Subject: advice on installing poser 5?

maclean ( ) posted Sat, 31 January 2004 at 11:56 AM ยท edited Sat, 16 November 2024 at 5:18 PM

hey, I finally upgraded my computer and am about to install the poser 5 I pre-ordered and never used (lol). OK, I got SR-3 from CL, but haven't d/ld the figures updater. I got one a while back when I d/ld sr-2 called 'Poser5Figures.exe'. Has it changed with SR-3? And do I need it anyway? I have no intention of using Don or Judy, that's for sure. And I can live without a 38 meg d/l on dial-up. Next, should I install P5 on a different HDD or partition? I have poser 4 on my 1st HDD in it's own partition. Is it better to put P5 on the same HDD in another partition, or on a different HDD altogether. TIA mac

Thanks geep, I relented and decided to download the figures installer. S'only 2 1/2 hours. Ha! Oh well.... Still haven't decided where to install yet. mac

This is a statement I made earlier on after the release of SR3: There are some content files which can be found both in the SR1 Figures Updater (respectively in the SR1 Full Updater) and in the SR3 Application Updater (they're needed for the Walk Designer fixes). Therefore, applying the SR1 Figures Updater after SR3 could result in unexpected behavior. This was the reason to provide a new Figures Updater as well, which allows to install the SR3s in arbitrary order. So you can either do that, or, if the download is too large for you, just use the SR1 Full or Figures updater before applying SR3.

just a reminder that now is the ideal time (fresh install) to figure out some multiple runtime system. I guess you could install your poser 4 runtime as one of your multiple poser 5 runtimes (if you are having poser 4 and 5 together) but saving a cr2 from poser 5 into the poser 4 runtime may cause problems in poser 4 if you try and load it. Mac, you need the SR3 to get rid of the copy protection thing that came with P5. If you do not install it P5 will quit working after 7 days and you would have to register it with this challenge code. 1. Install P5 - don't reboot 2. Install Figure updater - still don't reboot 3. Install SR3 and reboot and be happy.

OK. Thanks all for the tips. I also have some threads I saved about multiple runtimes (plus a ton of other stuff) which I need to check. Now I have both updaters, I can do the full monty. Once I figure out my runtimes, that is. I don't plan on using P5 that much. I just need it to check all my products work correctly in it, as I build them. Maybe I'll make a limited runtime for products only. mac
