THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Daz Studio

Hi and Merry Christmas all of the members here. With the arrival of the new free Daz Studio software who I think will be a real competitor to Poser, do we have any chance to have better imports from this new software in obj format. (I only have Poser 3 actually and with all Poser 5 bugs, I'm not interested yet to buy it) I'ts a real pain transforming all the mats, light, transparency etc... Those of the Platinum Club who own Poser 4 or 5, please try some exports if Daz Studio can as it is only in beta actually. Sure we can do a lot of things in Bryce specially landscapes, but I'd like adding occasionnaly people, animals, etc... Thank you

New?! FREE!? Where do I find this rare gem? Or is it just for Platinum Club members?

Right now it's only downloadable for the Platinum Club but in a few days, it will be for all. But remember it is in Alpha not even Beta test, so on the Daz Studio forum, they are saying that there are many omissions and some bugs. Please, Santa Claus, please Michel

Do you think it will be mentioned in their newsletter? I'd love to try it out...

They only said in their newsletter that Daz Studio would be available first to the members of the Platinum Club ($$$). Someone just said in the Poser forum that actually, they can only save as Daz Studio format (the obj export is grayed). Well, I guess we will have to wait a little more but hopefully, I'm sure Daz will take care of us Brycean people if they think they can make some money with us too. I already bought the 4 CDs from Poser Pros about a year ago and I love all the props, poses and clothes that I can use with Poser 3 and Bryce (except that I bought it only 3 months ago. I bought Real Bryce World and I hope someday to be half as good as you are. Michel

I saw in a past post (Poser forum, and at DAZ) is that the first (alpha) version would be save-and-export disabled, but I've heard rumors to the contrary..the second version out should have all this, but heaven knows when that will be, maybe 1st quarter 2004..they want to get a million copies out there, and I think eventually it will come with (not free) plugins and other goodies..but who knows..I'll download it once non-Platinum members can get it (I think I'm a Saran-wrap member, but I might upgrade to cardboard..;)

/(I think I'm a Saran-wrap member, but I might upgrade to cardboard..;)/ ROTFLMAO That was real cute, :) - the rumors I have heard / read was that DS would be a free app, while the plugins would be a reasonably priced purchase. Of course one knows how rumors are. Obviously there is a hugh potential for DAZ to expand their market via this method, imagine in a few years that DS, as it matures, might well replace Poser and, the content would continue to come from DAZ. I have been playing with DS today, and it seems to have great potential, of course it is a bit buggy and many folks seem to be having some sort of problem, I don't believe that any of the problems appear to be major at this point so perhaps they will be quickly fixed and a release made available for the rest of the 'family'. well, as an alpha release (I only have one alpha release in all my years of software acquiring..Pkzip .96..kaff kaf..;) the 'alpha testers' are there to discover and report them..so that's not unexpected..

OK ... here's a question for you all. I've not yet gotten into the Poser or DAZ world. If I want to use Bryce and DAZ Studio looks interesting, do I have to have Poser as an intermediate program (if I want to put DAZ characters into Bryce scenes?). Also, are Poser figures (with materials) easy to add to a Bryce scene or is everyone out there doing lots of mask work and post work up the wazoo.

Could be worse, could be raining.

Why rely on rumors? :) From the Daz site- http://www.daz3d.com/products/studio.php *Prior to the release of DAZ|Studio 1.0, the base version will be made available as a free beta for an undetermined period of time until it is solid.* They do need to update, as the initial release for PC members was December, not November.

Honestly, I don't know what everyone's bitching about. It's easy to add people to a Bryce scene, from ANY version of Poser. Mike, quit being lazy. Free software comparable in power to Poser? Preposterous.

I've been playing around with Daz Studio, and because it is an alpha, I'll be forgiving. It is so slow. I was rendering a simple image (vic with arizona hair). I gave up after forty-five minutes and it hadn't rendered more than two percent. It's faster with no transparencies, tho. It's still really buggy, but may improve. Don't know how well it exports (for Bryce) because that feature is so far disabled.
