Hi Sorry to ask this but I have been trying to wade through the market place and freestuf on various sites and am getting boggled. Well I think I'm getting to be a prude I have this fantasy outfit which I quite like with a topless bodice but well I think V3 needs something to hang off her hips some sort of skirt. I was thinking something a bit like a roman or gladiator style multipiece thingy (you know the sort of thing leather and looks like a picket fence!) I may be able to get away with a normal short skirt with transmaps any suggestions? Thanks Dave

Hoot! I just ***love*** that gladiator skirt with vibram-soled army boots and skater knee pads. :snort: Reminds me of the time my parents dragged us kids to a rollerderby "sporting" event (nothing sporting, it was all pre-choreographed and phony). If she is an adventuring warrior, I'm an immortal elf princess. (Besides vulnerability to hamstringing, every last major artery is exposed. Give me a pole arm!) Pity. The parts look well-made and detailed and textured... but, together? Maybe somebody thinks Vulcan was the god of rubber and plastic, so of course they had lug-soled shoes in Roman times. Anyway, various people have tried to do roman styled armor. Search for legionnary, centurian, Roman. I think someone made characters for Xena and her sidekick, so you might look for them, too. There were female gladiators in Roman times (was it Smithsonian who did the article on them a couple years back?), but you didn't get rich and well-known if a 10-year-old with a slingshot could take you out. Carolly, tsk tsk... You expect realism in fantasy armor? Shame! Actually, the clothing was designed in the style of clothing worn by Xena in the T.V. series, and no one can call that real. It does look good in a NVIAT pic, and Dodger (the infamous) did a very nice job on the modeling on the set. For $1.99, it's still a bargin, even if you wouldn't ever wear it to a real set-to. You're dead on though about the usefulness of clothing like that in battle. The hair would have to go too. Never give an opponent something to grab on to in a close fight, and that pony tail is just too tempting.

Does Xena wear stompers with heavy rubber lug soles and plastic knee pads? Even in a fantasy realm, one is limited to the materials and technology at hand. One may be able to sculpt leather and metal into eerily ornate shapes even in a low-tech society because these are ancient materials and the limits were imagination. Example: can we get leather to do a hypothetical "this"? Well, if we wet it and laminate it and slowly dry it on a form, yes. However, if you have no idea what a spun polymer can do, and atoms are only a theorectical construct because the thinkers need a placeholder, plastic might as well not exist in any dimension. It isn't a matter of magic, either, because we, like any society, define and dress our gods and magicians based upon what we know. If we do not know about rubber, we can't give the Trickster a rubber chicken or Xena rubber-soled boots. I'm a bit surprised to find Dodger behind this. With the research he put into the Samurai armor, he understands why certain areas of the body need protection, even in partial suits. However, given the standards of fantasy armor for women and the need to be skimpy and decorative, it is still possible to stay within the available technologies. Carolly

Hi thanks for the input folks but well I was after something more like a roman centurian would wear. What i'm trying to do is add this on to the fantasy elf princess archer by BVH much as I like his work I like to have some sort of rational to the clothes my characters wear. Like if the weathers bad in a scene my character would wear the morphing cloak rather than the adventures cape even thothe rest of her clothes would be the same. To be honest as Carolly said fantasy armour/clothing does leave a lot to be desired in the protection stakes and I can't quite see a sane woman who is likely to get into a fight wear a bathing suitand leave her thighs exposed. Hence the need for a skirt of some description, but I want one to go with the general scheme of the armour. I can kind of rationalise the shoulder pads as being attached to the cape collar though (or I could try for some light chain or cloth). so will have to keep looking thanks guys Dave
