Fractals F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 13 3:03 pm)
Hi there
Any software capable of resizing images, should work. Just resize anywhere between 50 x 50 and 200 x 200 pixels and save with a different filename. Then, when you upload, you browse to that image just like you did with the full-sized one, where it indicates 'Upload Thumb' on the upload screen.
Hope that helps

MSN groups are nice but they handle images dreadfully! The look so much better here. There are 2 ways to handle making thumbnails. You can resize in your generator after you save your main image or you can resize in a secondary program like PSP or Photoshop (or even Paint). If you have a secondary program (I have heard Irfanview is great and it's free), you should be saving your main image at twice the size you want to display it, then resizing it down. That will remove most of the 'jaggies' you see on curves and diagonal lines. After saving that image, you can then resize down to the required thumbnail size that Nick mentioned above^. I have a separate folder for Renderosity where I file my images to post here. I name the main one 'image.jpg' and the thumbnail 'imageth.jpg' so they are always right next to each other and easy to find. When I upload the images, I then put it in a 'posted file' where I accumulate them until I have enough to save on a CD. I hope that was helpful.
Fractals will always amaze me!
Open up your fractal in PSP.In Image dropdown choose Resize.Tick the Pixel sixe box and put in the numbers you want for size (ie: width:190 x height:150) then click OK. Click on File dropdown, choose Save as: Browse to your pictures file and enter the image name in File name box( If my picture is called Heart I just add thumb to the end:Heart.jpg becomes Heartthumb.jpg) Click on Options and compress the picture by...say 10 then hit save.
The only thing I would add to the excellent advice you've already received is to make sure the final file size of the thumbnail is under 15K. Whatever program you use to resize should be capable of reducing the jpeg quality, which is equivalent to increasing the compression. Different programs list it different ways. I've found that it's better to reduce the file size by reducing the jpeg quality than to reduce the image size. I almost always make my thumbnails 200 X 200, then reduce the quality enough to get the file size down to 15K.

Alright, no one snicker, but I have no clue how to get a thumbnail to post in the gallery. Actually, I have no idea how to create a thumbnail. My old graphics program (bundled software that came with this old computer) doesn't have a file for them. I just got PSP 8.10 and while it does have a file, I can't seem to access it. Any and all help would be appreciated. I am a refugee from MSN Groups, and in that forum all you needed to do was upload pics into an album and you could post them anywhere. This is all new to me.
