Thanks for the input. willf - perhaps the demo of c3? If not, thats ok. Gabriel - Its looks like the dual might be the way to go. I can assume it can only render faster on a (2) 1.25. I did the scene on my 933 iBook and got 8:25 as my render time. Anyone else with macs and c3, id love to hear your results with any configuration using the default render settings of "milk" Regards to all E.
G4 733, gig ram.... 8:02 not bad for this old(I can't believe it's old already) machine If you want a G5 wait a few more weeks... I've been hearing some hubub about a prob with cases or some such thing and they recalled a bunch.. so they'll be selling refi's soon? Don't ask where i heard it cause I truely don't remember but ... it may be worth a month or two wait. Also, Don't be sacred of refi's... they fix things that way.. and you get it cheap.. also Apple give like new warr. on them.. I'd say 80% of all my apple hardware are refis and I have NEVER had a prob with any of them.. (and I have had troubles with new systems from apple more than once) food for thought

Dual 1.25 G4, 2GB RAM, OSX it rendered in 2:25. Not bad considering the G4 (and G4 RAM) are dirt cheap compared to the G5's. I just got this machine a few months ago, saved myself a boatload of coin over going with the hi-end G5 with same amount of RAM. I ordered it with the GForce 4 Titanium graphics card, and it absolutely screams in interactive render. Hi-poly models like the DAZ mil dragon or V3 don't even phase it.
Drumguy... If you don't mind me asking.. where did you get it? I have been looking at upgrading my 733 (specialy after looking here.. geez the time I waste) everywhere I look there is only like $200-$300 differance between the dual 1.25's G4's and the 1.6 G5's I believe the G4 dual is a bit faster in most cases... but only slightly.. and you get SOO much more with the G5... 2x the harddrive.. MUCH faster bus speeds (which is great for future upgrading of prosessor), MUCH faster memory, 8x video slot(the G4 is only 4X's correct?) better video card.. etc. everytime I total all the add ons i''d want to the G4 I seem to be higher than the G5 Am I missing something here?.. god I'd love to upgrade my computer but i just can't afford it at $2000... ECK!! thanks Thomas

Hey thomllama, look on the Apple store, and down at the bottom left there's a link for "special deals". There are a couple of refurbished Power Mac G5s floating around. I almost got one, but i went with a dual 1ghz powermac g4 with 1gig ram, superdrive, the gforce 4 titanium and an 80 gig drive on ebay for 1400 on ebay. i know the dual 1.25 g4 is only a couple of hundred more, but the superdrive, and the gig of ram is what attracted me.
The reason i went with this was based on GabrielKs results. Its faster than my Athalon, and that's what i was looking for. When the dust settles, and any kinks get ironed out, Ill probably snag a g5 later on this year.
OK just so you all know... after seeing the results of the times here I had to go out and get a dual 1.8 G5.. now I can SMOKE you all !!!!! Ehhhhhhheeeheeeeeh (evil laugh there) mumbling... though I have to wait a month cause a few of the items i added are back ordered... egrumble.. mumble,.. errrrrrrr

OK.. now I'm not getting the reberb... looked around.. found it's cheaper at Maczone or ClubMac and get the free shipping, Gig of ram, (ok not free cause they charge you to install.. and no you can't install yourself.. they don't allow it, I'm guessing that's where they are making the money? LOL) and NO TAXES!!!! which makes up the diff right there anyway.. i should have it in a week or so. WATCH OUT... SCREAMING BY>>>>>

Hello,
I have a request from Mac users. i need a slight benchmarktest. Im thinking of picking up one of the Powermac G4s off the apple site. If someone running C3 on a mac g4 could do a simple render and post the results, it would be greatly appreciated. I would need to know if your running a single 1.25 or a dual 1.25, along with the amount of ram. I know this is no way to accurately show results, but it would be nice to see the outcome to help me in my decision.
Right now i can render the scene wizard, Packaging, Milk document in 3m 49s with an AMD Athalon XP 1800, 512 RAM.
This is not a calling for a debate and bashing between PC and MAC users, that will do no good for me as I am a user of both and enjoy both worlds very much. My mac is an iBook G4 933 256, and my Powerbook is a G4 500 512, and they are unable to out render my athalon. I would like to get a mac that is faster at rendering than what i have available right now, and a G5 is not viable for me in my current economic state. Perhaps next year.
Thank you for your time,
Regards,
E.
