Hi, I am a brand new Poser user. I just got poser5 and I am a bit overwhelemd by it all. I have seen such beautiful work in the galleries here and I am wondering If I will ever be able to do anything like them. Do you use other programs for the backgrounds or is it all done in Poser? Can anyone point me in the right direction so I know where to start. Some easy newbie tutorials maybe ? Keep In mind I know nothing at all just yet but I learn fast. thank you sincerely skyangel.

  1. you came to the right place, welcome! 2. most people use a paint program of some sort for texture creation & post work. (I use adobe photodeluxe & photoshop) there are a few other proggie's you'll want, steve cox's uvmapper (free stuff) & morph manager (free stuff) 3. make sure you have the latest service release loaded to fix as many poser5 bugs as you can. 4. start to play, get familar with the menus, espesially applying textures. check out the free stuff here, there's a whole lot of really nice stuff to use. spend time scrolling though the forum, you can learn a lot from other people's questions look for the primer's that geep posted. 5. look up at the top of the screen, right below the ad banner, click tutorials. 6. just so you know, when people refer to posette & dork, they mean the standard poser4 characters. vicky & mike are add on characters that you buy from daz3d.com (most commonly used). since you have poser5 you have don & judy. hope you have plenty of space on your hard drive because this will fill it up given time.

And don't be put off if you find the manual to be overwhelming at first. CL's Poser 5 manual has never been well received by a lot of users. Maybe I was fortunate here, as I bought my copy of P5 at a very reasonable price from a brand new user, who had found the software to be way too complicated for her. I say this because... after all this time, I'm only now beginning to digest the detailed Chapter 4 explanation of Cartesian co-ordinates (which is absolutely fundamental to 3d applications). However, when I think deeply about what CL is attempting to teach me... I have to say "Thank you" for taking such pains to explain (though I still don't pretend to fully understand... yet) Much of the manual seems to follow this same pattern, (i.e. it eventually makes a lot more sense after you've gained in experience). I personally am grateful that the manual doesn't just tell me which buttons to press (without any explanation as to why I'm pressing them... or the problems and exceptions that I might one day encounter).
