THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Feb challenge WIP

This is what I ve got so far. All Bryce with about a dozen terrains and all bryce trees. Some of the textures are photos. Figure on adding more trees, maybe a small distant forest, but I still feel its lacking something. I think I need to cut down on the variety of foliage in the foreground, too. Now, I know postwork is meant to be kept to a minimum but how do we feel about the waterfall? Its simply a downstroke with a push brush, although if nobody objects to it Ill probably take a little more time over it later. Id really like to put in the Daz eagle or buck, but may have to make a seperate version for that. How is it so far?

Nice work, I'd expect to see more trees peaking above the dropping hills in the middle, at the moment the three trees look a bit lonely :-)

I'd say absolutely amazing! :)

looking good. Definately needs some more trees in the background. Foreground foliage is great.

Mmmmmm..... could be just my monitor, but I think the colors are a bit...... harsh. Greyish. Gloomy. I dunno. That's just the feeling I get. Maybe you could brighten things up a bit. Other than that, excellent start and I can't wait to see the end result!

Looks great. Excellent work on the sky, and that rock mat, well, rocks.

The rock textures a re cool.River is done well with waterfall.Sky is not realistic for how well your terrains are.It would be a good fantasy sky.

I like just they way it is,very lonely landscape, even though the sky is a bit weird, love the limited pallette...

Made a few changes, which may not stay. Most obvious change is the sky. I`ve lost that soft "Scottish" look but it does seem more dramatic. Added some more background terrains and some pines on the hillside. Also added some sheep, or white rocks, whichever way you look at it. Still lots more to do.

I liked where your waterfall was positioned in the first version better ... it was easier to see the source of the falls. In the second version the falls just seem to spring right out of the hillside. The center background mountain has a weird texture thing happening .... did you do a plop render or something?? Hard to tell if the sheep/rocks are the proper size as compared to the trees in the midground, and honesly, I don't think they add anything to the image. They're very dark in comparison to the surrounding landscape. Your foreground rock and lichens are perfect. Love them. And I like the second sky better ... it's more dramatic.

Could be worse, could be raining.

I agree with Rickymaveety in that the waterfall was placed better in the first image. The texture on the valley floor in your second one I like a lot better as well. Not too fond of the added pines. They seem kind of coarse. Really liked that hill on the right side in your first image better. The tall pines in your first image I thought looked to be right as well.. The sky in the second one definitely is a major improvement. A couple of those rocks embedded on the hillside might be a better place for them. The rock immediately in front of the camera is perfect. The growth on it is great and the texture is really nice. Just one mans opinion though. Looking good Sambucus. smiley.gif Wade

I agree on the position of the waterfall, it was much better in the first image, don't like the new pines or the new mtn, seems off balance, but that's just my opinion...:)

Looking great. I definitely love the lighting in the second one better. As for your waterfall, at that distance you could use a volume texture fairly easily... I'd try some volume clouds with some rocks. I love the river... it's very realistic. However, to me, it's fighting the rest of your composition. Maybe have the bend the other way?

Sambucus ( ) posted Fri, 13 February 2004 at 4:33 AM

Thanks for all the feedback. Plop render, yep. the rest isnt AA. The pines have to go. Plenty else to think about. If I enter this in the challenge Id better put eceryones name on it. LOL

Well ...now I see two together.,and I rekind on my first statement.Studying the first one,I think it is my choice.I do like the sky now.It seems to give the picture a real ambience.
