Subject: Everything but Poser in the Poser forum

dialyn ( ) posted Wed, 21 January 2004 at 6:24 PM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 10:41 AM

Am I just being cranky, or does it seem like there are more and more very long threads that have nothing to do with Poser being left in the Poser forum? I guess I don't see the point of having different forums if the Poser forum is being used for the catch all messages. And I don't mind the occassional birthday greeting, or sharing of the heart felt sentiment. I'm warm and fuzzy as anyone (just ask my puppy Bella). But who is Mike Rowe and why do I care what stand he took against Microsoft (apologies to Sharen, who I think the world of, but why is Mike Rowe in the Poser forum)? And 75 messages on alternative expletives because it is more fun to post in the Poser forum (guess it finally got to some Poser graphics at the end but it took awhile to get there)? Does the nastygram not belong in the Community Center for all to discuss and not just Poser folk? I know ... I need to lighten up. And I do appreciate the warmer, kinder forum (though I admit I miss illusions since he left). But couldn't we monitor the forums just a little bit for the extraneous off topic conversation that goes on too long? Maybe???

That is a very good point. All member should be posting all off topic issues in the OT forum. We will move them as needed.

You can't call it work if you love it... Zen Tambour

I guess it is because most of the poser people like to post to each other. instead of taking a chance that someone MIGHT see it in another forum we all know that certain people are in certain forums. so.....that is where it gets posted.

Speaking from someone who once posted a private thread in the bryce forum, to "friends and bryce family" and had that thread moved...sometimes it is not a good thing... I was in the middle of a very personal crisis, with no where else to find more info, and trust me, i looked everywhere before turning to a public forum to post. It was marked private and OT and asked that only females in the "family" respond...It was a very private matter, in a very desperate time... This thread was moved without my knowledge to the OT forum, and when i did a search to find it, I was devastated to find it had been moved, and suddenly for those i didnt know to read and judge. Thanks to the quick actions of Jeff and Spike, the entire thread was deleted at my request, after several posters in the Bryce family agreed to go in and delete their own posts to that thread, many of which also contained personal information... I do understand the policy of OT threads being placed in the OT forum, and i commend the mods and admins for doing a job well done. But, I have learned, no matter how much help i need, I will not post any such personal info here anymore. I chose that as a medium, rather then leave a community of close friends who we like to call family, which was my only through when i found that my extremely personal issue was now wide open in another forum. My suggestion would be, before a thread is moved, send an IM to the thread starter with a simple message "This Off-topic thread is about to be moved, would you like it deleted instead?" I know i'm not a top-seller, or artist of the month, and my loss here, really isn't that big of a deal...but along the way here, along the path to not only bettering our art, but ourselves as well, we do sometimes make friends, cyber or not. And it was those friends that encouraged me to stay, despite the fact that i was never more embarrased, nor shocked in an online site ever. Perhaps threads wander off-topic a bit from time to time, sometimes more then others, sometimes less...But to me, it's the mix of talent, with all those personal notes mixed in that give is the great respect we have for each other, not only as artists, but as people as well. Now that i've officially broken one of my new years resolutions, I'll zip my trap again. I hope you find peace in happiness in your work, and in your forums... Jen

Eh...CHEERS this aint LOL (ok...I dont even know what I mean by that....its been a long day) "Where Everbody Knows Your Name" Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got. Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot. Wouldn't you like to get away? Sometimes you want to go, where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came. You wanna be where you can see, our troubles are all the same You wanna be where everybody knows your name. You wanna go where people know, people are all the same, You wanna go where everybody knows your name. You want to go where people know, people are all the same; You want to go where everybody knows your name.

I haven't looked at poser forums for several weeks with at least 980 messages unread since I last read poser forum messages. And also, about several weeks worth of e-bots of favorite artist gallery image uploads.

I don't suppose there is any agreement on what does or does not belong in the Poser forum. It's my choice to go there, of course. Some people's posting I don't bother to read, even if they are posting in a thread I started, because I can predict so well what they are going to say and it doesn't interest me. And other people I do feel the emotion of the posting. But I don't need the intimate details of every person's life here....as indifferent and cold as it may make me sound, there is such a thing as too much information. If I am looking for help on Poser, is this a thread I would want to read (see link)? It's full of pain, and I have sympathy, but it really doesn't belong in the Poser forum unless the rule is made that anything goes there and we are going to blend the OT Forum with the Poser one. I've been lurking in some of the other forums, and I don't see as much of this in many of the other forums (not all...I haven't looked at them all and I'm not going to). And while I am guilty of throwing threads off into odd detours, I am, for myself, trying to be better about staying on track and have been posting less (much to the relief of some people) the past couple of weeks. At the end of the game, I guess I can only be responsible for myself and leave the rest of the decisions to someone else. I leave the field of discussion. Be well, everyone. This thread is over for me.

sigh As someone who's been in this girls place I can assure anyone that it does indeed help to talk about it. Where on this site is a good place? If I have something personal to post or a serious question to ask I would not go to the ot forum here. It's nothing but political crap and a game of one-upmanship.

