Those of you who are keeping an eye on the Mars missions might like this place it has Quicktime movies of the lander. It's at the Mars exploration rover page. 8) Catlin

I heard tonight on the PM news that it had problems for awhile. Hope it gets back online. The photos are fantastic.

I hope all goes well. Hmm,... life on mars,... I wonder what the real estate prices are like up there?

catlin_mc ( ) posted Sat, 24 January 2004 at 5:19 AM

I think there is life on Mars and it's not the teensy weensy kind they're looking for either. Why else do you think all those probes have been going missing, or misteriously breaking down? hehehe 8) Catlin

And now there's an argument about who saw what first among the scientific community. Didn't someone on here spot a river on Mars?

I think it is time for a manned mission to Mars. Enough with the probes and robotics.... Lets check out the planet first hand. 8)

I think mars is now as dead as a graveyard. I don't see why they want to send humans either, robotics are much cheaper. Let them save the money and people for stuff that really matters. Don't get me wrong, I think all this is very interesting, but I don't think it's worth the money to send people.

I think you are completely wrong Rayraz I think Mars has life and that is why we send so many probes there. I also think that is why some of them mysteriously go dark; it would freak the average person out to know that there is life there. The scientists want to study this and know fully what they are dealing with so they dont look like buffoons when they announce it! Once they have a good grasp on what it is how it lives and other such things then they might let us know, after some Brookings report saying the world is ready. I know this sounds really fringe conspiracy type stuff but think about it for a minute. There are 1 billion Muslims and about 1 billion Christians both of which (and no offense) believe the earth to still be the center of the universe and that their creator made earth unique! Maybe at a individual level or certain societies this would not have that big of an impact but on a global scale this will be the biggest news in the history of our planet. Why you might ask, well it changes everything we believe in that life is only found here we would have to even rethink our origins and our place in the universe. That is why we are spending so much on a silly little brown planet named Mars.

Vile ... I agree completely with you. I rememember years ago when the U.S. first began sending people into space, we would stand outside at night and look at the sky. Why ? Well, starting several days before any space shot, you would see these strange looking lights up in space, zipping back and forth, making sudden 90 degree turns, disappearing and reappearing. After the launch, these 'visiting lights' would be gone. Sad as it is, I have some very devout Christian friends that faithfully believe that UFO and aliens and even space, are the work of Satan. I hope I live long enough to be able to hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth that will come from the religions when science announces that somebodys God did actually create life somewhere else in this univers. By the way, go to the the link that catlin posted and download some of the animations. The rover animation of the launch-to-Mars-landing cycle is very cool. Also plenty of inspiring still photos. The site is well worth the visit. BabaLouie

I also find it hard to believe, with life being as tenacious as it is here on earth, that it doesn't exist elsewhere. The chances of us being alone even in our galaxy are astronomical. Life in one form or another exists virtually everywhere on this planet. And I too have a suspicion about all those mars probes going mysteriously silent.

Ang25 .... Yep, statistically, scientifically and logically it is impossible for life to not exist elsewhere in the space surrounding us. The cosmos is a huge place and quite frankly, I do not know the mind of God well enough to be able to say with any authority, that we are the only life that God created. For those interested, this link is on the BBC web site. It has some fantastic color images of Mars, taken from above by the European Mars Express. Should someone have a link for the the folks running the EME please post it, I would really like to visit their site. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/3423301.stm Thanks, BabaLouie

Here you go Babalouie. The high resolution images from the Mars Express should be quite spectacular. Who knows what it might reveal? Well, I suppose it has already found frozen water on the Mars surface which is a definate biggy for life to exist there. 8) Catlin

Catlin .... Many many thanks for the link to ESA, I really appreciate it. :) BabaLouie
