Great image and tbh if you are an artist then get used toi the critic whatever they say bite yer lip and just do better images This is realy getting stupid here at r..if ppl dont like what they say then they moan about the critic lol what i mean to say is first came the artist followed closley by the critic This is just how things are i dont think they are making a statement about the artist but more on the art and there are artists that take these comments to heart, yes it does hurt but at the end of the day live wiht the critic,or just shoot them all lol jkg peeps seeklight
Seeklight I think you're missing the point, I personally PREFER comments that tell me what's wrong with my work, in fact, this image was a great example because I KNEW it wasn't right, I posted it to know why I wasn't happy with it. I am a far from perfect Poser artist and have no ego about my work, I do it for me, for fun and nothing else. If someboy likes it, that's great, if somebody sees something wrong with it, great, if they TELL me about something that's wrong, that's FANTASTIC as it helps me to grow and improve. My comment is NOT referring to the critcism of my piece, but to the fact that all Poser people are perfectly beautiful and that one of the people commenting on my piece picked up on the fact that my character was not a beautifully formed piece of female perfection and seemed to infer the image was harmed because of it. Best wishes Jody
"Ugly" is a matter of personal opinion: and therefore, difficult to quantify.
Some younger males are looking for sexual appeal in their images. Sounds like the viewer just didn't get any rise out of the character. I think, by ugly, he meant "not any girl I would do".

forfend we do not live up to some viewers sexual preferences in the models we pick
That all depends upon how much you want to sell to a certain type of viewer.
That's why all of the real-life female news anchors these days are V3 clones. The network executives KNOW what sells.
Who wants to watch somebody that looks like Walter Concrite? No, we'd rather have our war reports given out by a 20-something blue-eyed blonde.
How come the black woman that was captured in Iraq has recieved virtually NO attention in the media? What was that woman's name, anyway? But the pretty Jessica Lynch -- she's all over the place. I wonder why?
And why did we hear so much about Elizabeth Smart? I guarantee you - if Elizabeth Smart had been 120 lbs., and dough-faced -- we'd have NEVER known who she was.
Same thing for the Laci Peterson case. If Laci Peterson hadn't been cute & perky - we'd all be saying: Laci who?
You can rage against it all that you like. The fact remains: Looks Make for Good Copy.
At least, this is true for women.
Life just isn't fair.
If it's practical to run around naked with a sword, then why not naked with a blaster? Or with any other weapon?
Perhaps the nudity would distract one's opponent long enough to give an edge in a gunfight?

7 response... the 1st attempt to get a rise out of anyone here got one response! Duane Moody is it has nice normal faces... who else? I am having not much luck getting help making non-supermodel women (or men... back two three years ago I had a hell of a time getting muscle definition off males and some fat on both figures). I like normalnes of Judy... just no real morph or full body morph available for the figure.Do you want to sell, or do you have some other purpose in mind? The non-supermodel characters don't sell as well. That's why the marketplace looks like it does. But: I, for one, will buy "regular" looking characters. It makes for some variety.
yeah, we should all tell him there are other sites for that kind of thing. g Women with big guns trouncing through the water usually have their clothes on... Lara Croft be damned... lol. Jody, its a nice pic and a dynamic pose, and I bet if that girl had her clothes off she'd be damn cute to some of these old guys too g But that's not the thrust of the picture... and its wrong to assert a pic is 'ugly' just because the girl might not be sexually arousing in that particular picture. It is not the picture's intent after all. It would look stupid as hell if the girl was a bombshell model bouncing around seminaked with perfect hair trouncing with a big ol gun through the water. (wait... did I just describe much of the Renderosity gallery... lol!) Even Jessica Lynch didn't look all that hot from her enlistment pictures. On the skinny side with a long geeky neck. Her face is very plain until you put some makeup on her. She's just cute to most old eyes because she's 19 years young. Supermodel or centerfold spread she's not, she's more like the woman in this render.
I've seen "varying" photos of Jessica Lynch -- you are right, she looked kind of "plain jane" in some of the pictures. But, in others, she was cute. Yeah, it's gotta be the "old eyes" thing.......
Ugly? ...... well, maybe, but how can you really tell with those thingys over her eyes? Ugly? ... Maybe, but the render is NOT! It is very well done and I especially like the lighting effect you used. cheers, dr geep ;=]

