Well, aside from no easy imports, exports only terrain (skies and water don't work, dangit), no vegetation, etc., there's nothing wrong with it. I've even converted Terragen terrains, and brought them into Bryce (they tend to shrink with travel, though..;) It's about the same price as Bryce nowadays. It's a good program, I don't have any problems with it, used to use it a lot until I got Bryce. It's good if you want to do landscapes, rocky terrain, moss-covered terrain, etc. I wish I could bring the water in myself, que lastima. No reason you can't have both (or even World Builder, or Kashmir)..there's a Terragen forum here, you could drop by and ask them, too.
I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

Oh wait a minute I must be in the wrong forum? No, no I am pretty sure this is the Bryce forum! Ah ha Blasphemer! Be gone! Terragen! GrrrOh I cant keep this up U can stay. Some of the things in Gen are good (what you mentioned) but seeing how Bryce may never get another update it may be surpassed? I find the Bryce interface to be the easiest and most intuitive I have ever used. I found Terragen more difficult to use. I wish I could find one that is similar to Bryce! Vile starts taking his shoes off But now you better start running! and you know I will do it ;)
Heavens forbid!!!!!!! Terragen and Vue, such blastphemy and in the Bryce forum too................what is this world coming to?? Ok I got to admit I tried Terragen and brought the terrains into Bryce and they do seem to shrink but are very good. But as was said no vegetation and no modelling, so Bryce still comes out on top as far as I can see, but if you've gone and done it there's no going back I suppose. Let us know how you get on with it. 8) Catlin
I use Terragen a bit for backgrounds in my Bryce art. Some of the artwork people have done just in Terragen is amazing though. It takes a bit of work, but I found Terragen very easy to use. I also tried out Mojoworld which can create some great landscapes, but the render times are crazy. Sometimes you have to turn off shadows and smog if you want to get your render done in a day. It's also took me a while to learn how to use the program and make planets from scratch. I still don't exactly know what I'm doing and most of the cool scenes I make are completely by accident. Mojoworld is worth checking out though. You are able to import objects too which is nice.
thanks guys..will try it out..let you know. Nukeboy..I swear allegience to bryce..and vow that I will NOT try Vue... Vile.. great..that gives you one good reason to get to India! ;) Quest...I love what you did..the pix of the horses..grandcanyon. How does one import stuff from Terragen to Bryce? I'm rather afraid to ask questions pertaining to Bryce and terragen in the terragen forum..don't know if the sharks there are friendly or mean!! :) I'll be getting it on Monday..the friend who's getting it for me is off playing golf.. and he's not going to his office during the weekend. Arrgg..I have to wait..in the meantime..i give meself theory lessons...
Erosiaart .. I spend most of my time in the Terragen forum, many of us use Bryce and other programs as well. On the whole they are a friendly and civil bunch. :) You are certaintly welcome to visit and ask as many questions as you like. Even though Terragen is not as full featured as Bryce, it is a fantastic program that is fun to use and produces some very realistic images. It is in constant development and will continue to improve over time and become more feature laden. take care, BabaLouie

Well I try and try to generate landscape scenes with Bryce, and it does a fantastic job,but.....to me Terragen just outshines it if you are a "lazy never read much about anything" Bryce user like me.I have done about 50 trial images with Terragen and think I not too bad. With Bryce I must be at about 500 and still have a hard time.Painting: The art of protecting flat surfaces from the weather and exposing them to the critic_____website
Erosiaart, I simply positioned the sun in Terragen to mimic the position of the sun in the Bryce environment and rendered the sky in Terragen. I then selected all my canyon terrains in Bryce and rendered a mask. Using the mask together with my Bryce render and the Terragen sky render in Photoshop, I composited the 2 images onto each other. Terragen is a wonderful addition to my tool kit. Stop with the shoes already, I got hit on the head. :)
(Puts on the body armor, knee pads, elbow pads, Kevlar helmet, goggles, CUP and grabs the riot shield. Leans out of the armor vehicle with a megaphone from 100 meters back) I've used terragen quite a bit. Haven't used it in some time though. You can really make some cool picures and it is quite easy to use, erosiaart. You can randomly generate terrains themselves and then further modify them. Clouds and skies are easy as well as the water. The sun has plenty of adjustments as do the materials that you can apply to the terrains. Look for tuts about it. It's fun to play with, but you are limited COMPLETELY to terrain images and nothing else. If you check the main terragen site, it will give you links to some plugins that have been created for it. There is one for water in which you can give the perception of deep and shallow water in a lake or ocean. (looks to see vile moving up with the new and improved shoe O' matic 2004 with the optional side mounted boot launcher)
