Subject: Nudity flag (groan - not again)

Phantast ( ) posted Wed, 24 December 2003 at 6:09 AM · edited Wed, 13 November 2024 at 6:20 AM

Sorry to bring this up again after the recent threads on the subject, but this is a genuine enquiry. What is the ruling for things? Which of the following would require the nudity flag to be set in either gallery or this forum? 1) A nude statue 2) An unclothed dress-shop mannequin 3) A Sorayama-type robot 4) An undressed child's doll (say, Barbie)

bookmark (I look at this site at work sometimes and have been startled more than once when a nudity flag wasn't used. Love to hear the answer to this question).

The Nudity Flag needs to be engaged if the image shows any kind of nudity.

Even if the figure is covered by see-through cloth - it is still nude.

There is no thing as kinda nude - or a little nude :)

Even if you post nudity in the title of your image, you still need to engage the nudity button.

What is considered nudity in a Renderosity Gallery Image:

  1. Humans or humanoid figures without any garments
  2. Exposure of the nipple or areola [the dark skin surrounding the nipple] for woman
  3. See-through clothing where the breasts [see #2] are exposed for woman
  4. Exposure of the pubic region for both men and woman [this includes genitals and pubic hair]
  5. See-though clothing where the pubic region [see #4] is exposed for both men and woman
  6. Exposure of the bare buttock for both men and woman

Also: When You upload an image to the Renderosity Gallery, you Agree to abide by Renderosity's Gallery TOS and upload rules. One of which states:

Nudity
If this image/writing contains nudity or violence of any type, you must check the "Nudity" or Violence checkbox, or your image/writing may be deleted. If we receive complaints about the image/writing, and the Nudity or Violence flag is not set, it will be deleted. So, if you think someone might be offended by your image/ writing, be safe and hit the "Nudity" or Violence checkbox.

Hope that helps :)

I just click the nudity flag if I have ANY doubts. If it srikes me as something that people might want to have a little "pre-warning" about (such as viewing at work or viewing from home with children present, etc.), I just flag it. I just think it's better to err on the side of caution (and common courtesy ;-). Of course, if this site holds true to its character, this thread will probably soon be filled with people arguing about the definition of nudity, howling about their "rights" as "artists", misquoting the U.S. Constitution, calling people "prudes", making obnoxious anti-religious statements for no apparent reason, posting images of women in burkas (the head-to-toe veils that the Taliban forced all Afghanistani women to wear), and so forth. And all because someone wants them to 1) display a little common courtesy and 2) take a fraction of a second and tick a little box. ;-) bonni

On the other hand, over-use of the flag is also undesirable and occasionally risible. An artist's lay figure is a humanoid figure (you know, the little guy in the Poser icon) and is not wearing any clothes. Do you want the nudity flag for HIM? I don't think so. (Or am I wrong?) Now, if you say "humanoid creatures" then it's clear what is meant. But a doll, for example, while certainly a humanoid figure, has no nipples or genitals, so I would have thought can't really be considered "nude".

I would ban anyone looking at the site at work.

xantor ( ) posted Wed, 24 December 2003 at 1:12 PM

I would ban children looking at the site as well.

I kind of wish they wouldn't use nude thumbnails in the marketplace since I like to visit Renderocity at work sometimes. :-P

I do nto find the nudes here offensive either, but to each his own, I will let my children watch as I peruse the gallery, I mean I use poser right in front of them and do not cloth the people right till the last stages of posing anyway, they totally know that the body is something to be admired rather then prudishly covered up.

I agree with simderella and odeathoflife.

Without a doubt - Brits are indeed a little more enlightened than all the people here in the US who want to be protected from themselves. Thanks for your post simderella! ;)

Yeah, it's a lame attempt at humor

Why shouldn't speech be free? Very little of it is worth anything.

I tick the flag when I have any doubts too. I think the nudity flag is necessary on a mainstream art site. It is however... up to you to use your nudity filters, not my fault if you see my renders and you haven't ticked your own little nudity box. end rant.

Never mind which nations are more relaxed than which other ones - nobody has answered my original question. 1, 2, 3, 4 - which are potentially offensive? My feeling is that anything which doesn't actually posses nipples or genitalia can't really be nude even if it has no clothes on, but I'd like confirmation as to whether this accords with house policy.
