THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Hi AS, Just browsing the Bryce gallery and thought the comment in one of BlackUnicorn's pics deserved some attention. Just my opinion of course....

mloates ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 12:31 PM

Actually, upon further inspection, it seems the comment is posted in many of his images.

draculaz ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 12:37 PM

someone should really put him out of his misery... like permanently

rickymaveety ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 12:43 PM

So apparently someone named "bromba" didn't like BlackUnicorn's work and BU spent one heck of a lot of time sending the guy nasty IMs?? I guess BU is super sensitive about his work. I probably shouldn't comment on it either (since I don't want to get a bunch of nasty IMs) ... but, he really needs to work on his textures. If he's a rank beginner, they are not too horrible, but if he's been at this for a while, he needs to consider putting some effort into them. His composition is not bad, and some of his images show some real humor, but it looks like he's posting most of his work half finished (for example, if he had put serious effort into the textures of "Road to LA" to make it more realistic, and then perhaps put his "woodies" into the cars and trucks (if that's the only model he has for the human figure) and called it something like "Woodie's Road Trip") -- that would have rated an Excellent (imho), otherwise, it's ok. So, bring on the nasty IMs.

Could be worse, could be raining.

I sent in a comment and said what I think, I wasn't mean or anything but I did say that the textures were not up to much and that it needed more work. Although I also said the composition was pretty good. Then I also added that I didn't understand how most of his images get into the hot one when he hadn't achieved a significant level of knowledge with the program, ie. Bryce. So I guess I may get some bad words back for daring to say such a thing but I just felt it had to be said. Catlin

kimpe ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 2:29 PM

Is anybody sure this person isn't eight years old to begin with? I've seen this many times on the news groups. Some little kid gets angry at Mommy and Daddy, goes on the net and says thing to take his anger out on others. Perhaps he dosen't like people with real talent and does thing to make a mockery of them. Just a thought. As for making it into the top 20, he probably has alot of friends at school.

amethyss ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 2:32 PM

I don't think so Catlin... Your comment was true.I say comments that are respectful ,yet critical.

Being singled out and cornered a person will lash out.Unless they have been through many courses of anger managemnet, this is the reaction that will always be portrayed.

Bromba had maliciously attacked all BU images.Yes the IM's being sent between them are wrong, but taking the time to go paste the personal jibberish on each image is more childish.
I also see RosityGal trying to stir up something too.A gallery-less person,3 Artist page views...Hmmmmmm?
===========================================================
Perhaps if this Hot20 is such a sore thumb it should be removed.I've been in it with images that are no where the quality I had thought would rank me.
As long as someone has a lot of friends, they will be in the Hot 20.The truly great artists, will know who they are by the time and effort they put into their work.It will show.

Looking at Black Unicorn's artist's page, I would hazard that he is in his mid to late 30s, and probably French (or French Canadian ... anyway, I don't think English is his primary language). The sad thing is, with everyone just filling his head up with how outstanding his work supposedly is, and voting him into the top 20, and no honest critique (although Catlin's post echoes my sentiments exactly), he's not likely to improve his work. Of course I have no idea what bromba's original post was all about, or whether it was legitimate criticism or not, but I must say that BU's IM responses were childish at best. (Although I doubt I would have posted them as bromba did.) I do find I tend to discount comments made by people who have no work of their own posted. If someone is one hell of an artist and says that something is really excellent, I'll admit that means a bit more to me than it does if I look at what they have posted and it is amateurish at best. And, yes, if I see something rated as excellent and it looks like ho hum so so to me, I do tend to look at the galleries of those whose comments are listed. I often find that those calling average work "excellent" and raving about it, have work I would consider sub-par. If they don't even have a single piece posted, then their opinion is really meaningless to me.

Could be worse, could be raining.

drawbridgep ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 3:41 PM

Pity, I have no idea what comments were made and now it appears that the Dark Horned ones entire gallery has gone. It's a shame really. Like some have mentioned, it's not so much the art that was the issue, but the attitude and abuse of R'osity. I can only guess that he'll resurface as one of the clones.

I'm not putting this info out to make fun of anyone, I just want to let you all know how serious all this can be, even though we are all just online, doing art, having fun. Bromba was sent a warning about his trolling. clay had deleted one of his comments, and as we do, we always send out an IM "warning", asking to stop. By the time I had got here, bromba had copy/pasted the same giant comment 14 more times on some of BlackUnicorn's pics. Because of the size of the TOS violation, I chose to ban bromba for 24 hours. I also hoped this would help vent the steam, cause sometimes we need to just walk away from pur pc's for awhile. Now, also it turned out bromba had done his "commenting" because of some durogatory IM's from BlackUnicorn, of a threatening nature. The IM's were checked and verified. Renderosity has zero tolerance for this type of TOS violation, and BlackUnicorn and his clones are now permanently banned from Renderosity, along with the deletion of his galleries. Again, I'm not saying this to showcase what has happened to these members but just to remind everyone to keep their head about things here, and/or, if you have any problems with comments, IM's, etc, to come to me or any of the other Mods/Admins, we're here to help those who want to hang out at the best community we can keep. I'm sure AS did what he had to do but it really bothers me to hear all this trashing of BU here, you all are no better than you claim he was. And yours is more public. Anita

