Subject: Farewell

Charlie_Tuna ( ) posted Wed, 31 December 2003 at 11:30 PM

Being 'asked to resign' is a different way of saying 'quit or get fired' it adds up to exactly the same thing, 'your presence is no longer wanted and your absence is greatly desired'

Why shouldn't speech be free? Very little of it is worth anything.

freyfaxi ( ) posted Wed, 31 December 2003 at 11:36 PM

Guess I'll be looking into Rendervisions a bit more often now...sorry to see you go, Lyrra

randym77 ( ) posted Wed, 31 December 2003 at 11:44 PM

What Storm said. A lot worse than Hellmark's message have been posted here in the past. I didn't realize being critical of this site was now against the TOS. That is definitely something new. Sheesh.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Wed, 31 December 2003 at 11:45 PM

Lyrra, I'm really going to miss you. Whether we've agreed or disagreed, you've always been fair... and that's saying a lot with all these competing interests. Evil overlords usually go on to conquer other planets (needing a whole new wardrobe and uniforms for their minions), but there is always the prospect of another world out there. {hug} Carolly

I'm sorry to see you go too, you have always seemed fair and patient when it came to dealing with the madness here. :) I really don't have the time to check multiple forums, so I hope you'll pop in here once in a while to share your creations and let us know how you're doing. Take care. SnowS

Good bye and farewell, throw off your chains and fly free. What the hey is a PTB?? And can I get it without pickles?

well I know what a PTA is. (parents teachers association) farewells are always tough. Best of luck to you Lyrra.

lol... we all know what "PTB" is. I was making a funny ;) Not that it matters to me what the 'PTB' say or do at all... as it doesnt. I don't work for nor answer to anyone here, and anyone's "authority" on any site only goes as far as their website and no further. So while I'm here I respect the rules, but I'll say and do as I please other places, within their rules, if any. How I'm treated here affects my behavior outside the 'PTB authority' to pro and con. Behooves them to be nice to me, actually. Got enough real 'PTB' in real life, I'm not going to fret over any in cyberspace that have no real control over what I do anyway.

1st off... I NEVER said Hellmark's comment WAS a TOS violation, I just asked that ppl keep this thread on its SUBJECT, & that being Lyrra's Farewell.... NOT why or how come, or whatever.... I simply ask that threads in THIS Forum, stay on track, NOT wander off to other topics. Thanks, Thomas Poser Coordinator

Spiritbro77 ( ) posted Thu, 01 January 2004 at 1:30 AM

Well if you had said "guys could we please keep this on topic" That would be one thing. You stated that you were getting ready to hand out warnings, implying that if members didnt say what YOU wanted, they would be warned. Quite a different thing isnt it?

Lyrra was a "she"?? I had no idea, and actually I had no idea about the existence of rendervisions (after finding renderosity and renderotica, I think i was done with 'render' stuff)... I join the cry out for Lyrra's departure... I think her work was fair and exemplary... I'll follow her to rendervisions, and I'll taje the opportunity to take a look at how things are over there... see ya there!

Hellmark ( ) posted Thu, 01 January 2004 at 2:44 AM

Smitty, you know me, and you should know thats not bashing. When I bash, there is blood and body parts, not merely stepping on the toes of people (Hey, I wear size 15s, I step on alot of toes). Also, I personally feel that reasons for her being fired are on topic, since this is about her not being a mod anymore, and thats why I said what I did. That is all, Spike, I find your post rather ironic. Not that you didn't like her or anything like that, just a r'osity high power responsible for this saying she was good and will be missed. That is all.

Smitthms ( ) posted Thu, 01 January 2004 at 3:13 AM

Well Hell, I think your comments were off topic ( & slightly to the bashing side ). IMHO, why, what, & how Lyrra not being here is irrelevent to her farewell post. On that note... lets stick to farewells & things, nothing else, please. Thomas Poser Coordinator

Jus wanted to say that I'm sorry to see you go Lyrra, and I'm off to do battle with registration at Rendervisions to see if I can finally get in there again (it thinks I'm already a member, but I have no idea under what email addie!). Wonder if this'll push Rendervisions higher in the R'osity webring? (cough, cough). See you there!

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Thu, 01 January 2004 at 3:26 AM

At least you can see Rendervisions, Darkginger. All I get is a banner ad and a blank blue screen. sigh Kate (who refuses to use IE just to look at a website)

Hellmark ( ) posted Thu, 01 January 2004 at 3:32 AM

Kate, I use Mozilla Firebird, and I see it with no problems. I've also ran it through Mozilla Seamonkey, and I believe Opera has no problems with it. About the only problems I've found is with the default Mac browser Get a hold of me and I'll try to help ya out, since I am the resident anti MS person there.

elizabyte ( ) posted Thu, 01 January 2004 at 3:39 AM

Kate, I visit Rendervisions all the time, and I use Netscape. Mind you, it's an up-to-date version of Netscape, but the site does work fine. I went to the site with Netscape 4.x (I think it's 4.7; I only keep it on my hard drive for testing purposes) and I see what you mean about the blank page. I didn't go through the code with a fine tooth comb, but there's a bug in NS4.x that prevents a page from displaying if there's an unclosed table tag somewhere. Perhaps that's the problem... I'll drop a note to Lady Cherry and she can look it over and see. Still, and I really do NOT want to be rude here, but when you use a browser from 1998 or so, you do kind of have to figure that a lot of stuff just won't work in it. That's no excuse for bad coding, but stuff like CSS, some forms of JavaScript, iFrames, etc. just plain won't work, because they hadn't been developed yet. That's just the way of technology. bonni

