There's a feature in there that lets you report bugs and such, but you can also use it to request additional features, functionality, and cosmetic improvements as well! Use it... it's a good thing :) /P

Peng, I'll use that report feature to ask for the "Create Art" button that we all expect from our 3D apps. I mean, do they expect us to do the arty bit ourselves???? :] Fish

Well it isn't fast and i've had a crash (will report) but considering its Alpha its pretty good....BUT the lighting is outstanding...this is a point light and a distant light place with little care and it still looks great....Steve

What am I doing wrong...my graphics are saving as text files. Boo hoo.

dialyn ( ) posted Wed, 24 December 2003 at 7:28 PM

By the way, my graphic rendered in under 2 minutes. It just saved as a text file. :/ Good news, bad news for me.

steveshanks ( ) posted Wed, 24 December 2003 at 7:31 PM

it doesn't add the .jpg Dialyn...when you save save it as "my render.jpg"....it was the hair slowed mine down i watched and it went a lot faster as it got past the hair....Steve

Veritas777 ( ) posted Wed, 24 December 2003 at 7:32 PM

Wooooo-Hooooo!!! Don't Need No P5!!! Also IT IS THE ANSWER to World Peace! Cure's athelete's Foot!!! It will even BRING Elvis and the Beatles BACK AGAIN!!! Worth the WAIT!!!

Here's a render of the sample scene. Still stumbling my way around the interface. -jjsemp

dialyn ( ) posted Wed, 24 December 2003 at 7:43 PM

I don't know ... I think I'm going to try when I don't have the holidays on my mind. I'm not getting very far with the interface. Sure love to see what other people are doing, though. It will be great when the handy hints start tumbling out. :)

By the way, Veritas777 is correct. The Beatles just rang my doorbell, and they had Elvis with them. They brought with them a declaration of World Peace, gave it to me and then headed for my computer to play with the new software.

"It will even BRING Elvis and the Beatles BACK AGAIN!!!" c'mon... the Beatles aren't even in the API. Elvis is another story tho' (evil grin) Seriously though... it's still Alpha, and it's gonna have bugs. The reporting feature is great for that (I don't envy Taylor and His Codemonkey Choir though... they're gonna be real busy :) ) /P

SnowSultan ( ) posted Wed, 24 December 2003 at 7:51 PM

Have you guys tried the Spot Renderer yet? Awesome, no more rendering entire scenes to check out how one tiny change will look. :D I think the biggest surprise for me though is seeing my V3 seam guide in the manual. ;) SnowS

Now some people will understand the true power of the dark side ... errrh, uhh... I mean OpenGL. ;) Now you'll know what the rest of us were squaking about when the "overhauled" P5 didn't have it and remained solidly in 1990's technology.

ming ( ) posted Wed, 24 December 2003 at 7:53 PM

I got the e-mail but no link. Where is it?

timoteo1 ( ) posted Wed, 24 December 2003 at 7:55 PM

In your downloads section of your account page. :)

Penguinisto ( ) posted Wed, 24 December 2003 at 7:56 PM

ming: Go to daz3d.com, then to the plat club store. On top of the page is a link to your account. Go there, and if you're a Plat Club member, you should have a copy of DAZ Studio sitting as a download link, all fat and happy waiting for you to click on it :) /P

ming ( ) posted Wed, 24 December 2003 at 8:01 PM

I quit the plat club. Waste of $. Thanks for the info.

Chas ( ) posted Wed, 24 December 2003 at 8:03 PM

Oh poop. And I'm 400 mi. from my own 'puter. I've had concerns that this would be a memory pig, especially since I already have trouble with any unimesh figure in P4, if I have other apps open or haven't restarted recently (biggest problem is probably a loaded hard drive / no scratch discs). Any projected minimum requirements? (Take care and Merry Xmas)

Veritas777 ( ) posted Wed, 24 December 2003 at 8:04 PM

It appears that the DAZ files are descriptive links to the content files! This appears to allow a TOTALLY COOL new content management system allowing HUGE FLEXIBILITY in content management!!! (Huummmm! Wonder why a CONTENT CREATION company would think of THAT!? ----Duh!!!)

Penguinisto ( ) posted Wed, 24 December 2003 at 8:09 PM

It runs well enough on a Pentium III 866MHz processor w/ 512MB of PC-133 RAM in it, sporting a GeForce2Go w/ 16MB video RAM. The screen was also a 15" LCD (set at 1600x1400 resolution) XGA monitor (I tested it on my old Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop in case yer curious, and no major slowdowns at all.) Memory usage is pretty dang slim compared to Poser 4, esp. compared to P5, and even Vue... (seriously!) Startup takes about as long as Poser 4, but mostly because it looks through and refreshes content folders (which you can specify either during initial load where it searches automatically, or later on via the menu.) It also runs quite well on a P4m 2.4GHz box w/ 1GB of RAM and a GeForce4 w/ 128MB RAM :) /P

maclean ( ) posted Wed, 24 December 2003 at 8:09 PM

'It appears that the DAZ files are descriptive links to the content files' What does that mean exactly? What DAZ files? mac (I can't BELIEVE this has spot rendering!!!!)

soulhuntre ( ) posted Wed, 24 December 2003 at 8:18 PM

"Now some people will understand the true power of the dark side ... errrh, uhh... I mean OpenGL." Looks good from what I see... but you do know that OpenGL has nothing to do with the spot rendering right? :)

I kind of wondered how Daz would allow for both Poser and Daz for its files to unload. Elegant solution. I wonder if this will change as Daz Studio takes over the world.

Penguinisto ( ) posted Wed, 24 December 2003 at 8:53 PM

en-tee, eh? /P

Where is it??? Is this stuff under "View My Orders" in the My Account area? I know timoteo1 mentioned its in the download section. But, WHAT download section.