catlin_mc ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 8:22 PM

Excuse me Anita but where you ever on the receiving end of BU's threats of violence, hacking your computer, posting lowest ratings on all your images? Well I don't think so and he always got into the Hot-20, which is supposed to be for the best of the best of the Bryce community but between his numerous clones and all his friends he somehow managed to always get in there with images which most of us had completed when we first got the program. If you praise someone falsely it does not help that person to improve because they think their work is good and don't have to work on it any more. And as AgentSmith said he is now banned because of his severe abuse of the R'osity TOS. He'd been warned on more than one occassion about his behaviour but he seems to believe that even though we abide by the TOS it is of no matter to him. Catlin

shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 8:42 PM

Well, all things considered, it's the exceptional artists that make you think, make you feel, make you learn. I can't say I ever saw one of Black Unicorns' images that I would consider art. Perhaps he just has a lot to learn? Either way, I'm glad the Big Dogs took care of it now. It was getting out of hand, and perhaps now that Hot 20 thing will be a bit safer.

catlin_mc ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 8:43 PM

Hello Cognito and welcome to the forum. There's probably lots of unicorns floating round the gallery. Real and imaginary. 8) Catlin

catlin_mc ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 8:49 PM

Where'd he go..................did anyone else see someone called Cognito here, who said that he saw another unicorn in the gallery. No sooner had I gone to look at their gallery, there isn't one 'cos they joined today, and come back here to comment and he's gone. Strange goings on in the Bryce forum..........spooky. 8) Catlin

ascript ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 8:57 PM

No Catlin I never was subjected to it and nor do I believe that most here were. I was not defending his actions. I am pointing out that the 'actions' I see in this thread aren't much better. Whether he made the hot 20 has nothing to do with violating the tos yet that seems to be a bigger sore point to you than the other (and to many others I might point out). He got the consequence that he deserved so why don't you let it drop instead of beating a dead horse? ;) It's always so easy to talk behind people's backs when they aren't around to defend themselves. I personally don't think he's any worse than many others I see on these sites as a human being. He reacted badly and got punished, why not just let it drop now? Anita

catlin_mc ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 9:20 PM

I have let it drop I only responded to your post because I knew you weren't aware of the stink he had caused to a few members here not long ago. I even went to his last image and gave some constructive critisism, which is what I always do when I think an image needs more work. The problem with the hot one is that it's supposed to be for the best the community has to offer and it really shouldn't be abused by people who have more friends and clones than good images. Perhaps it would be a better idea if the hot one no longer existed, because no matter where on this site these problems arise it always causes a bad taste which seems to hang around for far too long a time. Catlin

rickymaveety ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 9:50 PM

If I may chime in ... my critique is posted as #4 in this thread, my other comment is at #10, and I don't think either fall to the level of making threats against someone. But the point I'd like to make is that I've only been on Rederocity a month now, and on the forum less time than that, but I must say that I found it disheartening at best to see BU's work getting Hot20 votest and masses of raves ... and then look at my own stuff (pretty much getting ignored), and I would compare his work with my own and wonder what the deal was. I'm not great shakes as a Brycer, but seriously, even my work was (is) better than his by some lengths (objectively -- yes, I know I like my own work, but honestly, it is better than the images I saw in BU's gallery), and when I see something like that it can't help but make think that the whole Hot20 and rating system is a big popularity contest and has nothing to do with the quality of the images, or with learning to improve the quality of the images.

Could be worse, could be raining.

ascript ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 9:52 PM

I was aware and the violation of the tos and who gets hot 20 are two separate issues. I don't KNOW that he voted himself in with clones, do you? The hot 20 has more problems than just BU ;) We are all human and we all have flaws and make mistakes. I refuse to believe he is any more of a monster than any of us. It just bothers me seeing all these totally unnecessary cruel comments. He paid the price. Anita

shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Wed, 03 December 2003 at 3:22 AM

Ascript, we DO know that he was using clones. I am not talking about him behind his back, I am posting thoughts in text form. If I was attacking him, with my text, then I hope he suffers greatly. I myself am immune to such forms of attack. Text doesn't hurt me, and fire only causes 25% damage at this point... (grins) Anita, he is not a monster, just the worst example of a Bryce user I've ever seen. Defending him is fine, SOMEBODY has to do it, but remember that even Ridgeway had a Lawyer. These are not cruel comments. I suggest some movies, or possibly some books, and perhaps that will put "cruel" in perspective for you. THAT might have been cruel, but again, said perspective will help you to relax about such things.

catlin_mc ( ) posted Wed, 03 December 2003 at 4:13 AM

Anita, I am also rather disturbed that you see cruelty anywhere in any of the posts I've made here. As shadow said we KNOW he had clones and his attitude to using those clones to vote for himself was dishonest and in bad taste, especially when you see the images with true artistic value and talent, sitting there right besides his. I don't think BU is a monster, I do think he has abused the system and as you say he has paid the price for it. What I can't understand now is, why are you keeping it going? I wouldn't even mind if BU got back in here as long as he started obeying the TOS like the rest of us. Catlin