I worked for somebody who fired someone because when he yelled "Shut up!" at her in front of a customer, she said he couldn't talk to her like that. (She had earned her own personal, public "Shut up" by objecting to his telling the customer another employee was "a {futting} genius who doesn't know {ship}."--my censoring, BTW) He explained to her that he was the owner of the store and could do whatever he liked. And fired her. (Then a few hours later he permitted her to apologize and hired her back, because he is a saint, after all.) He was right, of course. We all can do whatever we like. R'osity can replace good mods with people of consequence who announce their presence with tasteful signatures like "Still a mod, and ready to kick butt." They can tell us--merely guests, after all--what to say, what to see, and what to buy, and ban us for undisclosed offenses. And the consequence of doing whatever you like, is that others will do whatever they like. What I like, is to drift over to Rendervisions. My visits to R'osity are shorter and shorter, and less and less frequent. And I never, ever, buy in the RMP any more. Oh, the customer never came back. M PS: This post became "on topic" when Thomas stepped in.

lol mick, sounds like one of my mothers former employers, who fired her in a rage one day when she refused to do as he wanted. (because what he wanted was illegal) After he fired her, he tried to lie to the unemployment office declaring she quit... so she turned him in for tax evasion to the IRS, and made a cool 1000+ dollars on the deal after the IRS took him to court and won. (you get ten percent of whatever the IRS collects, if you turn someone in for tax evasion.) Moral? there's always a bigger fish than you are, out there somewhere.

ChuckEvans ( ) posted Thu, 01 January 2004 at 9:40 AM

Well, smitthms, let me take the opportunity to give my viewpoint on a few things. (1) Humans, being what they are, get emotional. If graphed, it is a spike that surges high and slowly returns to a flat line. (my way of saying the emotion of Lyrra being dismissed will die away...even she knows that) (2) To have allowed the thread to get posted and not locked in the beginning was "implied" consent to allow people to post more than a "sorry to see you go, good luck" message. Anyone with a brain could have foreseen a bit of straying from the sacred "subject line". IMO (not humble, mind you), all you have done is portrayed yourself as a person who is a bit more "trigger-happy" than a coordinator should be and alienated a lot of people in R'City's biggest forum. How are those "oats" feeling now? (3) R'City seems to be undergoing a lot of changes. Without much business sense (I must confess), I wonder if the recent moves indicate a desire on behalf of R'City to become more of a business and less of a community. More interested in profits than people. Of course, this is fine. People come and people go and there are always new people to join who won't know of these sorts of things. Kinda reminds me of the "mom and pop" store that became a chain and no longer knew the names of the customers...they were "faceless beings with money to spend". Personally, I like the "thanks for buying my product", "small-town", "I appreciate your business" approach that some sites and vendors project. (4) I know this is a tough forum to mod. I'd never do it. I don't have the patience, I think. Or the time. Or the knowledge. I also think losing Lyrra was losing a person with those abilities. Yes, she is spirited and opinionated. But, as I posted above, from what I saw in her (and the person I met at Dragon*Con), she dished out her "warnings" to people with a lot less of a "lead shoe" than you appear to be doing. But you remind me of a person ready to graduate from the police acadamy who can't wait to don their badge and "Rodney King" the first person daring to tiptoe over the "line". My advice would be to give these free-thinking, opinionated artists who sell and buy here a bit of leeway in their "rants". So long as they don't call people names or otherwise tresspass on the TOS. My "rant" falls into that category. I've only expressed an opinion. I've tried to be informative about it as I gave my opinion. Admittedly, I've tried to insert a bit of sarcasm. Like others, I suspect, I will mellow out. But, I can tell you now that I won't forget the demeanor you have displayed nor will I forget the way Lyrra handled controversial threads. I, of course, can be convinced to leave this community (errrr, business) by receiving a warning for this post. After all, most of the products I want to buy can now be obtained at a lesser price at other places, assistance is readily available at other places, and, if R'City's "trend" continues, I expect I can ultimately obtain ALL I need from another site. After all, I find, by my spreadsheet on spending, my purchases have been increasing on PoserPros and RDNA (good work, Mehndi and Syyd!). And, suredly, no one will miss my gallery (LOL).

Phantast ( ) posted Thu, 01 January 2004 at 10:10 AM

Whenever one sees the phrase "reasons I may not discuss" the tendency is usually to assume something rather worse than the hidden reality. Which is a good reason for not using that phrase or requiring others to do so. Anyway, all the best.

FyreSpiryt ( ) posted Thu, 01 January 2004 at 10:41 AM

Figures. Lyrra, you're going to be missed. I've always thought you handled this forum very well. "R'City seems to be undergoing a lot of changes. Without much business sense (I must confess), I wonder if the recent moves indicate a desire on behalf of R'City to become more of a business and less of a community." Gee, I hope they're smarter than that. I certainly wouldn't come here just for the store. I don't like the policies, and I can get most of what I want cheaper from venues I trust more.
