Poser Python Scripting F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Sep 18 2:50 am)

We now have a ProPack Section in the Poser FreeStuff.
Check out the new Poser Python Wish List thread. If you have an idea for a script, jot it down and maybe someone can write it. If you're looking to write a script, check out this thread for useful suggestions.

Also, check out the official Python site for interpreters, sample code, applications, cool links and debuggers. This is THE central site for Python.

You can now attach text files to your posts to pass around scripts. Just attach the script as a txt file like you would a jpg or gif. Since the forum will use a random name for the file in the link, you should give instructions on what the file name should be and where to install it. Its a good idea to usually put that info right in the script file as well.

Now I am using this one, and I can't seem to figure out how to get the figure selected. Am I just being an idiot?

Ah. Simple problem, actually. The new version of the walking script assumes the walking figures have actors with internal names lFoot and rFoot. If no such body part can be found, the script assumes it's not a walking figure. Search for 'ActorByInternalName("lFoot")' and 'ActorByInternalName("rFoot")', replace the 'lFoot' and 'rFoot' with the internal names of the feet of your figure, and you're all set. Be sure to replace the lToe and rToe actor names too, they're also used in the V2 version.

Thanks. Your scripts are great. Thanks for the help.

Another tip: create props called rFoot and lFoot, move them to the balls of the feet of the character and parent them to the feet. Simple boxes or spheres work best. Then you can use the original script without modification on every possible figure!

OK. I think I am going to rename the names on the actual model. Will let you know how it turns out. Don't forget to think about the four footed script. I have a work around for four footed animals, but it is cumbersome. I make props like you said and parent them to left front and right back, and get semi-decent results on the old script.