So what is it? Give us your money but don't tell us about your personal life/pets/kids/etc? Jeez, how difficult is it to skip over a post that's labeled "OT"!

As the original poster of the "clean expletives" thread, let me put forth a few thoughts on this. Everyone who hangs out on a message board knows the feeling of putting up a post and getting no response whatsoever... it stinks. A natural response is to post where there's a lot of traffic... get the most eyes on it, so to speak. Also, being a project being done in Poser, it was relatively on topic, unlike other threads in Poser about people's personal lives. The unannounced moving of threads can also create some problems, such as with my thread. It was moved shortly after I posted a panel using mock-ups of examples, and when I stopped seeing activity in the Poser forum on that thread right after, I assumed no one cared enough to comment on the work, which hurt my feelings a bit. It was a quickie, slap-up job as far as the artistry, but I thought someone would at least comment on my choice of phrase. It was only a day or two later when I checked in on the Writer's forum that I not only found my thread, but I found another thread started by another community member that singled out my thread and made some negative comments about my final choice of phrase, which I found condescending, patronizing, and rather inappropriate. All this is my longwinded way of saying that I think a private message to the original poster is a good idea... if a thread absolutely must be moved. There's so much activity in the Poser forum, and most threads die out after a day or two anyway, that to me moving the threads out of it is pointless anyway. And I agree with Kendra... it's not that hard to skip over a thread you don't have any interest in.

I am curiouse... dailyn ...didnt you post a OT thread in poser forum yourself? one about the whole deal with the boycott? If I remember correctly your spoof of the topic was posted in the poser forum. it was about a spoof boycott. now the thread you are talking about was a pain filled post from someone that was shareing her feelings to those she counted as friends and family. what exactly is wrong with that? yes there are things that happen that arent "poser" related but come one..sometimes you can understand when someone is wishing to share with what they call "family" is it really hard to look over that? I can understand if it was NOTHING BUT OT posts..but the once in awhile ...come on..what is wrong with it?

dialyn, Why is this issue so important to you? I don't get it. There is only one new page a day. What does it matter? I just don't understand why skipping a topic line that doesn't interest someone is such a chore.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for her to answer why it's such a huge issue for her. I am beginning to think that the PTB just have their very own pet Troll.

I haven't been here as long as some of you, but in the time I have, I have seen enough occasions of starting threads purposely baiting folks (not to mention the number of OT posts Herself has made) or baiting in other threads only to get people worked up and then have her post "well I'm outta here". Of course, by then the thread has taken on a new life.

DarkElegance ( ) posted Mon, 02 February 2004 at 3:05 PM

it is just that the post she used particulary as an example..it is like taking someone you just saw get hit by a car...and go and kick the snot out of them same effect. it was just plain mean spirited. yes I can understand if we start posting NOTHING BUT OT over there...baseball stats....football..the mars rover....but that particular post...it is just bad form for it to be used like it was...like rubbing salk into a wound. and to be honest..I didnt expect a reply. I just find it convienent that dailyns post was a good show ...great fun...wonderful laughs...that had NOTHING to do with poser...THAT was ok. but something SHE didnt like and it is omg the horror it must be stoped. grrrrrrrrrrr

remember- the poser forum circles around dailyn and her life- after reading gawd knows how many posts from her about her pets dying ( maybe she shouldn't own pets) or how her dreams have been smashed and similar off topic meandering manic depressive posts, now she's protesting the off topic topics others are posting? That one in my opinion needs to see a professional counsler. Her pathetic attempts at cheerleading rosity rah rah is transparent, and sad. Just reading them i was cringing. Seriously dailyn go get councling if you can't take what the world dishes out. You sit there and say how everyone should play nice yet you are the one who consistantly snipes other members. If your dreams have been smashed- it's because you couldn't make the cut, not because of anything else anyone did or said. If something bothers you- perhaps you should take a really good look at yourself and ask yourself why it bothers you. Or is that a soul search you are not capable of making? if not and I'm inclined to think that is the case, then do get outside help- if the stuff that goes on in this board ( rather mild and tame compared to most boards) is too much for you- then don't read them and don't come here- it's that easy. And don't go to the adobe forums- there's some master flamers there- it's sheer poetry as they bash Adobe- and those threaadts do not get locked. In fact, some have become stickies in the photoshop lounge. For you to think and expect a forum to revolve around you is egocentric, shallow and unrealistic. But HEY! You're Dailyn! and that should be good enough for law- oh wait- it has become dailyn's law of ass kissing- you lick the admin's balls they jump to to your tune- that's sooo pathetic!" I'm glad i have a real life and don't actually give a rat's ass if asomeone posts off topic. If someone is hurting and this is where their freinds are- let em post! it's part of what's called "COMMUNITY!" wait this is no longer a community! bleh!