yep I agree, the render rocks. The poses are spot on, the lighting is wonderful, the effects with the water are great. The guy saying it needed a better render and the girl is ugly... I think he was just trying to cover up the fact that he's really here to look at soft porn or he was just trolling to get a response.
I'm a big fan of non-traditional beauty, and older women as sex goddesses in Poser, and women without the standard perfect bodies, etc. however, although the picture is well done in general, the face, what can be seen of it, is definitely not cute. Nose and mouth are somehow unattractive, accentuated by the inverted letter "U" frown of the mouth and thin lips. It's a kind of oversimplified cartoon frown. Get a good photo of a how a real person looks when angry or upset. Hard to tell without a close up of the character with no goggles and a neutral expression. Even a beautiful woman can be made semi-ugly with an anguished expression, and some are beautiful when angry as the old cliche goes. Hey, I'm very open-minded about beauty. Most of my girlfriends were not traditional beauties, I think Cathy Griffin (the comedian) is cute. Also Mary Steenbergen (actress).
I haven't looked at the render yet, but what's wrong with ugly...everybody looks ugly sometime or another...it's just a fact of life...I'd say if she's less than drop dead goprgeous then she probably looks "real"... although I'll bet the person mean it as an insult and probably is an imature male "looking for a rise" as someone already said..
She looks normal to me.....average. If that's ugly for some, then I guess their universe of real people is different from mine. Maybe they don't know any real people! Anyway, I think it's a good render.....and the girl is not ugly. But I'm from Minnesota, where everyone is plain and average looking :)
"I like the scene, but the girl's really ugly. I think a better render would make it better. excellent, though." Am I the only one who thinks maybe he/she means that the way the girl rendered looks ugly compared to the rest of the scene, not that she is physically ugly? If it were the latter, a better render wouldn't maker her any cuter. Just a thought.

I think this thread is being a bit harsh on the comment... he did mentiont hat the image was "excellent" and did not dismiss the work because of the woman. Basically, he made a comment - and obviously one that many people here will judge his whole life by even though the comment was on the whole complementary. I just want to understand this ... if he doesn't think that girl is attractive he is some lifeless loser who obviously just surfs r'osity looking for images to "get off on"? But then I am one of those rare who who doesn't happen to think a preference for attractive people is a fatal personality flaw so what do I know; I must be shallow :) What I find REALLY amusing is people attacking the commenter who haven't looked at the render or read the comment. A better render is certainly possible ... there are good suggestiosn there about changing the lighting in a way that would really help with the scene. So after 2-3 comments discussing ways to do a better render this guy says "a better render would make it better" and obviously he is looking for porn. Kind of stunning, and we wonder why no one gives much feedback that isn't a rear end kissing love fest.
The girl's face reminds me of Susan Dey, actually. :-) My sentiment on the girl being ugly or not is that only on The Planet of Highly Unrealistic Supermodels would this woman qualify as "ugly". Maybe she's on the ordinary side, but that's about it. bonni

It's a double-edge sword I come across quite often when doing artwork. There's this strive for realism, yet in reality...even the most beautiful among us are flawed somewhere. So do we add to the realism by making our models imperfect? But then in doing so, can we live with what looks like an imperfect piece of artwork? Because inevitably, the viewer will be drawn to the imperfection and assume it's the fault of the artist and his/her inability to create a perfect person, rather than assume the imperfection was intentional. That's been my experience anyway. Happened a lot in the days I used to draw portraits for people. I'd draw them exactly as they were, and they'd have a fit that the nose was a little crooked (even though in reality, their stupid nose really WAS crooked.) I'm still never sure which way to go when in that situation.
Since when do the discussions on this forum ever NOT stray from the point :oP
For the record, I agree that imperfect doesn't = ugly. I was generalizing on behalf of the human population who has a tendency to react otherwise. Oh, and I have seen people with cartoony U-shaped lips/mouths in the real world. Hell, I've seen facial features you'd think were physiologically impossible. Poor dears :( Anyway, I'll wait for a better discussion of the topic to come along rather than go on. TTFN :)
Who was the actress with crossed eyes - Karen Black? Was anyone surprised when the girl picked the hunk on "Average Joe." When Bugs Bunng dressed up like a girl didyou find him attractive? Can someone do a really good render of Madonna kissing Britney? Identify the quote, "Is there in truth no beauty?"

Curious, I came back from Christmas to find a very odd comment in one of my gallery images. There was a lot of critical comments to this image, which was great because I post to get that sort of criticism rather than just 'oooohs' and 'aaaaahs' so I was very please. But one comment was that the character was 'ugly'. While I didn't go out to make somebody who was repulsive, I did try to make her look less, well, Poser perfect. So I've got to ask, what do people have against ugly poser people? Anyway, just an observation. Link to the picture below if interested.
