Subject: Help "Object Not Found"??? :(

Hi All, I just went to open a Bryce Scene And an error message came up. "An Unexpected Error Has Occured (Object Not Found)" There was a lot of Drive activity while saving and closing down. What I would like to know is can this be recovered or is it lost for ever? Cheers Marc

This has happened to me alot, especially after leaving Photoshop (a big Ram gobbler) on and trying to open a Bryce file. It's basically a memory problem. Reboot the machine and try opening Bryce again, as the first and only program. It should come up without the message. As an aside, I've been encountered many corrupt Bryce files lately (MacOS 8.1) and typically the program opens, and then being unable to open the file, says something about "invalid file format". Also, I have other corrupted files where the message states "damaged resource fork." In both instances, this seems to occur more to extremely large files (200megs plus) and in the process of crashing the machine or doing some other process in the Finder, while trying to save the file itself. Good luck, manowar

Nah, That didn't work, As it was saving I clicked on the close prog. button, I think that was where it got messed up, the other scenes open up fine, I think this one is lost, pitty it was a nice scene. Cheers Marc

Wish I had a suggestion for your problem Marc, I just wanted to mention a very cool utility called "Go Back" by adaptech. Easy to use and a great price at 59 bucks. it essentially takes a snapshot of your drive(s) and lets you revert back to any time in the past week or so. you can even revert to "Saved over" versions of a file. or go back and retriev a file that has been emptied from the recycle bin. I've already used it a couple of times and don't know how I got along without it. http://www.adaptec.com/products/overview/goback.html Hawkfyr

Thanks Hawkfyr, I'll have to find out if it's available here in Australia, It'll probably cost around the $90 mark but that's pretty much the norm. But from what I've read it sounds spot on, thanks. Marc

nah...heres the answer...(and the problem) the "object not found" error is an error relating to radial lights in groups in Bryce. This error was not corrected until the 4.1 version...unfortunately, new buyers are SOL in this...but meta buyers (those with 4) can upgrade to 4.1 and kiss this sucker goodbye. what causes it is editing a light that is within a group without ungrouping the light...its really easy to reproduce in 3.0 (or 3.1) or 4.0 but the differences vary in 3.0 if you create 1 radial light and one cube..group them then edit the light without ungrouping it then save the file..it will not reopen and you get this error in 4.0 if you create 2 radial lights and one cube..group them and edit the lights (again without ungrouping them) and save the file, it will not reopen got a whole section about this error in the bugs section of my site...and its a BAD bug...ive lost many files to it...and spending hours on a file just to lose it is not a good thing! anyhow..check this out! you can learn the workaround, more about the cause, and lots of other bryce bugs http://www.brycetech.com/bugs.html good luck BT
