumbnail. That tells me that those products were flagged with the nudity button.

Ummm ... how is this discrimination against forum posters, when we're doing the same on RMP products?

Thanks,

Cres
