BTW: I do get a listing in the Content tab with everything in the Runtime folder, but when I go into folders, the items do not show up underneath. I made sure I had .rsr and .png thumbnails just in case, but no items show up. Do things have to be saved in the .daz format for the item thumbnails to show? (If so, I hope that will change with the next release.)
ROTFL. Thanks Crescent I think that might be helpful, then I wouldn't feel quite such an arsehole. :) as I don't have most of the forums displayed, Poser is usually first on the list. It wasn't until after I had my little snit fit that I realised "Hang on, this IS the Studio forum". Ooops. Hey, I'm allowed to be a complete idiot at least once a year. :D
Doesn't ProPack also support compressed files? Why, yes it does! ;) DAZ supports up to Pro Pack one would hope. - Side note: supporting this compression format is really sooo simple that even I can do it using Java. There are free developers' libraries out there for C/C++/Java/etc. that'll compress and decompress these files on the fly for you. So, Nosfiratu, what gives? This makes no sense and is something that could have been added in less than a day by even a hack of a programmer.

Yes but other stuff that took more than one day, took that day. So blame those things. I would try removing it and reinstalling. I have noticed through a few of the revisions that the linking to the runtime somehow gets messed up, and that the setting that messes it up is stored. Usually deleting the whole thing and reinstalling will solve it. I'm sure whatever causes it will be tracked down.
the compression routine that is supported by pro pack is a very basic zip compatible routine, a pzz pr crz file can be opened by Winzip. That Studio does not support zipped or compressed files is hardly an oversight. I have Cinema, Bryce, Maya PLE and a few other progs and lo-and-behold they don't support compression either. I have no idea why CL decided to do what they did and can only assume it's because of the physical size of poser files which can easily make 3 figures (compression reduces that). I see no real problem if Studio doesn't support it. It's supposed to be a Daz program after all, not a new Poser. If you can point me to another 3D Application that supports compressed files I'll be happy to rescind my opinion.
Crescent. Regarding your "can't find the runtime" problem. Several applications store things in an ini file. Poser stores them in a rsr but that's rather unique. I don't have studio so can't check but it may be worth checking for a preferences file (like an .ini) and seeing if the location is hard coded into that file and correcting it. A problem I discovered with one app I use is that while it allows virtual paths to reference libraries it had to be hard coded into the ini or the app lost the reference. Probably way off track but it's a thought. :)
Veritas. Do you use the new asset management in Poser 5 or just leave things as they are in a single tree? I know Pbooost can cause issues with other software referencing the poser runtime but I'm not sure if Poser uses a logical windows based tree structure or has some funky thing unique to itself (like so many other things it does). if so, that may be one of the issues affecting crescent.
I don't own or use Poser 5! I'm a hard-core p4 Pro-Pack user. Maybe its Windows 2000 (sr3)? (I use creative runtime switching after I gave up on PBoost!) It actually works fine for me in P4 PP.) All I did was follow the instructions and tell DAZ STUDIO to find my stuff. HOWEVER- there are TWO other OPTIONS that MIGHT make a difference for some people- Under EDIT, Preference, there is: 1. DAZ Studio Content Directories 2. Poser Content Directories 3. Other Imported Content Directories Make sure you try the other TWO as your machine/OS might like those flavors better! Other idea too is run Correct Reference first. I have previously used it, but not in the past week- but it might have helped DS find them.
Questor, IIRC (since I can no longer use them with newer versions of the software), the Pro Pack plugins for LightWave, C4D, and 3DS supported both uncompressed and compressed Poser files. Considering that both the plugins and file compression were part of Pro Pack, it would be a massive oversight on CL's part if this were not the case. Since most of these others use BINARY format files, if there is compression, it's built into their respective proprietary format and basically impossible to determine - without insider knowledge. I just find it funny. I started writing a plugin for C4D to import Poser files a while back (using their C SDK) and included support for compressed Poser files no problem. Greenbriar Studio's Poser plugins also support this. It is that simple. You can either create a temporary uncompressed version of the file to actually load or load with decompression/read into a buffer. Since Pro Pack offers the ability to save files compressed, Daz Studio should be made to handle them. Maybe in the future?

Fair enough Kuroyume. I appreciate that writing the routine would be relatively simple for Poser compressed files as it's using a common routine to do the compression. I just don't see it as such an issue that Studio doesn't support it. That's obviously coloured by own thoughts on the matter and that no files I've ever downloaded or purchased have been pz compressed so it's not like it's commonly used for much of anything. It's perhaps something to mention to Daz, all they need to do is incorporate a zip routine into the software as that will uncompress the PP/P5 files that are packed. Thing being here is, how long will that even be important? I'm sorry, not knocking what you say but I just don't see it as particularly important. As regards proprietary formats, that's not what I meant. I was more inclined to find a program like Studio, C4D etc that opened "zip" files so you could access the content live inside the app. After all, the pz format used by Poser is just a "zip". It can be opened by winrar, winace, winzip, etc etc. I don't personally own anything that can open a zip file, import the item into the workspace and let me work on it. It's necessary to unzip the stuff first, then load it to the workspace.
Ratteler- I use a Movie Studio concept too! My somewhat similiar system with P4PP and DAZ Studio- -have added all of the runtime's content like below: My runtime is actually sets of libraries like: M#libraries = Mike stuff V#libraries = Vicky stuff (with separate branched MAT Pose T#libraries = Toon-Anime A#libraries = Animals-Horses, etc. N#libraries = Nature stuff (plants-trees- RNDA worlds) B#libraries = Buildings- Dystopia, diners, etc. and 2-3 more. Just Remove the "#" for the one I want to use before clicking on the Poser icon. But- All my TEXTURES and GEOMETRIES are ALL There. This is both HUGELY USEFUL because I can load ANY Pz3 file at any time while any other runtime is active (ALL Geom and textures avail to all runtimes- But- Poser is Very SLOW when it first loads because it seems to locate all the geom and textures before loading the other specialized libraries, HOWEVER- DAZ STUDIO does NOT have this ANCIENT POSER Slowness! It doesn't need to explore the universe and ponder the meaning of complex space-time formulas. It just LOADS and GOES to the ANY LIBRARY!!! This includes EVEN my "#" marked libraries- so its code is not stopped by that normally used software "off" switch. So my system STILL works for P4PP AND DS- and DS is HUGELY FASTER!!! This means I am a happy camper! All of my MASSIVE CONTENT is available on-line in both Poser 4PP and Daz Studio!
Yah! That's why I luckily stumbled onto my runtime scheme, since I only have ONE runtime, but 9-10 libraries. Apparently DS doesn't care WHAT you name a library, as long as you have a runtime in front of it! You could actually name DS libraries Mike, Vicky, Horses, etc. But I won't do that until the day comes that I feel I wouldn't need P4PP. Since it all does work fine now- not going to change anything (and not buying P5 anytime soon either).

I did go to Edit: Preferences: Directories and added my Poser program folder, but anytime I import something, it says that it can not find /Runtime/Geometries/... (fill in location of .obj file.) I've tried pointing it just to the basic location of Poser. I've tried pointing to the Runtime folder under Poser. Neither way works. What path should I use to get it to find things in my Runtime folder? I am using P5, but I only have 1 Runtime folder and it's in the default location. Thanks!
